Zelensky alleges Russia shared satellite intelligence with Iran to target US bases

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has accused Russia of helping Iran identify US military positions in the Gulf by providing satellite intelligence, adding another layer of tension to the already strained relationship between Moscow, Tehran, and Kyiv. His remarks come as Ukraine and Iran exchange fresh accusations following an attack on an Iranian vessel in the Caspian Sea.

In a statement shared on social media, Zelensky claimed that Ukraine had observed increased Russian satellite monitoring of Gulf countries and American military installations since the beginning of July. According to him, the satellite images were later used by Iran, with a noticeable connection between the timing of the surveillance and Iranian attacks. He alleged that the imagery was gathered before strikes to assist with planning and then again afterward to evaluate the extent of the damage. While Zelensky did not release evidence to support the claim, he insisted the pattern was clear and significant.

The allegations surfaced shortly after Ukraine announced a series of long range military operations in the Caspian Sea. Zelensky said Ukrainian forces had successfully struck vessels carrying military cargo linked to Iran as well as a warship. Ukrainian intelligence later stated that drones had targeted sanctioned cargo ships allegedly involved in transporting military equipment between Iran and Russia. The operation marked one of Kyiv’s most direct actions against assets connected to Tehran and reflected Ukraine’s growing willingness to challenge countries it believes are supporting Russia’s war effort.

Iran reacted strongly to the reported strikes. The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Ukraine’s senior diplomat in Tehran to protest what it described as a hostile and unlawful attack. Iranian officials said one sailor was killed and several others were injured when a commercial vessel exploded following the strike. The ministry rejected any suggestion that Iran had played a role in the war between Russia and Ukraine and insisted the country had remained outside the conflict.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also condemned the attack, describing it as a serious violation of the United Nations Charter. He claimed the operation had been carried out to advance Israeli interests and accused Kyiv of trying to draw Europe deeper into the regional conflict. Araghchi said he had discussed the matter with European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, warning that Iran would not allow the incident to pass without a response.

Zelensky’s latest accusations regarding Russian support for Iran are not entirely new. Earlier reports citing US officials claimed that Moscow had shared intelligence with Tehran about American military positions in the Middle East during the recent conflict involving Iran and the United States. Those reports also suggested that China could have played a supporting role, although no public evidence has confirmed those claims.

The issue has also created mixed messages within the US government. During a congressional hearing, US Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth acknowledged that Russia and China were helping Iran in different ways. He said there was clear cooperation among American rivals but declined to discuss the full extent of that support, arguing that the details should remain classified for security reasons.

Only days later, however, President Donald Trump publicly disagreed with that assessment. Writing on his Truth Social platform, Trump said he did not believe Russia or China had assisted Iran. He stated that both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping had assured him they were not involved in supporting Iranian military operations.

Despite those conflicting views, Zelensky maintained that Russian satellite activity offered direct evidence of cooperation. He specifically pointed to satellite surveillance conducted on July 19 and 20, claiming Russian satellites closely monitored four air bases used by the United States in Bahrain, Jordan, and Kuwait. According to the Ukrainian leader, the timing of those observations raised serious concerns about Russia’s role in helping Iran monitor American military assets in the region.

LHC Judge appointments spark Rawalpindi lawyers’…

Rawalpindi: A dispute has erupted among lawyers’ groups in Rawalpindi over recent appointments and nominations of judges to the Lahore High Court, with some bar organisations raising questions over the representation of Rawalpindi Division and demanding a review of the process. The controversy intensified after the Peoples Lawyers Forum Rawalpindi Division called the proposed nominations unacceptable and demanded that the Judicial Commission examine the reasons behind the selections and the rejection of other candidates. The forum questioned why no candidate from Rawalpindi Division was included in the nominations and demanded details about the criteria used for selecting nominees. Meanwhile, the High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi and District Bar Association Rawalpindi also expressed concern over what they described as the continued lack of representation of Rawalpindi Division in Lahore High Court appointments. The District Bar Association Rawalpindi stated that ignoring the region’s experienced lawyers raised concerns about merit, transparency and regional balance. The association said Rawalpindi Division has a large legal community consisting of seven district bars and fourteen tehsil bars, producing many renowned lawyers, judges and legal professionals who have contributed to Pakistan’s judicial system. According to the association, no member of the Rawalpindi Division bar has been confirmed as a Lahore High Court judge since 2017, despite several capable lawyers and additional judges from the region having served with distinction. The High Court Bar Association Rawalpindi described the continued absence of representation as a matter requiring attention and said consultations would be held with district and tehsil bars to decide future steps. The Peoples Lawyers Forum also called on President Asif Ali Zardari and Peoples Lawyers Forum President Nayyar Hussain Bukhari to take notice of the situation. The forum requested that the notification process should be reviewed and that the Judicial Commission should provide details about the nominated candidates, their qualifications, selection reasons and the reasons why other candidates were not considered. The lawyers’ group demanded that if the process was found inconsistent with rules or principles of fairness, recommendations should be reconsidered and a fresh merit based review should be conducted. However, the dispute remains focused on questions of representation and transparency rather than any confirmed wrongdoing. The final decision regarding judicial appointments rests with the relevant constitutional authorities and judicial forums. The issue has now placed attention on the balance between merit based appointments and regional representation in the higher judiciary. Lawyers’ organisations have called for a transparent mechanism that ensures qualified candidates from all regions receive equal consideration while maintaining the independence and quality of the judicial system.

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has married his longtime partner, model and businesswoman Georgina Rodríguez, bringing their nearly decade-long relationship to a new chapter. The couple confirmed the marriage on August 11, 2026, through a post on Ronaldo’s Instagram account. The image showed two hands wearing wedding rings, with one hand resting over the other. The announcement quickly attracted millions of likes and widespread reactions from fans around the world. According to Portuguese media reports, Ronaldo and Rodríguez exchanged vows in a private civil ceremony in Cascais, a coastal town near Lisbon. The couple reportedly kept the celebration away from the public eye and limited the gathering to close family members. Their five children were present at the ceremony. Ronaldo’s eldest son, Cristiano Jr., as well as twins Eva and Mateo, Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda, were part of the family celebration. The wedding also carried special significance because it took place exactly one year after Rodríguez announced their engagement. On August 11, 2025, she shared a photograph of her engagement ring and confirmed that she had accepted Ronaldo’s proposal. Ronaldo and Rodríguez first met in Madrid in 2016, when Rodríguez was working at a Gucci store. Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid at the time. Their relationship gradually became public, and they soon emerged as one of the most recognised celebrity couples in the sporting world. Over the years, Rodríguez has accompanied Ronaldo during major stages of his football career, including his moves from Spain to Italy, England and Saudi Arabia. At the same time, she developed her own career in modelling, fashion and entertainment. The couple’s relationship has also been closely followed through Rodríguez’s Netflix reality series, I Am Georgina, which has offered audiences a glimpse into their family life and international lifestyle. Their marriage announcement came shortly after false rumours circulated that the pair were preparing to marry in Madeira. On August 8, crowds of fans and photographers reportedly gathered near Funchal Cathedral after social media speculation suggested that Ronaldo and Rodríguez were holding their wedding there. The event turned out to be the wedding of another couple. Ronaldo, 41, remains one of football’s most decorated players. He has won the Ballon d’Or five times and has represented Sporting, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr, while also captaining Portugal.
