Bridgerton season 5 confirms new cast changes

Netflix’s hit period drama Bridgerton is officially in production for its fifth season, with the streaming giant confirming that the series will return in 2027. As filming gets underway, details about the cast have begun to emerge, including one confirmed departure, several returning favourites and a former lead who says she is still waiting for an invitation to return.
Season five will focus on Francesca Bridgerton, played by Hannah Dodd, as the story explores her life following the death of her husband, John Stirling. Masali Baduza will reprise her role as Michaela Stirling, who is expected to play a central part in Francesca’s emotional journey throughout the upcoming season.
Netflix is also expanding the show’s ensemble with several new additions. Tega Alexander has been cast as Christopher Anderson, while Jacqueline Boatswain will portray Helen Stirling. Gemma Knight Jones is joining the series as Lady Elizabeth Ashworth, introducing fresh characters to the Bridgerton universe.
A number of familiar faces are also set to return. The confirmed returning cast includes Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton, Golda Rosheuvel as Queen Charlotte, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, and Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton. Showrunner Jess Brownell has also confirmed that Alice and Will Mondrich will continue to be part of the story, ensuring the Mondrich family remains involved in the series.
Nicola Coughlan has confirmed she will return as Penelope Bridgerton, although fans should expect to see less of her this season. Speaking previously on the Dish podcast, she said, “Season five had started filming already, so I won’t be in it very much. I’m always happy to come back. I think it’s a genuinely lovely job to come back to.”
Several other major cast members—including Jonathan Bailey, Simone Ashley, Luke Thompson, Yerin Ha, Luke Newton and Polly Walker—are widely expected to reprise their roles. However, Netflix has not yet officially confirmed their involvement in the upcoming season.
The most significant confirmed departure is Victor Alli, who is not expected to return following the death of John Stirling in season four. Meanwhile, former series lead Phoebe Dynevor, who played Daphne Bridgerton, revealed that she has not yet been contacted about returning. She previously said, “I have not received a call. When I get that call, I will be there if I can,” indicating that she remains open to reprising her role if the opportunity arises. With filming now underway, fans can expect more casting announcements and story details to emerge ahead of the show’s anticipated 2027 release.

Young people increasingly turn to AI chatbots for emotional support and social advice

Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly common source of support for teenagers and young adults as many begin relying on AI-powered chatbots to navigate personal conversations, relationships, and everyday social situations. Recent national studies suggest that around 20 percent of young people now seek guidance from AI companions for emotional support and relationship advice instead of turning to friends, family members, or other trusted individuals. Experts say that the growing popularity of AI chatbots reflects changing communication habits among younger generations. Many users are employing these digital tools to help write difficult text messages, prepare for challenging conversations, and better understand complicated social interactions. For many, artificial intelligence provides a convenient and accessible way to think through personal situations before speaking with others. Researchers have found that many teenagers appreciate AI because it is available at any time of the day or night. Unlike human conversations, interacting with a chatbot does not involve the immediate fear of criticism, embarrassment, or rejection. This constant availability has made AI an appealing option for individuals who may feel anxious about discussing sensitive topics with people in their lives. Clinical psychologist Joshua Goodman believes that AI chatbots can offer users a comfortable environment to explore their thoughts and emotions. He explained that conversations with artificial intelligence may feel like a safe place where young people can discuss issues they might hesitate to share with parents, teachers, or friends. This sense of privacy and emotional comfort has contributed to the increasing use of AI for personal guidance. However, mental health professionals caution that artificial intelligence should not be viewed as a replacement for genuine human relationships. While AI can provide information, suggestions, and conversational support, experts emphasize that it lacks the emotional understanding, empathy, and lived experience that real people bring to meaningful relationships. Clinical psychologist Mary Alvord has warned that although AI conversations may seem safe, users should remember that perceived privacy is different from actual privacy. She pointed out that interactions with chatbots may be stored, analyzed, or processed by technology providers, meaning users should be careful about sharing highly personal or sensitive information. Experts also stress that artificial intelligence cannot fully replicate the complexity of human communication. Media psychologist Don Grant explained that chatbots are generally designed to remain supportive and non-confrontational. While this may make conversations feel comfortable, it also means users may not experience the constructive challenges, disagreements, or honest feedback that often help people develop stronger communication skills and emotional resilience. According to specialists, relying too heavily on AI for social interactions could reduce opportunities to practice real-life communication. Building confidence in conversations, resolving disagreements, and forming lasting friendships require experiences that technology cannot fully provide. Human relationships involve empathy, body language, emotional understanding, and shared experiences that remain difficult for artificial intelligence to reproduce. To encourage a healthy balance, health professionals recommend using AI as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for personal relationships. They advise parents, educators, and young adults to establish clear boundaries regarding AI use while continuing to prioritize conversations with family members, friends, teachers, and mental health professionals when needed. Experts also encourage young people to regularly practice face-to-face communication, participate in social activities, and develop interpersonal skills that strengthen emotional well-being. These experiences help build self-confidence, improve problem-solving abilities, and create meaningful personal connections. As artificial intelligence continues to become part of everyday life, specialists believe it can play a positive role when used responsibly. However, they emphasize that maintaining genuine human relationships remains essential for emotional growth, mental health, and long-term social development. AI may offer convenience and support, but meaningful human connection continues to be irreplaceable.

