‘Do you teach humanity?’ CM Sohail grills cop

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi confronted a police officer after his security staff were stopped at the Supreme Court gate on Tuesday.

The incident occurred when an Islamabad police officer asked members of the chief minister’s security team to have their bags checked before entering the premises.

The staff initially attempted to proceed without getting the bags scanned. The police officer stopped them and insisted that the security check be completed.

The exchange between the police officer and the chief minister’s staff turned into a verbal argument. The situation caught the attention of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, who turned back after noticing the dispute.

Afridi then spoke directly to the police officer. During the conversation, the chief minister questioned whether police personnel were taught humanity during their training.

The police officer maintained that the security staff were required to have their bags checked. Following the officer’s insistence, the chief minister’s staff eventually complied and had their bags scanned.

The incident took place amid heightened security arrangements at the Supreme Court. Security personnel routinely check visitors, staff and belongings before allowing entry into sensitive government premises.

The brief confrontation ended after the required security screening was completed.

The minister also criticized what he described as governments formed through “manufactured mandates,” saying that true political legitimacy comes through public support.     Salman Khan faces court summons over jewellery business dispute

    Salman Khan and his sister Alvira Khan Agnihotri have been summoned by a Chandigarh court in connection with a legal dispute involving a Being Human jewellery showroom. The case stems from a complaint filed by Chandigarh-based businessman Arun Gupta, who alleged that he suffered significant financial losses after investing in a jewellery franchise associated with the Being Human brand. According to the complaint, Gupta invested nearly ₹3 crore to establish a Being Human jewellery showroom in Manimajra, Chandigarh, in 2018. He claimed that the agreement with Style and Content Jewellery Private Limited included assurances of business support, promotional assistance, and other commitments necessary for the successful operation of the showroom. Gupta stated that he fulfilled all the conditions outlined in the agreement and spent approximately ₹1 crore on setting up the outlet. However, he alleged that the promised support from the company never materialized, making it difficult for the business to operate effectively. He further claimed that the lack of assistance led to financial difficulties and eventually affected the showroom’s operations. The businessman also alleged that the jewellery store ceased operations in February 2020, disrupting the supply of products and causing substantial monetary losses. According to the complaint, the closure left him unable to continue business as planned, resulting in heavy financial damage. Another key allegation in the complaint relates to the showroom’s inauguration. Gupta claimed that he had been informed Salman Khan would personally inaugurate the outlet, which was expected to attract customers and generate publicity for the business. However, instead of the Bollywood superstar, the event was reportedly attended by Salman Khan’s brother-in-law, Aayush Sharma. The complaint names Salman Khan, Alvira Khan Agnihotri, and several others associated with Style and Content Jewellery Private Limited. After reviewing the matter, the Chandigarh court issued summons directing the accused to appear before it on October 5 for further proceedings. Meanwhile, Style and Content Jewellery Private Limited has strongly denied the allegations. The company maintained that Salman Khan had no direct involvement in the agreement signed with the Chandigarh businessman. It clarified that the Being Human brand had been licensed to the company by the Salman Khan Foundation in 2015, giving it the authority to manage and operate the jewellery business independently. The company further stated that all operational and commercial responsibilities related to the jewellery venture rested solely with Style and Content Jewellery Private Limited, not Salman Khan personally. The case will now proceed before the Chandigarh court, where the parties are expected to present their arguments when the matter comes up for hearing on October 5.

    PM orders digital overhaul of oil sector

    Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday directed the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) to implement a modern digital monitoring system across Pakistan’s oil and gas sector to improve transparency, eliminate hoarding and curb profiteering. The directive was issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the prime minister to review Ogra’s institutional reforms and measures aimed at strengthening the regulator’s performance. The prime minister said the government was committed to protecting public money and would not allow anyone to exploit consumers or manipulate the country’s energy system for personal gain. He instructed authorities to accelerate Ogra’s reform process and ensure that the government’s institutional reform agenda was implemented effectively across the organisation. Shehbaz Sharif also directed officials to develop a comprehensive digital tracking mechanism for fuel movement, using the Federal Board of Revenue’s modern tracking system as a model. He said the system should closely monitor the transportation of petroleum products from ports and refineries to fuel stations across the country. The prime minister stressed that digital oversight of the entire fuel supply chain would help improve transparency, reduce irregularities and strengthen regulatory enforcement. To improve Ogra’s institutional capacity, he called for the induction of qualified professionals from the private sector with strong reputations and relevant expertise. He also ordered the restructuring of the authority, saying appointments to all positions should be made through a transparent and merit-based process. Shehbaz Sharif assured officials that the federal government would provide all necessary professional and technical support to ensure the successful implementation of Ogra’s reform and restructuring programme. During the meeting, the Ogra chairman briefed participants on the regulator’s current performance, key challenges and the progress of its reform agenda. The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar, Petroleum Minister Musadik Malik, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal’s representative Ahad Cheema, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar, IT Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa and other senior government officials.
