Pakistan’s Commonwealth campaign ends with one medal

Pakistan concluded its campaign at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow with just one medal, marking the country’s poorest performance at the event in more than three decades.

Pakistan sent a contingent of 21 athletes to compete across various disciplines but returned with only a single medal. The country’s sole podium finish came in women’s boxing, where Fatima Zahra secured a medal for Pakistan.

The result marks the first time since the 1998 Commonwealth Games that Pakistan has finished the event with only one medal. In 1998, the country won a lone silver medal.

It was also Pakistan’s weakest Commonwealth Games performance in the last 36 years. The only poorer result came in 1990, when the national contingent failed to win any medal.

Pakistan’s hopes of improving its medal tally on the final day were dashed when judoka Shah Hussain Shah was eliminated in his opening bout, ending the country’s campaign without any further success.

Shah Hussain Shah and Olympic javelin thrower Arshad Nadeem had been widely regarded as Pakistan’s strongest medal prospects heading into the Games. However, both athletes fell short of expectations and were unable to secure podium finishes.

The disappointing campaign stands in sharp contrast to Pakistan’s performance at the previous Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham four years ago, where the country won a total of seven medals, including two gold medals.

The latest results have raised concerns over Pakistan’s overall performance in international multi-sport events, with the country finishing the Glasgow Games with only one medal despite sending athletes in several disciplines.

Harry sees Invictus Games as chance to reconnect with King Charles

Prince Harry reportedly views next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham as a genuine opportunity to repair his strained relationship with King Charles. The event is said to hold deep personal significance for him. According to RadarOnline, organisers of the Invictus Games are planning to invite the monarch to attend next year’s edition. Insiders claim the Duke of Sussex sees the homecoming event as a meaningful chance to grow closer to his father. A source told the outlet that Harry views the Birmingham Games as one of the most significant moments he’s experienced in years. According to the insider, bringing Invictus back to Britain carries deep personal weight for him. The source explained that Harry is determined to make the event a landmark occasion, one that celebrates both the organisation’s achievements and the servicemen and women it was created to support. That ambition, they said, remains central to his motivation. Beyond the event itself, insiders suggest there’s an added layer of significance given where things currently stand between Harry and his father. According to the source, Harry believes Invictus offers a rare setting where Charles could attend without the visit becoming solely about their relationship. The insider explained that the competitors would remain the true focus of the occasion throughout. At the same time, father and son could appear together in support of a cause they both understand and care about. That dynamic, sources suggest, could offer a low-pressure opportunity for the two to reconnect. Rather than a formal reconciliation attempt, the setting would allow any interaction between them to unfold naturally within a broader, shared purpose. For Harry, insiders say, the Games represent more than just an athletic event. They are being viewed as a potential turning point in a relationship that has remained visibly strained in recent years. Whether King Charles ultimately accepts the invitation remains to be seen. If he does, though, the Birmingham Games could become one of the more closely watched royal moments of the coming year.

Search teams recover body of American climber following fatal avalanche on Broad Peak

Search and rescue teams in northern Pakistan have recovered the body of 39-year-old American mountaineer Mallory Geis following a massive avalanche on Broad Peak, the world’s 12th-highest mountain. The disaster struck a 10-member international expedition led by renowned British-Nepali climber Nirmal “Nims Dai” Purja at an altitude of approximately 7,000 metres in the Karakoram range. Pakistani military helicopters and ground units deployed to the site have secured the remains of three victims so far, including Geis, Omani climber Nadhira Ahmed Abdullah Al Harthy, and Nepali guide Pur Bahadur Gurung. The Alpine Club of Pakistan confirmed that bad weather and hazardous high-altitude conditions have severely complicated ongoing search efforts for the remaining missing team members. Aerial drone footage spotted several other expedition members swept nearly 1,000 metres downhill by the slide, though ground teams have yet to reach them due to the extreme terrain. Local authorities in Gilgit-Baltistan stated that recovered victims were transported to regional medical facilities for official identification procedures, while military helicopters remain on standby for further retrieval operations as weather permits.

