Cristiano Ronaldo hints at retirement, says upcomi…

Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has hinted that his retirement could be closer than expected, saying the upcoming year will probably be the final year of his playing career.

The 41-year-old Portugal captain made the comments in an interview with lifestyle magazine Vogue, saying he wants to leave behind a “spectacular legacy” when he eventually walks away from football.

Ronaldo has enjoyed one of the most successful careers in football history. Since making his senior debut for Sporting in 2002, he has won major trophies with Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and his current club, Al-Nassr. He has also won the Ballon d’Or five times.

Despite his extraordinary list of achievements, Ronaldo was unable to add a FIFA World Cup title to his collection after Portugal fell short at the 2026 tournament.

The forward has scored 976 goals for club and country during a career spanning more than two decades. He is now continuing with Al-Nassr as he approaches the remarkable milestone of 1,000 career goals.

Ronaldo also acknowledged that retirement would leave a major gap in his life. He said he plans to spend more time travelling, playing and watching padel, and enjoying life away from professional football.

His comments have intensified speculation about when one of football’s greatest careers will finally come to an end.

Houthis claim two hypersonic missiles fired at Mok…

SANAA: Yemen’s Houthi group has claimed it launched two hypersonic ballistic missiles towards the strategically important Mokha port on the Red Sea coast, adding to growing security concerns around one of the world’s busiest maritime routes. According to Turkey’s Anadolu Agency, the Yemeni military said the two missiles were fired towards Mokha port and the surrounding Red Sea area. However, there was no immediate independent confirmation of whether the missiles reached their intended targets or were intercepted before impact. No casualties or material damage were immediately reported following the alleged missile launches. Mokha, located on Yemen’s western coastline, is an important port area overlooking the Red Sea. The region has remained highly sensitive amid continuing tensions and repeated missile and drone attacks linked to the wider Middle East conflict. The latest claim is likely to raise fresh concerns over maritime security in the Red Sea, where attacks on commercial shipping have previously disrupted international trade and forced some vessels to consider longer alternative routes. The Houthis have repeatedly used missiles and drones in attacks around the Red Sea, saying their operations are connected to the broader regional conflict. Such incidents have drawn international attention because the waterway is a major passage for cargo and energy shipments between Asia, Europe and other global markets. For now, key details surrounding Monday’s alleged attack remain unclear, including the exact type of missiles used, their intended targets and whether any interception took place. The Houthi claim has not been independently verified, and further information from Yemeni authorities or other sources is expected to clarify what happened. With tensions already high across the region, the reported launch underscores the continuing risks facing ports and shipping lanes along the Red Sea.

Imran Khan’s sons renew concerns over father…

The sons of former prime minister Imran Khan have once again expressed concern over their father’s health, saying they have been unable to receive reliable information about his condition due to continued restrictions on family access. Speaking in an interview with an international news outlet, Kasim Khan and Sulaiman Khan said they have not been allowed to communicate with their father for several months and claimed that his family, lawyers and personal doctors have also been denied regular access. Kasim said the family has remained in the dark about Imran Khan’s health throughout his imprisonment. He referred to an Islamabad High Court order that directed authorities to facilitate regular phone calls, but claimed the arrangement has not been effectively implemented. The brothers, who were interviewed in London, also said they have been trying to travel to Pakistan but have faced difficulties related to travel documentation. According to them, their National Identity Cards for Overseas Pakistanis (NICOPs) have expired, while visa-related issues have prevented them from visiting their father. The Ministry of Information, however, rejected the allegations, maintaining that the brothers possess NICOPs and therefore do not require visas to enter Pakistan. The ministry described their claims as misleading and said an administrative matter should not be turned into a political issue. The government did not comment on the brothers’ claim that their identity cards had expired. Asked whether Imran Khan might reach a political understanding with the government, both sons expressed doubt. Sulaiman said his father would be unlikely to agree to any arrangement that did not also address the situation of other political prisoners. Kasim added that the family’s inability to obtain updated medical information made it difficult to assess his father’s current health. The brothers also criticised the legal cases against the former prime minister, insisting the allegations were politically motivated. Kasim urged the international community to pay attention to the situation, claiming that his father remained imprisoned despite enjoying widespread public support. Imran Khan has been in prison since August 2023 after being convicted in the Toshakhana case. He is also serving a sentence in the £190 million corruption case and continues to face several other legal proceedings, including cases linked to the May 9 riots. His health has remained a point of dispute between the government and the opposition since he was diagnosed earlier this year with central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), an eye condition affecting vision. Opposition leaders and members of his family have repeatedly demanded access for his personal doctors and called for his transfer to a private hospital for further treatment.

