Addressing his Indian fans, Atif said they should not feel sad or disappointed because of the restrictions. He clarified that what he misses is not simply working in India but, more importantly, the fans he has built there over the years.

Speaking after the meeting, Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik thanked the All Pakistan Petrol Pump Owners Association and various petroleum dealers’ organizations for their willingness to engage in dialogue.     ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court has fixed September 16 for hearing a contempt petition filed by Uzma Khanum, sister of PTI founder and former prime minister Imran Khan, over the alleged non-implementation of the court’s order regarding his medical treatment. The petition was submitted after the government took Imran Khan to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) instead of shifting him to Shifa International Hospital, as directed by the Supreme Court in its August 18 order. The court had also directed arrangements for regular meetings between Imran Khan and his family. PTI had challenged the government’s decision and filed a contempt petition through Uzma Khanum. The petition was returned after the Supreme Court registrar raised certain objections. The party later resubmitted it after addressing the objections. Speaking outside the Supreme Court, PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan said the party wanted the matter to be heard at the earliest. He said the PTI founder’s health remained the party’s primary concern. Gohar urged the authorities to facilitate meetings between Imran Khan and his family members. He maintained that the Supreme Court’s August 18 order had not been implemented in its original form. Uzma Khanum also submitted an application seeking an early hearing. She expressed concern over what she described as a deterioration in Imran Khan’s health and argued that further delay could have serious consequences. The application alleged that the government had failed to follow the Supreme Court’s directions. It maintained that if authorities required clarification about the order, they should have approached the court instead of taking a different course of action. The government, meanwhile, has filed a review petition challenging the August 18 order. It has described the directive as discriminatory and sought its reconsideration. Imran Khan was taken to PIMS on August 21 for a medical examination and was later returned to Adiala Jail after doctors declared him medically fit. The government has maintained that security concerns prompted the decision to use PIMS instead of Shifa International Hospital. Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said the security situation involving PTI workers affected the planned transfer. The Supreme Court had also declined an immediate hearing of petitions seeking contempt proceedings and review of its August 18 order. The government’s review petition is therefore expected to be heard according to the court’s schedule. Gohar said PTI wanted Imran Khan’s sister, Dr Uzma, and his personal physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, to be included in the medical board. He also called for the medical tests recommended by Imran Khan’s doctors to be conducted. The PTI chairman said the party was currently focusing on Imran Khan’s health rather than political matters. He described the issue as a humanitarian concern and urged the authorities to implement the Supreme Court’s directions. Gohar also questioned the detention of Imran Khan’s physician, Dr Faisal Sultan, who was taken to Shifa International Hospital. He asked why the doctor was detained for several hours while Imran Khan was not transferred to the same facility. He reiterated that a Supreme Court order should be followed unless the court itself modifies, reviews or suspends it. Gohar said PTI also recognised the importance of security arrangements and did not want any violation of security protocols. However, he claimed the party had not been informed in advance that security concerns would prevent Imran Khan’s transfer to Shifa International Hospital.