Voicemails for Isabelle: A heartfelt romance about…

Voicemails for Isabelle is a 2026 Netflix film. With a runtime of 1 hour and 48 minutes, it falls into the genre of romantic comedy and drama. It has received a rating of 7.8/10 on IMDB. Directed by Leah McKendrick, it features Zoey Deutch (Jill) and Nick Robinson (Wes) as its leads. The plot is simple but different. Izzy or Isabelle is Jill’s sister. She is suffering from cystic fibrosis and is unable to make it. Jill and Izzy share a strong sisterly and friendly bond with each other, and as Izzy leaves the abode, Jill is left broken. Jill lives in San Francisco and is sending voice messages to her deceased sister. However, the messages are somehow delivered to Wes, a real estate agent. As Wes and Jill cross paths, they fall in love. Wes tracks Jill down and comes to San Francisco. Will Jill really accept Wes as her soulmate even after she learns the truth about the voicemails? Watch the film to find out! In the subplot, Jill is also a student learning culinary from a master chef. As the chef practices nepotism, Jill is angered and builds her own food truck, throwing an insult right at the chef’s face. Jill and Wes’s chemistry is compelling, driving the film’s momentum. The movie transcends typical romcoms, emphasizing sisterly love as a source of healing rather than focusing solely on romance. The film has faced criticism for its unsettling elements. Wes receives the voicemails and pursues a relationship with Jill without initially revealing his identity, which many find disturbing. The film is similar to the 90’s film, You’ve Got Mail. Except there are letters that are being posted whilst here it’s the voicemail that is speaking. In both cases, there is a stalker at the front. The soundtrack is catchy. It wins the heart of the viewer. The cinematography is great, just as the visuals are too. Jill says: “My body is like a sacred temple.” The sentence in a nutshell holds the true meaning of love. Love is not about carnal pleasure. Love is more than just the physical aspect of it. Love is about understanding and compromise. For Jill, love is sacred. And it isn’t something that is present for any person. When one falls in love, it is with one person. And that is love- holy and religious. In conclusion, Voicemails from Isabelle is very much like the recent film Obsession. Obsession, too, is a dark romance. It is about freaky love. Just as freaky as the love between Izzy and Jill and Jill and Wes. Voicemails from Isabelle is a well-made film. The dialogues are well delivered with a good selection of actors, and the thematic concern of how to find true love is rendered well. The film resonates with the viewer and is a great watch! Hats off to the entire cast and crew for coming up with a brilliant storyline. Kudos. make it proper title

PTI protest: man without both arms arrested over a…

ISLAMABAD: A unusual development emerged during the hearing of cases related to a Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest in Islamabad after police presented a man who has no arms in court on allegations of throwing stones and wielding sticks during the demonstration. The case relates to a protest held on August 5 in connection with supporters expressing solidarity with PTI founder Imran Khan. Several people arrested in connection with the protest were produced before the District and Sessions Courts in Islamabad. Among those presented was Altaf Ullah, who had been arrested by police and booked at Koral Police Station. Authorities accused him of involvement in acts including stone-pelting during the protest. However, the case took an unusual turn when the accused’s lawyer, Sardar Masroor, challenged the allegations before Duty Magistrate Rizwan-ud-Din. The lawyer argued that his client could not have carried out the alleged acts because he has no arms. He asked the court to consider the physical condition of the accused before proceeding with the case. The court examined the accused in the courtroom and confirmed that both of his arms were absent. Following the observation, the court discharged Altaf Ullah from the case. He was therefore released from the proceedings related to the allegations brought against him. The incident has drawn attention because of the apparent contradiction between the allegations in the police case and the physical condition of the accused. The case highlights the importance of verifying allegations and considering available evidence during legal proceedings. While police had accused the man of involvement in stone-pelting and wielding sticks, the court’s examination of his physical condition led to his discharge. The development came during hearings involving people arrested over the August 5 PTI-related protest in Islamabad. Authorities had registered cases against individuals accused of various activities during the demonstration. The court’s decision in Altaf Ullah’s case means that he has been discharged from the particular case presented before the magistrate. The PTI protest man without both arms arrested case has since attracted attention because of the unusual circumstances surrounding the arrest and subsequent court proceedings. Further proceedings in other cases related to the protest are expected to continue separately.
