Rising chip costs may increase phone prices in Pak…

The rising cost of semiconductor chips in the global market could lead to another increase in mobile phone prices in Pakistan, as smartphone manufacturers continue to face higher production expenses.

Industry experts say the global technology sector is experiencing a sharp rise in the cost of key components used in smartphones. The increasing demand for advanced semiconductor chips, particularly those used in artificial intelligence (AI) data centres, has placed significant pressure on chip manufacturers and global supply chains.

In addition to AI-related demand, the prices of memory chips, silicon wafers, chip packaging materials and other electronic components have also increased. These factors have raised the overall cost of manufacturing smartphones, forcing companies to review their pricing strategies.

The impact is being felt across the international mobile industry. Manufacturers are facing higher production costs, while suppliers are adjusting prices to cope with increased manufacturing expenses. As a result, smartphone companies are expected to pass part of the additional cost on to consumers.

Pakistan’s mobile phone market is closely linked to global supply chains because most smartphones and their components are imported. Any increase in international production costs is likely to affect the prices of devices sold in the local market.

Industry analysts say consumers may have to pay more for both premium and mid-range smartphones if the trend continues. They added that the exact increase will depend on international market conditions, import costs and currency exchange rates in the coming months.

The expected rise would come at a time when consumers are already dealing with higher prices for electronic goods due to inflation and increased import expenses. A further increase in smartphone prices could reduce purchasing power and slow demand in the local market.

Four summoned over posts targeting Sharjeel Memon

KARACHI: The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has summoned four Karachi residents for questioning over alleged defamatory content posted on social media against Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon and his son. The inquiry was launched following a complaint submitted on behalf of Memon. The complaint relates to social media posts concerning the death of Karachi resident Mir Raza Ali. According to the notices issued by the agency, the respondents have been asked to appear at the NCCIA office in Karachi on August 13 at 11:30am. They have also been directed to bring their original identity cards and any documents or material they intend to use in their defence. The four individuals have also been asked to provide relevant digital devices and record their statements before the investigators. The agency warned that failure to appear could lead to further legal action. The development follows a complaint filed by Memon through his legal representatives. He had approached the cybercrime agency over what he described as false and malicious material being circulated online about him and his son. Memon has denied claims linking him to a guest house in Gulistan-i-Jauhar where Mir Raza Ali was allegedly subjected to violence. He also rejected allegations that his son travelled to London shortly after the incident and was later seen with security personnel. The senior minister said the allegations were not supported by facts or evidence. He alleged that the campaign was aimed at damaging his and his son’s reputation for political reasons. His legal counsel has requested that the agency identify those responsible and take action under applicable cybercrime laws. The complaint also seeks registration of a criminal case if sufficient evidence is found. The Mir Raza case has attracted significant public attention. Ali, who had studied at the Institute of Business Administration and owned a food business, was reported missing on July 28. His body was discovered the following day in bushes near Shahi Qila Ground in Gulistan-i-Jauhar. The investigation initially considered the possibility of suicide. However, Ali’s family consistently rejected that theory. They maintained that he had been kidnapped, assaulted and murdered. A second post-mortem examination later raised further questions about the circumstances of his death. The examination indicated that Ali had suffered a gunshot wound to the back, which challenged the earlier theory of suicide. The family’s lawyer, Jibran Nasir, called for changes to the investigation team. He also accused authorities of failing to properly pursue key aspects of the case. A new investigation team was assigned to the case on Sunday. Police also added a murder charge to the first information report.