QatarEnergy buys US LNG cargoes amid Hormuz crisis

QatarEnergy has purchased 33 liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargoes from the United States this year to reduce supply disruptions caused by the ongoing conflict in the region and the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, according to industry sources. The LNG shipments have been arranged for key Asian markets, including South Korea, Taiwan, Bangladesh, India and Japan, as Qatar works to maintain supplies for its long-term customers. The move comes after QatarEnergy declared force majeure on some of its LNG contracts following the shutdown of shipping routes through the Strait of Hormuz. The waterway is a critical global energy corridor through which a significant portion of the world’s oil and gas supplies passes. The company’s decision to purchase additional LNG cargoes from the US represents a major increase compared with previous years. In 2025, QatarEnergy had purchased only four spot LNG cargoes, while the number has now risen sharply to 33 in 2026. The additional purchases are aimed at protecting Qatar’s reputation as one of the world’s most reliable energy suppliers and ensuring that customers continue receiving gas despite regional instability. Industry sources said the US LNG purchases represent a goodwill effort by QatarEnergy to support important Asian buyers affected by the disruption. The 33 cargoes are estimated to equal around one-third of QatarEnergy’s monthly LNG exports before the conflict and are valued at nearly $1 billion. Qatar is among the world’s largest LNG exporters, with Asia accounting for around 80% of its LNG shipments. Countries such as Japan, South Korea and India rely heavily on Qatari gas supplies for energy security. The Strait of Hormuz crisis has created uncertainty in global energy markets, forcing major producers and consumers to seek alternative supply arrangements. QatarEnergy has not officially commented on the reported LNG purchases, but the move highlights efforts by energy companies to adjust supply chains amid geopolitical tensions.

William ‘will never forgive’ Harry, say friends of the prince

Prince William remains entirely focused on his wife Kate Middleton and their children, according to friends of the Prince of Wales. They claim Harry has effectively become a closed chapter for him. Royal expert Phil Dampier told the Daily Mail that William and Harry managed to set aside their differences five years ago for the unveiling of their mother Princess Diana’s statue. However, he said the relationship between the brothers has since deteriorated significantly further. Dampier suggested that even honouring Diana’s memory might not be enough to bring the two together again. He pointed out that next year marks the 30th anniversary of Diana’s death, which would seem like a natural moment for the brothers to attempt reconciliation. Despite that symbolic opportunity, Dampier said he does not believe William is genuinely interested in pursuing it. According to him, William’s heart simply isn’t in making that effort right now. Citing people close to the Prince of Wales, Dampier said Harry has essentially become part of William’s past. He explained that William’s attention is now firmly focused on his wife Catherine and their three children, George, Charlotte and Louis. The royal expert went further, suggesting William may never fully forgive his brother. According to Dampier, this isn’t only about Harry stepping away from royal duties, but also about the personal details he later shared publicly. He specifically referenced Harry’s memoir “Spare,” his Netflix docuseries, and his joint interview with Oprah Winfrey. Dampier said these projects left a lasting impact on how William views his brother. He added that comments made during that period led to Catherine being unfairly labelled a racist by some critics. According to Dampier, that particular fallout is something William is unlikely to ever forget. The remarks add to a growing body of commentary suggesting the rift between the two brothers has hardened rather than eased over time. With next year’s anniversary approaching, royal watchers will likely continue speculating over whether any reconciliation attempt materialises, even as insiders suggest William currently has little appetite for one.

