Apple plans smart glasses with future health and fitness features

Apple is reportedly working on a new generation of smart glasses that could eventually become an important part of its health and fitness ecosystem. Although the first version of the wearable device is expected to focus on core smart features, the company is said to have a long-term vision of transforming future models into personal health and wellness companions.

Apple is exploring ways to expand its health-focused product lineup beyond the Apple Watch. The company is believed to be developing advanced fitness and wellness features for its upcoming wearable devices, allowing users to monitor their health more conveniently throughout the day.

Apple has previously experimented with integrating fitness technology into its Vision Pro headset. The original concept involved a dedicated version of Apple Fitness+ that would let users participate in guided workout sessions while the headset tracked their body movements in real time. This system was designed to analyze posture, movement, and exercise performance, providing users with more accurate feedback during workouts.

Reports also suggested that Apple had developed sophisticated body-tracking technology capable of monitoring users’ physical movements with a high level of precision. The feature was intended to enhance fitness training by measuring exercise form and movement patterns. However, despite the promising technology, Apple ultimately decided not to introduce these fitness capabilities with the Vision Pro.

The main reason behind this decision was the headset’s weight. While Vision Pro offers advanced mixed-reality experiences, its relatively heavy design made it uncomfortable for prolonged physical activity. Wearing the headset during exercise was considered impractical, leading Apple to postpone its fitness ambitions for the device.

Rather than abandoning the idea altogether, Apple appears to be shifting its focus toward lighter wearable products, particularly its upcoming smart glasses. These glasses are expected to provide a more comfortable platform for delivering health and fitness experiences without the limitations posed by a bulky headset.

To support these efforts, Apple is reportedly recruiting specialists with expertise in health technology, spatial computing, and wearable devices. Recent job postings indicate that the company is looking for professionals who can help create innovative wellness and fitness experiences for future vision-based products. The hiring efforts suggest Apple remains committed to expanding the capabilities of its wearable ecosystem.

Industry analysts have also indicated that Apple may incorporate heart-rate monitoring technology into future smart glasses. The sensor technology is expected to be similar to the heart-rate monitoring features reportedly being developed for upcoming AirPods models. If implemented successfully, these sensors could allow users to monitor key health metrics without relying solely on the Apple Watch.

Although Apple has not officially confirmed the features or launch timeline, reports suggest that these advanced health capabilities are still under development. As a result, they are unlikely to appear in the first generation of Apple smart glasses.

Instead, Apple is expected to introduce these fitness and wellness functions gradually in future versions of the device as the technology matures. While consumers may need to wait several years before these advanced features become available, Apple’s continued investment in wearable health technology highlights its ambition to build a broader ecosystem that seamlessly combines everyday convenience with personal health monitoring.

PSX sheds over 1,800 points as US-Iran peace deal uncertainty triggers selling

KARACHI: Selling pressure intensified at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Tuesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index suffering a sharp decline as investors turned cautious amid growing uncertainty surrounding the prospects of a near-term peace agreement between the United States and Iran. By 1:24pm, the benchmark index had dropped 1,806.12 points, or 0.89%, to 178,896.29, compared with the previous close of 180,502.44. The decline reflected widespread profit-taking and fresh selling across several key sectors of the market. The KSE-100 started the session at 180,502.44 and initially moved higher, reaching an intraday peak of 180,602.44. However, the early gains failed to hold as investors began offloading positions, pushing the index steadily lower. During the session, the benchmark touched an intraday low of 178,488.91, highlighting the intensity of selling activity. At one stage, the index was down 1,545.52 points, or 0.86%, at 178,956.92, before losses widened further. Market sentiment was affected by renewed uncertainty over the possibility of a diplomatic breakthrough between Washington and Tehran. Investors remained concerned that prolonged tensions could create additional risks for energy supplies and regional trade, particularly if disruptions affect major oil-producing and transportation routes. The rise in international oil prices added another layer of concern for investors. Higher crude prices can increase Pakistan’s import bill and place additional pressure on external-sector balances, while also raising concerns about inflationary pressures and corporate costs. The selling was not confined to a single segment. Significant weakness was witnessed in automobile assemblers, cement manufacturers, commercial banks, oil and gas exploration companies, oil marketing companies and power generation firms. The broad-based nature of the decline suggested that investors were adopting a cautious stance rather than selectively rotating into individual sectors. Market participants appeared particularly sensitive to developments in global geopolitics and their potential implications for commodity prices and Pakistan’s macroeconomic outlook. Trading activity, meanwhile, remained robust despite the decline in the benchmark. Around 358.21 million shares had changed hands by midday, while the total traded value stood at approximately Rs22.47 billion, indicating considerable participation from investors. The latest decline came after the KSE-100 ended the previous trading session at 180,502.44, leaving the index vulnerable to profit-taking following its recent strong performance. Tuesday’s movement therefore reflected a combination of investor caution, external geopolitical concerns and selling in major market segments. Analysts and market participants are expected to closely monitor developments on the US-Iran front, movements in international crude oil prices and domestic economic indicators for direction in the coming sessions. Any improvement in geopolitical sentiment or a renewed expectation of progress toward a peace agreement could help restore confidence, while further escalation and sustained increases in global oil prices could continue to weigh on equities.