Trump says Hormuz reopening near, warns Iran of consequences

US President Donald Trump has said the Strait of Hormuz could reopen “very soon” as diplomatic efforts with Iran continue, while warning that Tehran would face a strong military response if negotiations fail. Speaking during an interview with Fox News, Trump expressed optimism about the ongoing talks, saying discussions had made significant progress. He claimed Iranian representatives had requested negotiations at a time when the United States was preparing for a large-scale military operation. According to Trump, Washington agreed to engage in dialogue after receiving signals from Tehran that it was willing to negotiate. He stressed that the United States remains committed to preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons and said abandoning the talks would have serious consequences. The US president said negotiators spent the entire day in discussions and described the atmosphere as positive. He added that a successful agreement could help restore normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important energy routes. Trump also suggested that reopening the strategic waterway would ease pressure on global energy markets. He said lower oil prices could eventually translate into cheaper fuel costs for consumers and urged energy companies to reduce gasoline prices if market conditions improve. Speaking later to reporters in California, Trump said developments with Iran were moving in the right direction and indicated that greater clarity on the negotiations could emerge within the next 48 hours. Diplomatic efforts are reportedly being supported by regional mediators, including Oman and Qatar. Discussions are focused on restoring safe maritime navigation through the Strait of Hormuz while reducing tensions between Washington and Tehran. However, Iranian officials have maintained that progress depends on an end to US threats and continued respect for Iran’s sovereignty. The Strait of Hormuz is a vital global shipping lane through which a significant share of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas exports passes. Any disruption to traffic through the waterway has immediate consequences for international energy markets and global trade. Financial markets reacted positively to reports of progress in the negotiations. Oil prices declined while Asian stock markets advanced on expectations that a diplomatic breakthrough could reduce regional tensions and restore uninterrupted shipping. Meanwhile, reports from Israel indicated growing concern over Washington’s diplomatic approach. Some Israeli officials reportedly believe the United States is prioritising a negotiated settlement with Iran, although no official Israeli government statement has confirmed those claims.

Gull Feroza stars as Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in OD…

Gull Feroza and Sidra Amin’s half-centuries helped Pakistan beat Sri Lanka in the first ODI of the three-match series at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium on Thursday. The Green Shirts comprehensively chased down 211 in 43 overs, losing only five wickets in the process. Sadaf Shams and Gull Feroza added 58 runs for the opening wicket partnership at the end of the first powerplay, with Shams contributing 20 off 27 balls, including three fours. The highlight of Pakistan’s innings was the second-wicket stand of 90 runs off 114 balls, which made light work of the chase, taking the total to 148 in 28.5 overs. Feroza eventually departed after scoring a free-flowing 78 off 77 balls, including 11 fours. Sidra Amin continued and raised her half-century before getting castled by Inoka Ranaweera on 57, hitting five fours in her measured knock. The visitors eventually reached home in the 43rd over. For Sri Lanka, Kavisha Dilhari picked up two wickets. With their fifth ODI win in a row, Pakistan moved up to second position in the ICC Women’s Championship Points table. Earlier, Sri Lanka could not capitalise on the decision to bat first as they were limited to 210-9 in 50 overs despite a strong opening foundation. Skipper Chamari Athapaththu and Vishmi Gunaratne stitched a 56-run stand in 11 overs, with Gunaratne contributing 28 off 34 balls, hitting four boundaries. Despite the wicket, Sri Lanka carried on as Athapaththu and Hasini Perera stitched a 53-run partnership to take the total over the 100-run mark. However, once Pakistan introduced spinners, the momentum quickly shifted in their favour. The visitors removed well-set Athapaththu (46) and Perera (35) in quick succession to make a comeback. The home side could not recover after the quick wickets, losing wickets in clusters and eventually being limited to a below-par total. For Pakistan, Nashra Sandhu starred with the ball, scalping three wickets in her 10 overs. The victory gives Pakistan a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the second ODI scheduled to take place in the coming days. The team will be looking to build on this momentum and secure a series win, while Sri Lanka will aim to bounce back and level the series. Pakistan’s batting depth and bowling attack were on full display, highlighting their potential as a formidable side in the ICC Women’s Championship. The series continues to provide exciting cricketing action, with fans eagerly awaiting the next fixtures as both teams battle for supremacy in the ODI format. The win also boosts Pakistan’s position in the championship standings, keeping them in contention for a top spot as they continue their campaign. The Green Shirts will be hoping to carry this form into the remaining matches and secure a comprehensive series victory.