West Indies resumed play on 194 for 3, but Pakistan’s pace attack maintained disciplined lines and lengths to trigger a dramatic collapse. The home side managed to add only 117 more runs before losing their remaining seven wickets. Shai Hope played the leading role for West Indies with a well-crafted 92, narrowly missing out on a century. Kevlon Hodge also made an important contribution with 84 runs. Babar creates another captaincy milestone for Pakistan

TRINIDAD: Pakistan captain Babar Azam added another milestone to his illustrious career after leading the national side for the 150th time in international cricket, joining legendary captains Imran Khan and Misbah-ul-Haq in one of Pakistan cricket’s most exclusive leadership clubs. The landmark came during the second Test against the West Indies, further cementing Babar’s place among the country’s most successful and experienced captains. The 31-year-old recently returned as Pakistan’s Test captain, replacing Shan Masood ahead of the team’s tours of the West Indies and England. His return marked a new chapter in a leadership journey that has already produced numerous records across all three formats. With 150 international matches as captain, Babar now stands third on Pakistan’s all-time list. Former World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan remains at the top with 187 matches, while Misbah-ul-Haq occupies second place with 151. Babar is also closing in on another remarkable achievement. He has guided Pakistan to 84 international victories, the second-highest by any Pakistan captain. Only Imran Khan, with 89 wins, has recorded more triumphs, while Misbah follows with 77 victories. Across his 150 matches in charge, Babar has registered 84 wins, 51 defeats, two ties, four draws and eight no-results, giving him an impressive overall winning percentage of 56 percent. Former captain Wasim Akram ranks fourth on Pakistan’s captaincy list with 134 international matches, followed by Inzamam-ul-Haq with 119 and Sarfaraz Ahmed with 100. Babar first captained Pakistan in T20 Internationals in October 2019 before taking charge of the ODI side in May 2020. Later that year, he was appointed Test captain, becoming the leader across all three formats. He stepped down from the role after Pakistan’s disappointing campaign at the 2023 ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup, but was reappointed white-ball captain in March 2024 before resigning again later that year to focus on his batting. Following Pakistan’s recent leadership changes, the Pakistan Cricket Board restored Babar as Test captain ahead of the current overseas assignments. Reaching 150 international matches as captain places Babar among Pakistan cricket’s greatest leaders, and with several years of international cricket still potentially ahead of him, he now has an opportunity to surpass Misbah-ul-Haq and move closer to Imran Khan’s long-standing captaincy record.

Infantino faces fresh challenge from three football confederations

FIFA President Gianni Infantino is facing renewed criticism after three major football confederations jointly challenged his leadership and decision-making. UEFA, CONCACAF and the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) issued a strongly worded letter on Monday. They stressed that football is a collective institution and should not be controlled by any single individual. The latest criticism follows Infantino’s controversial proposal to allow private investment in FIFA competitions, including the World Cup. The plan was withdrawn only days after it was announced following strong opposition from several football bodies. The three confederations had previously criticised the proposal. Their latest statement indicates that tensions with FIFA’s leadership have not eased despite the withdrawal of the plan. The organisations argued that leadership in football should be based on responsibility, transparency and collective decision-making. They accused FIFA’s leadership of failing to meet those standards. The dispute could become particularly significant ahead of next year’s FIFA presidential election. Infantino is expected to seek a fourth and final term in office. The election is scheduled to take place in Rabat next March, while candidates must declare their intentions by November 18. CONCACAF President Victor Montagliani is considered a potential challenger to Infantino. Infantino had previously appeared likely to face little opposition after FIFA oversaw a successful 2026 World Cup in the United States, Mexico and Canada. However, the private investment controversy has changed the political landscape within world football. UEFA played a major role in forcing the proposal off the table. European football officials had warned that they could consider boycotting World Cups if the investment plan went ahead. Such a move could have seriously affected the tournament because it could have involved major football nations, including Spain, France and England. The three confederations said FIFA’s own explanation of the controversy had focused too heavily on communication problems. They argued that the issue was more serious and reflected what they described as a failure of judgment. They also questioned an emergency meeting in Morocco where senior FIFA officials expressed support for Infantino. According to the confederations, the meeting did not adequately address their concerns because only selected members of FIFA’s management leadership were involved. They argued that FIFA’s leadership should engage directly with its wider institutional structure and staff. Infantino still retains support in several parts of the football world. The Confederation of African Football has backed him, while South American football’s governing body CONMEBOL remains broadly supportive. Support for him also exists within CONCACAF and the AFC, although the confederations do not vote as unified blocs in the FIFA presidential election. The dispute comes after Infantino spent a decade at the helm of FIFA and oversaw major changes to the World Cup and the organisation’s distribution of financial resources. The three confederations acknowledged that football had experienced significant growth during the past decade. However, they stressed that these developments were achieved through cooperation between FIFA, continental confederations, national associations and thousands of people involved in the sport.
