Cha-am Wan Lai festival set for 10 days of Songkran events
Cha-am is preparing for its Songkran celebrations, with local officials confirming a 10-day programme of events that will culminate in the Wan Lai Cha-am festival on 16 and 17 April.
Mr Nukun Pornsombunsiri recently inspected preparations for the event, with a focus on safety measures and facilities for both residents and visitors. Officials said the aim is to ensure the festival is lively, well organised and safe throughout the holiday period.
Wan Lai Cha-am will take place from 4pm to 11pm on 16-17 April along the southern Cha-am beach area. Organisers have planned a range of activities designed to attract both locals and tourists during one of the busiest periods of the year.
Festival highlights are set to include:
- a 1-kilometre water tunnel
- a live music stage and DJs
- 10 foam zones
- 20 water service points
Songkran activities planned across Cha-am
In addition to the Wan Lai celebrations, Cha-am Municipality has announced a broader programme of Songkran activities running from 10-19 April. These events will take place each evening from 6pm to midnight at the Cha-am beachfront viewpoint and will feature seafood, live music and a relaxed atmosphere for visitors spending the holiday by the sea.
Traditional Songkran activities are also scheduled for 13 April. The day will begin with an almsgiving ceremony at Cha-am Municipal Market at 7.30am, followed by a water-pouring ceremony for elderly residents at 8.30am. A parade is then due to begin at 10.30am, starting from Long Beach Hotel and continuing to the municipal office.
Officials said the programme is intended to balance entertainment with tradition, while also supporting tourism during the Songkran period.
Visitors have been encouraged to celebrate responsibly, help keep public areas clean and follow safety guidance during the festival.