    LAHORE – Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz on Thursday inaugurated 77 electric buses on 17 routes in seven more districts — Vehari, Lodhran, Kasur, Gujrat, Narowal, Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib — expanding the province’s green public transport network. According to an official handout, women, students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities will travel free of charge, while the fare for all other passengers has been fixed at Rs20. The buses are equipped with wheelchair ramps, air conditioning, Wi-Fi, CCTV monitoring and charging ports. The handout said that 511 electric buses were already operational in 29 districts and one tehsil. With the latest addition, the number of operational electric buses has increased to 588 across 36 districts. Another 101 electric buses have already reached nine districts, while the remaining 488 buses are expected to arrive by the end of August 2026. It added that 1,500 more electric buses would be introduced across every tehsil of Punjab after the completion of the ongoing district-level project. Funds worth billions of rupees have been allocated for the initiative under the Annual Development Programme. Addressing the inauguration ceremony, the chief minister said the seven districts had received government-operated public transport for the first time. She described the Green Bus Service as a popular initiative that had made daily commuting easier for people travelling to educational institutions, hospitals and workplaces. CM Punjab said that during her visit to Azad Jammu and Kashmir, she realised the importance of the Green Bus Service, adding that demand for the facility there was higher than anywhere else she had seen. She expressed confidence that the number of electric buses in Punjab would reach 1,100 by the end of August. The handout further stated that 11 electric buses had been allocated to each of the seven districts. In Gujrat, the buses will operate on routes from the General Bus Stand to Mangowal and Daulat Nagar. In Narowal, services will run from the General Bus Stand to Manga Pull, Shakargarh, Pasrur Chowk, Zafarwal and on the circular route. In Kasur, buses will ply between the General Bus Stand and Kacha Paka, and between the General Bus Stand and Gajju Matta Stop. In Sheikhupura, services will operate from the e-bus depot to Shahdara Metro Station and Khanqah Dogran. In Nankana Sahib, the buses will run from the General Bus Stand to Mor Khunda and Warburton. In Lodhran, the routes will connect Shaheed Islam Hospital with Kehror Pacca and Dunyapur. In Vehari, the buses will operate from Government Graduate College to Fawara, and from Pir Mahal to Tibba Sultanpur.

    Punjab cybercrime crackdown, 28 suspects arrested

    LAHORE: Authorities have arrested 28 suspects in Lahore, Faisalabad and Multan as part of a major crackdown on organised online fraud, exposing alleged schemes that relied on impersonation, fake investment opportunities and fabricated official identities to deceive citizens. The arrests were made during a province-wide operation by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) Punjab, directed by Punjab Director Muhammad Ali Wasim, officials said. Investigators also seized 24 mobile phones and a laptop, which are now being examined for evidence that could lead to other members of the alleged network. The investigation has revealed how fraudsters allegedly manipulated trust to convince victims to hand over large sums of money. Millions allegedly lost in Lahore scam In Lahore, 18 suspects were arrested in separate operations. Investigators said the suspects allegedly impersonated relatives, visa agents, government officials and personnel associated with the Punjab Safe Cities Authority. In one case, suspects allegedly posed as both a relative and a visa agent and persuaded a victim to transfer Rs25.86 million. The case has highlighted how scammers can combine apparently familiar identities with urgent requests to make their schemes appear legitimate. Rs54.66m trading fraud uncovered Three suspects were arrested in Faisalabad in connection with alleged online trading fraud and unauthorised access to a company email account. According to investigators, a victim was shown fabricated trading records, digital-wallet balances and purported profit statements to create the impression that substantial returns were being generated. After being persuaded to invest, the victim allegedly lost Rs54.66 million, investigators said. The case demonstrates the growing sophistication of investment scams, where criminals allegedly use manipulated digital information to make fraudulent platforms appear genuine. Multan arrests expose impersonation tactics In Multan, seven suspects were arrested for allegedly posing as relatives, bank employees and individuals claiming to be based in Britain. Officials said victims were approached with various demands, including payments supposedly required for prize money, customs clearance, taxes and visa renewals. Such tactics typically create a sense of urgency, leaving victims with little time to verify the identity of the caller or the authenticity of the demand. Digital evidence now under forensic examination NCCIA investigators are examining the seized devices through forensic analysis. Financial transactions, call records and digital communications are also being reviewed to establish the full extent of the alleged operation and identify other people who may be connected to it. The crackdown comes amid growing concern over online financial fraud in Pakistan. The NCCIA’s own statistics identify financial fraud as a major category of reported cybercrime. The latest arrests underscore a simple but increasingly important warning: an apparently familiar voice, official-looking message or promising investment opportunity may not be what it seems. Authorities are expected to continue the investigation as they trace the alleged network and follow the digital and financial trails left behind.
