Daring Heist in Phuket Mall: Thief Escapes with 600,000 Baht
Phuket –
Police in Phuket are hunting for a daring thief who staged a late-night robbery inside a well-known shopping mall in the city center, making off with approximately 600,000 baht in cash.
The Wichit Police told the Phuket Express that the suspect entered a retail store around 9:00 p.m. on Monday (July 20th) and calmly waited near the counter, monitoring activity outside. Once the area was clear, he slipped through the cashier’s payment slot and headed straight for the store’s safe. Surveillance footage shows the man removing bundles of cash before walking out through the front door and disappearing without a trace.
The suspect, described as resembling a foreign national (but possibly a Thai in disguise), was dressed in a long-sleeved sports shirt with white stripes, shorts, sneakers, and a cap. He wore gloves, sported a mustache, and concealed his face with white-rimmed glasses. His composed demeanor throughout the incident has raised suspicions that he may have had prior knowledge of the store’s layout or security system. Notably, police found no signs of forced entry on the safe.
Authorities are now reviewing CCTV footage from multiple points inside and outside the mall, while forensic teams examine the crime scene for additional evidence. Investigators are focusing on possible escape routes and individuals who may have assisted the suspect.
Police have pledged to pursue every lead to bring the suspect to justice, stating that all angles, including insider involvement, remain under active investigation.