MUZAFFARABAD: One Rangers personnel was martyred and another seriously injured after an armed group opened fire during a road clearance operation in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), according to security sources. The incident occurred during a clearance operation on the Sarsawa-Tatrar-Khal road, where security personnel were working to clear the route and facilitate the reopening of blocked roads for local residents. According to security sources, the armed group targeted the Rangers personnel with sniper fireduring the operation. The sudden attack resulted in two personnel sustaining gunshot wounds. The sources said Sepoy Shahnawaz, a Rangers soldier, was struck by a bullet in the chest and succumbed to his injuries. Another Rangers personnel, Lance Naik Bilal, was shot in the shoulder and suffered serious injuries. Following the attack, security personnel took steps to secure the area and deal with the situation. Further details regarding the attackers and their whereabouts were not immediately available. Security sources said the martyred Rangers personnel, Sepoy Shahnawaz, belonged to Khairpur, Sindh. His death has added to the concerns surrounding the security situation during operations to reopen roads in the region. The clearance operation was reportedly launched following strong demands from local residents, who had called for blocked routes to be reopened. The operation was aimed at removing obstacles and ensuring that transportation could resume on roads used by residents of the affected areas. The attack occurred while security personnel were carrying out their duties, highlighting the risks faced by law-enforcement and security forces during road clearance and security operations. According to the sources, the use of sniper fire made the attack particularly dangerous, as personnel involved in the clearance operation were exposed to gunfire while attempting to restore access to the road. The injured Rangers personnel, Lance Naik Bilal, was reportedly in serious condition after sustaining a bullet wound to his shoulder. Further information regarding his medical condition and treatment was not immediately available. Authorities are expected to take further security measures in the area following the incident. The identities and motives of those involved in the attack have yet to be officially disclosed. The road clearance operation itself was being conducted in response to demands from residents who wanted the closed routes reopened. Such roads are important for the movement of local communities, particularly in areas where residents depend on road links for transportation and access to essential services. The incident has also raised concerns over the security challenges faced by personnel deployed to clear and reopen routes in areas where tensions or unrest may be present. Security officials have not yet provided details about whether any arrests have been made or whether the attackers were identified. It was also not immediately clear if the clearance operation would continue following the attack. The martyrdom of Sepoy Shahnawaz and the injury to Lance Naik Bilal underline the dangers faced by security personnel while carrying out operations intended to restore road access for civilians. Authorities are likely to assess the security situation before proceeding with further clearance activities. Meanwhile, efforts to restore normal movement on the affected road remain a key concern for local residents. Further developments are expected as authorities investigate the attack and determine the circumstances surrounding the sniper firing.

Secret Service probes alleged leak of JD Vance tra…

WASHINGTON: A member of US Vice President JD Vance’s security detail is under investigation over allegations that sensitive information related to the vice president’s travel arrangements was leaked to the media, raising concerns about security protocols surrounding one of the country’s highest-ranking officials. The US Secret Service confirmed on Friday that an administrative investigation is underway into the conduct of an officer assigned to Vance’s protective unit. Officials said the inquiry could potentially lead to a criminal investigation depending on the findings. Secret Service spokesperson Anthony Guglielmi said the agency takes any breach of operational security seriously and would not tolerate actions that could compromise the safety of protected government officials. “The Secret Service maintains strict standards regarding operational and informational security,” Guglielmi said in a statement. “Any violation of those standards is thoroughly reviewed and investigated.” The controversy emerged after a US media outlet published a report claiming that Vance had made several unusual requests involving his security team and travel arrangements. The report cited unnamed sources who alleged that some members of the vice president’s protective detail had expressed frustration over certain personal travel-related requests. One of the claims attracting significant attention involved an alleged proposal to use Marine Two, the official helicopter designated for the vice president, to transport Vance’s son to a secure golf course for golf lessons. According to the report, discussions about using the government aircraft for the trip were considered but never materialized. The proposed flight was ultimately canceled due to severe weather conditions, including thunderstorms that made flying unsafe. While the report has fueled debate in Washington, no evidence has been publicly presented showing that any rules were broken regarding the proposed transportation arrangements. The focus of the investigation currently remains on how details of the vice president’s security operations allegedly reached the media. The Office of the Vice President has not issued a detailed response to the report, and Vance’s team has so far declined to comment publicly on the allegations. Political analysts say the case highlights two sensitive issues often facing senior government officials: the appropriate use of official resources and the protection of confidential security information. Security experts warn that unauthorized disclosures about the travel plans or protective measures of top government leaders can create significant risks, even when the information appears routine. As investigators continue reviewing the matter, attention remains fixed on whether the alleged leak violated federal regulations and what consequences could follow if wrongdoing is confirmed. The findings could have broader implications for security procedures protecting senior US officials.

Mali junta pardons French national sentenced over alleged coup plot

Malian junta leader President Assimi Goïta has granted a presidential pardon to French national Yann Vezilier, who was serving a 20-year prison sentence following allegations of orchestrating a coup attempt against the military government. Vezilier was detained last year alongside several Malian military officers and political figures. Malian state officials announced that the clemency order includes Vezilier’s immediate deportation from Malian territory. The unexpected decision comes during a period of ongoing political instability and severe security challenges, with insurgent groups expanding blockades around key cities, including the capital, Bamako.
