Alia Bhatt backs Delhi student protest, says, “The future is theirs”

Alia Bhatt has joined the growing list of Bollywood stars speaking up for the students protesting in Delhi.

The actress shared a heartfelt note on Instagram after the demonstrators faced police action during Monday’s march. She admitted the past few days had left her emotionally shaken, but also filled with hope.Alia Bhatt shares an instagram post supporting student protest

Bhatt described each protesting student as carrying more than personal ambition. She said they represent years of family sacrifice, hard work, and dreams of a better future.

She went on to praise their courage in strong terms. Bhatt said their determination should push everyone to ask whether the country is truly listening to the generation shaping its tomorrow. She ended her note with a message dedicated entirely to the students, closing with “Jai Hind.”

Bhatt is not the first major star to speak out. Salman Khan broke his silence a day earlier, sharing his own message of support on social media.

Khan called the protest peaceful and praised the students for their bravery. He expressed sadness that the movement had turned violent and said his heart went out to the injured students and their families. He described the paper leak controversy as a serious issue and appreciated the way the country’s youth had united for a fairer education system.

Khan also made a pointed request. He said the movement should remain free from political interference and that all credit should go strictly to the students who organized it.

Other celebrities have joined the show of solidarity as well. Huma Qureshi and her brother Saqib Saleem visited the protest site at Jantar Mantar early Thursday morning, arriving around 2 am to stand with the demonstrators in person.

Several more names from the film industry have voiced support in recent days. These include Rajkummar Rao, Prakash Raj, Naseeruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Shabana Azmi, and Javed Akhtar.

The wave of celebrity support comes as the student-led protest, backed by the Cockroach Janta Party, continues to gain national attention. The movement began over anger surrounding the NEET paper leak and has since grown into a broader push for accountability in India’s education system.

With more public figures expected to react, the protest continues to dominate conversations both online and offline across the country.

Shan Masood resumes batting ahead of England Tests

BECKENHAM: Pakistan batter Shan Masood has taken another important step towards returning to Test cricket, resuming batting practice with the national squad ahead of the three-match series against England. Masood, 36, suffered a fractured index finger during the opening Test against the West Indies in Tarouba, despite scoring a century in the first innings. The injury forced him to miss the second Test, but the former Pakistan captain remained with the squad to continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of the team’s medical staff. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has now confirmed that Masood participated in a training session at Kent County Cricket Club in Beckenham, where Pakistan players worked through batting and bowling drills. “Under the supervision of the medical team, he carried out batting practice,” the PCB said in an update. Masood’s progress will be closely monitored as Pakistan prepare for a demanding series against England. His availability for the first Test will depend on his recovery and clinical assessment. The opening Test is scheduled to begin at Headingley on August 19, leaving Masood only a limited window to prove he is fit enough for the challenge. Before the series begins, Pakistan will play a four-day warm-up match against PCC Select XI starting Wednesday. The fixture will provide the squad with valuable preparation in English conditions. The second Test will be played at Lord’s from August 27, followed by the final match at Edgbaston from September 9. For Pakistan, Masood’s return could provide a significant boost to the batting line-up. His century in the Caribbean showed his ability to make an impact, and his recovery now gives the team hope that the experienced left-hander could be back when the England challenge begins. Congolese health officials intercept river boat to test 300 passengers following suspected Ebola death

Health authorities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have intercepted a river boat carrying more than 300 passengers near Kinshasa to perform emergency screening following the death of a passenger suspected of having contracted Ebola. The vessel was stopped in Maluku, located approximately 65 kilometres upstream from the capital, where public health teams deployed a mobile laboratory to conduct clinical evaluations and temperature checks on all individuals aboard. Medical personnel collected blood samples from four passengers exhibiting feverish symptoms, with laboratory results expected to confirm whether the virus is present. The precautionary intervention follows the death of a 32-year-old man who travelled on the boat and later tested positive for suspected symptoms of the disease. Health officials face conflicting accounts regarding the origin of the vessel and where the deceased passenger boarded, as discrepancy remains between regional health directors regarding whether the trip originated in Mongala province or in Kisangani, the capital of Tshopo province, where an active Ebola outbreak is ongoing. In response to the broader regional health emergency, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention announced plans to expand the administration of vaccines and antiviral treatments, including remdesivir, across affected provinces to contain further transmission.

Gigi Hadid breaks silence after secret wedding rumours

Gigi Hadid has made a fresh social media appearance after recently grabbing attention with a wedding ring during a public outing with her boyfriend, Bradley Cooper. The supermodel, who was previously in a relationship with singer Zayn Malik, returned to Instagram on Sunday, August 9, sharing a series of photos that gave fans a glimpse into her summer days with her daughter, Khai. The update came just days after Gigi and Bradley fueled speculation that they may have secretly tied the knot. The 31-year-old model appeared to be enjoying a relaxed summer getaway with family and friends. Among the first pictures she shared was a sweet beach moment featuring Gigi alongside her younger sister, Bella Hadid. Both sisters looked effortlessly stylish as they posed together while enjoying the sunny surroundings. Another photo showed Gigi spending time with a close friend on a yacht, while their daughters were seen wearing matching swimsuits. The collection of images also captured several warm mother-daughter moments, highlighting how the model has been making the most of her summer break with Khai. Gigi’s post quickly attracted significant attention from her millions of followers. While many fans praised the beautiful summer snapshots, others could not help but notice how much Khai has grown. Several followers took to the comments section to express their surprise at seeing the little girl looking noticeably older. Fans described Khai as “so big” and shared their amazement at how quickly she appears to be growing up. The Instagram update also gave Gigi an opportunity to shift the focus away from the recent wedding speculation and toward her personal life and time with her daughter. Rumours surrounding Gigi and Bradley intensified earlier this month when the couple were spotted together in Paris. On Monday, August 3, the pair were photographed walking hand in hand through the French capital, with their jewellery immediately catching the attention of fans. Both appeared to be wearing rings on their hands, leading to widespread speculation that they may have secretly exchanged wedding vows. However, neither Gigi nor Bradley has publicly confirmed that they are married. The couple, who have reportedly been romantically linked since 2023, have generally kept their relationship away from the spotlight. Their rare public appearances have therefore continued to attract considerable attention. Gigi’s ring also became a major talking point among fans. The jewellery reportedly features 33 quarter-carat diamonds set alongside 18-karat yellow and white gold in a Grosgrain design. The ring has been reported to cost around $6,450. Despite the growing speculation, Gigi has not addressed the marriage rumours directly. Instead, her latest Instagram post focused on her summer memories, family and daughter. For now, fans will have to wait for Gigi or Bradley to confirm whether the rings were simply jewellery or a sign of a secret wedding.