Modi calls for mercy as India moves past exam prot…

NEW DELHI: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for compassion toward students who participated in recent nationwide protests over a controversial examination paper leak, saying that punishment alone would not resolve the underlying issues that triggered one of the biggest political challenges of his third term. In a video message shared on social media, Modi said he wanted to forgive students who shouted abusive slogans against him during demonstrations held across the country last month. He argued that dragging young protesters through lengthy legal proceedings would not help restore trust or address their concerns. “These are misguided children. It is our responsibility to show them the right path,” Modi said. “Punishing them, making them appear repeatedly in court or subjecting them to social humiliation will not solve the problem.” The protests erupted after the leak of national examination papers forced authorities to conduct a retest for nearly two million students, sparking widespread anger over transparency, fairness and employment opportunities for young people. The demonstrations quickly spread to several cities, including the capital, New Delhi, where clashes broke out between protesters and security personnel. Police used tear gas and baton charges to disperse crowds attempting to march toward Parliament, while authorities registered cases against hundreds of demonstrators following incidents of violence and anti-government slogans. The student-led movement, identifying itself as the Cockroach Janta Party, has claimed that hundreds of protesters were arrested across different states despite government assurances that police cases against demonstrators would be withdrawn. Following weeks of sustained protests, the government accepted the movement’s key demands, including reforms to the examination system and the resignation of the education minister. The demonstrations were subsequently called off. At the same time, the Modi government has moved to tighten laws against examination fraud by introducing new legislation in Parliament. The proposed bill seeks stricter punishments, including longer prison terms and heavier financial penalties, for individuals involved in leaking examination papers or manipulating public examinations. Political analysts say Modi’s latest remarks appear aimed at easing tensions and encouraging national reconciliation after weeks of unrest. However, they note that public confidence will ultimately depend on the government’s ability to implement meaningful reforms that ensure transparent examinations and restore trust among millions of students preparing for competitive tests across India.

Haven revealed his sexuality during a live broadcast that appeared on Imbelli’s Substack platform. During the conversation, he also announced the launch of his upcoming weekly podcast, Save Haven with James Haven, where he plans to speak with guests about the defining moments, personal decisions, and life experiences that have shaped their identities. Speaking openly about his journey, Haven explained that he came out to Imbelli after their marriage was annulled in March 2025. The couple had tied the knot in August 2024, but their relationship ended only 15 days after the wedding. Reflecting on his childhood, Haven shared that he had always felt different but did not have the words to explain those feelings at the time. He recalled being fascinated by Disney princesses from a very young age, saying the characters helped him connect with a part of himself that he could not yet understand. He emphasized that his interest was never about pretending to be someone else. Instead, he described it as allowing his authentic personality to shine through. According to Haven, publicly acknowledging his sexuality is not about changing who he is but about letting others see the person he has always been. The actor and producer also expressed hope that his family and those close to him would respond with compassion and understanding. He said he wished people would choose love over fear and focus on their personal connection with him rather than labels or assumptions. Haven added that he remains the same individual, with the same personality and heart, despite sharing this deeply personal part of his life. During the livestream, Romi Imbelli voiced her support for Haven and admitted that she had long suspected he was gay. She explained that accepting the reality of the situation was emotionally difficult because she feared it would mean losing the relationship they had built together. Imbelli said she wanted to continue loving and supporting Haven while also coming to terms with the truth. She acknowledged that balancing those emotions had been challenging but ultimately believed honesty was the best path forward. Despite the end of their marriage, Imbelli described Haven as her lifelong partner in a different sense, saying they would continue to support one another through life. She expressed affection for him and said his sexual orientation did not change the love and respect she had for him as a person. Haven and Imbelli were married in a private ceremony in Laguna Beach, California, in August 2024. The intimate event was attended by close family members, including Haven’s father, actor Jon Voight. However, his sister, Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie, was reportedly not present at the ceremony. By publicly sharing his story, Haven hopes his experience will encourage greater understanding, acceptance, and compassion for others who are navigating similar personal journeys.

Meloni demands probe into Bologna death after violent clashes

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni has called for a thorough investigation into the death of a man during a police operation in Bologna, while strongly condemning violent protests that left dozens of police officers injured. The incident occurred in the Pilastro area of Bologna, where police were called to respond to reports of an aggressive man damaging a vehicle. The man, identified as Moroccan-born Abderrahim Fakir, died following the confrontation with police. Meloni said all facts surrounding the incident must be established through a transparent investigation. She stressed that the truth should be determined without bias and that responsibility should be identified based on evidence. The situation later escalated when protesters gathered in Bologna and clashes broke out with police. Demonstrators threw firecrackers, bottles and chairs at law enforcement personnel, prompting police to use tear gas and water cannons to control the crowd. Police officials said 56 officers were injured during the violent demonstrations. Meloni condemned the attacks on security personnel, saying violence could not be justified under any circumstances. Authorities have launched an investigation into the man’s death. Bologna police said body-camera footage from the officers involved would be handed over to investigators as part of the inquiry. According to initial reports, officers attempted to calm Fakir before using pepper spray and restraining him while trying to place him under arrest after he allegedly became aggressive. The incident has triggered political debate across Italy, with opposition parties demanding accountability and government supporters defending the actions of police officers. Meloni accused some protesters of using the incident as an excuse to create unrest rather than seeking justice. She said those responsible for attacking police and damaging public property were pursuing confrontation instead of the truth.
