West Indies post 344 as Sajid Khan shines, Pakistan face must-win Test

PORT OF SPAIN: Pakistan’s hopes of leveling the two-match Test series remain alive after restricting the West Indies to 344 all out on the opening innings of the second Test, thanks largely to an impressive four-wicket haul from off-spinner Sajid Khan. After winning the toss at Port of Spain, West Indies captain Roston Chase opted to bat first, a decision that paid dividends as his side produced several valuable partnerships to build a competitive first-innings total. Middle-order batter Justin Greaves led the resistance with a composed 73, while captain Chase contributed a determined 70 to anchor the innings. Opener Brandon King added 46, with Shai Hope making 29 and Amir Jangoo chipping in with 26. Pakistan’s bowlers, however, fought back effectively after the hosts appeared set for an even bigger total. Sajid Khan emerged as the standout performer, using sharp turn and disciplined lines to finish with four wickets and halt West Indies’ progress at crucial moments. Fast bowlers Obaid Shah, Mohammad Ali and Ali Usman also made significant contributions, claiming two wickets each to ensure the home side was bowled out for 344. Speaking at the toss, Pakistan captain Babar Azam revealed that he would also have chosen to bat first had he won the toss. He expressed confidence in his squad, saying the team was determined to play positive cricket and bounce back strongly after losing the opening Test. On the other hand, Roston Chase said his team wanted to turn its home ground into a fortress and therefore retained the same playing XI for the crucial encounter. The second Test carries enormous significance for Pakistan, who trail 1-0 in the two-match series. A victory is essential to square the series, while another defeat would hand the West Indies an emphatic series triumph. With the hosts setting a challenging target of 344 in the first innings, all eyes are now on Pakistan’s batting lineup. The visitors will need a disciplined and resilient performance to seize control of the contest and keep their hopes of salvaging the series alive.

Government allows cheaper export of costly importe…

The federal Ministry of Industries and Production has allowed the export of imported sugar at a lower price, a decision that could cause billions of rupees in losses to the national exchequer, according to ministry sources. Sources said the government has permitted the export of 100,000 tonnes of sugar. However, a decision on exporting 250,000 tonnes of cheaper locally produced sugar has not yet been taken. The sources described the decision to allow the export of only 100,000 tonnes as disappointing. They said the move could create financial losses because the sugar being exported was imported at a comparatively higher cost. The sources further warned that the decision could also affect sugarcane procurement in the country. According to them, sugar mills may face difficulties in purchasing sugarcane from farmers if the current situation persists. Sugar mill owners had already informed the Ministry of Industries and Production about the issue, sources said. They had reportedly warned the ministry that the limited export decision could make it difficult for mills to manage their stocks and purchase the upcoming sugarcane crop from farmers. The government is now facing a challenge in balancing sugar exports, domestic prices, the interests of farmers and the financial impact on the national exchequer. Sources said further decisions regarding the export of locally produced sugar are expected after reviewing the market situation and available stocks.

Missile hits ship leaving Strait of Hormuz, UK Mar…

A commercial vessel sailing out of the Strait of Hormuz was struck by a missile, causing damage to its engine and injuring members of its crew, the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) said on Tuesday. The incident has added to growing concerns over maritime security in one of the world’s most strategically important waterways, where tensions have remained high amid the wider conflict involving Iran and regional powers. According to UKMTO, the vessel was hit after leaving the Strait of Hormuz. The missile caused damage to the ship’s engine, while members of the crew were also affected in the attack. Omani coast guard personnel responded to the incident and are providing assistance to the crew, UKMTO said. No further details about the condition of the vessel or the extent of the injuries were immediately available. The agency did not identify who fired the missile. The circumstances surrounding the attack, including the type of missile used and the exact location of the strike, were also not immediately disclosed. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global shipping route through which a substantial share of the world’s oil supplies passes. Any attack on commercial shipping in or around the waterway can raise concerns about the safety of international trade and energy supplies. The latest incident comes as tensions remain particularly sensitive around the Gulf. Shipping companies and maritime authorities have been closely monitoring developments, with any disruption in the waterway capable of affecting global markets. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have strongly rejected what they describe as repeated claims and threats concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Ibrahim Azizi, chairman of Iran’s parliament’s National Security Commission, criticised US President Donald Trump over his remarks regarding the strategic waterway. In a statement issued from Tehran, Azizi urged Trump to focus on his own security instead of making what he called baseless and endless claims about the Strait of Hormuz. Azizi also made a provocative reference to Trump’s personal safety, saying the US president should think about ensuring his own security. The latest missile strike remains under investigation, and the identity of those responsible has yet to be established. Further information from maritime authorities is expected as officials assess the vessel, crew and circumstances surrounding the attack. For now, the incident has renewed fears that rising regional tensions could spill over into commercial shipping and threaten vessels using one of the world’s busiest energy corridors.

Muhammad Ahmed recalls being humiliated by fellow actor

Veteran Pakistani actor and writer Muhammad Ahmed has opened up about an upsetting experience in which he says he was repeatedly humiliated by a younger male actor on a drama set. Speaking on Sheeba Khan’s podcast Dareecha, the seasoned artist became emotional as he recalled the incident, saying that some actors behave very differently behind the scenes than they do in public. Muhammad Ahmed began by reflecting on how private interactions often reveal a person’s true nature. He said, “Actors show their true colours in private meetings, as I have experienced multiple times. Most recently, I remained calm when I was bullied because I know everyone has mobile phones, and they can record and post videos online with captions like, ‘See the reality of Muhammad Ahmed.’” He then explained why the remarks hurt him deeply. “I know I am bald, tanned, and short. I know this reality and often make fun of it myself, but what if you are told this by an actor who is 40 years younger than you?” He added that the actor frequently tried to attract attention by making loud comments in front of others. Recalling one such moment, Muhammad Ahmed said the actor mocked him for carrying a leather bag. “He said, ‘Oh Muhammad Ahmad, you are carrying a leather bag with you, it’s pure leather.’ He was shouting in front of everyone so that people would notice him because he was doing the lead role.” He further claimed that the actor also referred to comments Muhammad Ahmed had made years earlier about his performance. “Then he again said, ‘This man, Muhammad Ahmed, rated my acting four or five years ago and judged my future on the basis of it, whether I would survive in the industry or not,’ which is true because I had told the producer that this guy is good, and yes, that drama became a hit.” According to Muhammad Ahmed, he later reunited with the same actor on another project. Although he had expressed concerns to the producer beforehand, he was assured that the actor had changed. However, he said the behaviour continued. He recalled the actor saying, “I don’t know why people cast Muhammad Ahmed. He acts the same and has the same hairstyle.” Describing another incident, Muhammad Ahmed said the actor took a handheld fan from a female co-star, held it over his head like a hairdryer and joked, “Look, I am making his hairstyle.” He said he chose not to respond because he did not want to lower himself to that level or create unnecessary conflict on set. The veteran actor admitted that the experience left him deeply hurt. “I was humiliated, I completed my work and came home. I thought, ‘Am I that weak that I should be humiliated by an actor who joined the industry only eight years ago?’” He added that he remained silent out of respect for the producers and the rest of the team. Muhammad Ahmed concluded by saying that maintaining his composure was a conscious decision. “I didn’t say anything because the producers were so respectful. I maintained my calm because of my team. Nowadays, no one takes a stand for anyone.” His candid remarks have sparked discussion on social media, with many viewers expressing support for the veteran actor and calling for greater respect and professionalism within the entertainment industry.
