Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has assured foreign investors of full government support, saying Pakistan is ready to facilitate investment and provide opportunities across different sectors.

Naqvi made the remarks during a meeting with British House of Lords member Lord Zamir Choudrey in Islamabad on Saturday.

The interior minister said Pakistan has significant investment potential and that the government wants to create an environment where foreign investors can operate with greater confidence.

He assured investors that all possible facilities would be provided to support their business activities in the country.

The discussion also covered regional peace and stability. Naqvi said Pakistan was continuing its efforts to promote lasting peace in the region.

He expressed optimism that the country’s diplomatic and peace initiatives would produce positive results.

Lord Zamir Choudrey appreciated Pakistan’s efforts to contribute to regional stability. He also praised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Defence Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir for their efforts to promote peace.

Choudrey said the government’s policies were helping create new opportunities for investment in Pakistan.

The meeting comes as Islamabad seeks to strengthen economic ties with international partners while promoting Pakistan as an attractive destination for foreign investment.

Pakistan has also been increasing cooperation with China on security and counterterrorism matters.

Earlier this month, Naqvi met Chinese Minister of State for Public Security and Special Service Bureau chief Ling Zhifeng at the United Nations headquarters in New York.

The two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation in internal security. Their discussions included border management, illegal immigration and efforts against drug trafficking.

Meanwhile, security concerns surrounding Chinese nationals working in Pakistan remain a major issue.

The CPEC Secretariat has decided to purchase a new bulletproof vehicle costing Rs95 million to strengthen security arrangements for Chinese citizens.

The vehicle will reportedly be a 3,500cc Toyota Land Cruiser. It will be added to the existing fleet of security vehicles used for the protection of Chinese nationals.

Government departments have also acquired or are seeking additional bulletproof vehicles and helicopters for security purposes.

Officials have said Chinese citizens face significant security risks in Pakistan. As a result, they are generally restricted from travelling in ordinary, non-bulletproof vehicles.

Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal said the protection of Chinese nationals is a key responsibility of the Pakistani government.

The purchase also highlights the security challenges linked to major China-Pakistan economic projects.

The government is balancing efforts to attract more foreign investment with measures aimed at improving the security of international investors and workers.

    Lahore: A routine family gathering or an emergency political huddle? That is the question many analysts are asking after Saturday night’s meeting of the Sharif family at Raiwind. PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz met at the family’s residence amid rising political turbulence. Officially, it was their regular weekly meeting. Unofficially, it came at a time when Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s remarks about a “governance system collapse” had sent shockwaves through political circles. The timing alone was enough to trigger speculation. According to reports, Shehbaz Sharif briefed Nawaz Sharif on developments at the Centre, while Maryam Nawaz presented the political picture from Punjab. The meeting also reviewed Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, where the PML-N defeated its main rival, the PPP, in first phase of the polls. The first phase of the AJK polls, however, have refused to die down. Analysts continue to question their credibility, while PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has mounted an aggressive campaign against the PML-N. Bilawal has even warned that the federal government could face consequences if the elections in second and third phases were manipulated. Yet many political observers believe Bilawal’s criticism is not the Sharifs’ biggest headache. For them, Naqvi’s remark carries far greater political weight. The reason is simple. Bilawal is the head of a coalition partner and his criticism is part of routine political sparring. Naqvi, however, occupies a far more sensitive position. His words are rarely treated as ordinary political rhetoric. That also explains why the PML-N responded swiftly to Bilawal’s attacks but chose not to publicly challenge Naqvi’s remarks. And many believe silence, in politics, often speaks louder than rebuttals. Naqvi made the comments while addressing members of the business community in Islamabad. Although he somehow elaborated on what he meant by “system failure”, the phrase immediately ignited debate across political and media circles. Some analysts see the statement as a warning about governance failures. Others believe it reflects growing unease within influential quarters over the government’s performance. There are also those who argue it should not be overinterpreted and was merely a critique of the country’s political dysfunction. The debate gained further traction after the DG ISPR, during his recent media interaction, also described Pakistan’s problems as political failures, though in a different context. Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry on Friday termed good governance “quintessential” for Pakistan’s security and stability. He made the remarks while addressing a press conference on the country’s overall security situation, particularly the situation in Balochistan. However, together, the two statements have fueled fresh political speculation. Whether that speculation has any substance remains an open question. Analysts themselves remain divided. Senior analyst Najam Sethi believes the Shehbaz is not going anywhere yet reshuffling of the federal cabinet and constitutional changes that could strengthen the Centre’s authority are on cards. Veteran journalist Sohail Warraich, weeks ago, had read the situation differently He argues that governments ultimately survive on economic performance, not political messaging. In his view, the coalition that has governed Pakistan since the parliamentary vote that removed former prime minister Imran Khan in April 2022 has struggled to convince the public that it can turn the economy around. If economic indicators fail to improve, he believes political pressure will only intensify. The political temperature continued to rise on Sunday. For now, the Raiwind meeting has ended, but the questions it has raised remain unanswered. Was it merely another weekly family consultation? Or did Naqvi’s “system failure” remark force the ruling family to reassess an increasingly uncertain political landscape? The coming weeks may provide the answer.

The demonstrations intensified after security forces attempted to stop protesters marching toward Parliament during the monsoon session. Police used tear gas and batons to disperse crowds after protesters tried to breach security barriers. Clashes later broke out, leaving scores of protesters and security personnel injured. Following the unrest, authorities increased security across central Delhi by deploying additional police personnel, strengthening barricades and monitoring key government buildings to prevent further violence. The protest movement, which initially focused on examination paper leaks, has gradually expanded into a broader campaign highlighting concerns over unemployment, educational opportunities and governance.     LAHORE: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi has ordered authorities at Allama Iqbal International Airport to speed up the immigration process after passengers complained about delays during his visit to the facility. Several passengers told him that the process was taking around 30 minutes and urged authorities to improve arrangements. At the same time, he stressed that travellers carrying complete and valid documents should not be unnecessarily stopped from boarding their flights. Naqvi said modern technology had made immigration procedures more efficient but warned that strict action would continue against people attempting to travel using fake or fraudulent documents.