Hrithik Roshan and Saba Azad spark breakup rumours again

Rumours surrounding Hrithik Roshan and Saba Azad’s relationship have resurfaced after a purported screenshot from the exclusive dating app Raya went viral on social media. The screenshot allegedly showed a profile featuring Hrithik’s photograph, age and Instagram handle. The bio reportedly described the person as an “Actor/Producer/Entrepreneur” based in Mumbai. Its sudden appearance online sparked widespread discussion, with social media users questioning whether Hrithik and Saba had ended their relationship. However, there has been no independent confirmation that the profile actually belongs to Hrithik Roshan or that the account is genuine and currently active. As a result, the dating-app screenshot remains unverified, despite generating considerable attention online. Amid the speculation, Hrithik and Saba were reportedly spotted together at PVR in Juhu, Mumbai. Their public appearance appeared to contradict the breakup rumours circulating online. The two were seen leaving the cinema together and reportedly walked hand-in-hand, giving the impression that they were still comfortable and close. The couple also appeared to have coordinated their outfits for the outing, with both wearing black T-shirts. Hrithik completed his casual look with a cap as they made their way out of the theatre. Hrithik and Saba have been romantically linked since 2021. Although they initially kept their relationship relatively private, the pair eventually began making joint public appearances. They officially drew wider attention as a couple after attending filmmaker Karan Johar’s 50th birthday celebration together. Since then, Hrithik and Saba have frequently been seen together at social gatherings, events and casual outings. Their relationship has continued to attract significant public interest, particularly because of Hrithik’s status as one of Bollywood’s most prominent actors. Before his relationship with Saba, Hrithik was married to Sussanne Khan. The couple tied the knot in 2000 and later welcomed two sons. Hrithik and Sussanne separated and eventually divorced in 2014, but they have maintained a cordial relationship and continued to co-parent their children. Saba has also developed a friendly connection with Sussanne and has been seen spending time with her and members of her family. Hrithik, meanwhile, shares a cordial relationship with Sussanne’s partner, actor Arslan Goni. Their modern family dynamic has often attracted positive attention from fans. The latest dating-app speculation has therefore remained unconfirmed, while Hrithik and Saba’s recent appearance together has seemingly eased concerns among their followers. Although neither has publicly addressed the latest rumours, their outing at Juhu PVR suggests that the speculation about a possible breakup may not reflect the current state of their relationship. For now, the alleged Raya profile remains unverified, and there is no confirmed indication that Hrithik and Saba have ended their relationship. Fans are likely to continue watching their public appearances for further clues, but any conclusions about their personal lives remain speculative until either of them chooses to comment publicly.

Adrianne Palicki shares disappointment over Friday…

Adrianne Palicki is opening up about her honest feelings regarding the upcoming Friday Night Lights reboot, and while she is excited that a new generation will experience the beloved franchise, she admits she has mixed emotions about revisiting what she considers a “perfect” television series.  Palicki, who portrayed fan-favorite Tyra Collette for three seasons of the acclaimed sports drama, recently reflected on the show’s legacy during an interview with TV Insider. Looking back, the actress described the original series as “timeless,” explaining that its themes of family, community, hope, and personal growth remain just as relevant today as they were when the show first premiered in 2006.  “Aside from a cell phone here and there, everything is still happening today,” Palicki said, emphasizing that the series explored the complexities of real people living in a small Texas town. She noted that every character existed in a moral gray area, which helped make the show feel authentic and relatable rather than overly dramatic.  Although Peacock is developing a fresh adaptation of Friday Night Lights, Palicki admitted she is “torn” about the project. She explained that the original series holds a special place in her heart and questioned whether such an iconic story truly needs to be reimagined. According to the actress, the original was “a perfect show,” making the idea of a reboot difficult to embrace.  That said, Palicki clarified that her hesitation does not come from negativity toward the new creative team. Instead, it stems from her deep respect for the original cast, writers, and creators who built the series into one of television’s most beloved dramas. She even suggested she would be open to returning if the original creative team and cast were meaningfully involved, though she remains uncertain about a complete reinvention featuring entirely new characters.  The actress also reflected on the lasting impact of Tyra Collette, a character who evolved from a misunderstood teenager into a determined young woman chasing higher education and a better future. Palicki revealed that fans still approach her years later to share how Tyra’s journey inspired them to pursue college or overcome personal challenges. Those heartfelt stories, she said, are a reminder of why Friday Night Lights continues to resonate decades after its debut.  Based on H.G. Bissinger’s 1990 nonfiction book, Friday Night Lights became a cultural phenomenon thanks to its emotionally rich storytelling and memorable characters. While the reboot promises a fresh cast and a new direction, Palicki believes the original’s emotional depth is what made it truly unforgettable.  As excitement builds for the reboot, Adrianne Palicki’s candid remarks reflect the feelings of many longtime fans. For her, Friday Night Lights was more than just a television series—it was a story that continues to inspire audiences, making its legacy difficult to replicate.
