Her representatives pointed to her Imagination Library, a nonprofit program that has distributed hundreds of millions of books to children.

Parton’s charitable legacy also extended to medical research. In April 2020, during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic, she donated $1 million to Vanderbilt University Medical Center after learning from a doctor friend that researchers needed additional funding for coronavirus studies. The contribution helped establish the Dolly Parton COVID-19 Research Fund, which provided early financial support for research that contributed to the development of the Moderna COVID-19 vaccine.

Her representatives described her generosity and compassion as central to the legacy she leaves behind. From encouraging children to read to supporting scientific research, Parton consistently used her success to make a difference in the lives of others.

The initial announcement of Parton’s death came through her official Instagram account. Her nephew and longtime head of security, Bryan Seaver, shared the heartbreaking news on behalf of the Parton and Owens families.

Seaver described Parton as his aunt and recalled the difficult responsibility of announcing her passing. He revealed that Parton had asked him years earlier to make such an announcement when the time came.

Seaver had worked as Parton’s head of security for more than two decades, following in the footsteps of his father, Larry. While acknowledging the sadness surrounding her death, he emphasized the pride and honor he felt in being part of her life and protecting her for so many years.

Dolly Parton’s remarkable career

Born on January 19, 1946, Parton grew up in a large family in Tennessee and developed a passion for music at a young age. She began performing on local radio and television programs as a child before building a professional career that would eventually make her one of the most recognizable figures in country music.

Parton released her debut studio album, Hello, I’m Dolly, in 1967. Over the following decades, she achieved enormous success as a singer and songwriter, earning 11 Grammy Awards and producing numerous enduring hits. He reportedly became unconscious during the physical activity. Police officials immediately arranged an ambulance to take him to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad. Ishaq was shifted to the hospital’s emergency department for medical assistance. However, doctors said that he had already died while being transported to the hospital. The young man could not be revived after reaching the medical facility. The incident occurred during the physical testing stage of the Islamabad Police recruitment process. The test requires candidates to take part in physical activities as part of the selection procedure. The sudden death of the young candidate has raised concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident. However, police have not yet provided further details about the exact cause of death. It was also not immediately clear whether Ishaq had any previous medical condition or whether he had undergone a medical examination before taking part in the physical test.     ISLAMABAD: Weekly inflation in Pakistan increased by 0.15% during the latest week, taking the overall annual inflation rate to 9.11%, according to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS). The statistics agency issued its weekly inflation report, showing mixed price trends for essential commodities. According to the report, prices of 20 essential items increased during the week, while nine items became cheaper. Prices of 22 commodities remained unchanged. Onion recorded the sharpest increase, with its price rising by 24.68% in one week. The price of gram lentils also increased by 3.35%. Chicken became 2.45% more expensive during the week. Prices of several other household essentials, including yogurt, garlic and tea, also recorded increases. The report showed that some major commodities became cheaper. Tomato prices declined by 1.26% during the week. Petroleum prices also decreased. Petrol became 2.35% cheaper, while diesel prices fell by 0.29%. The prices of sugar, eggs and potatoes also recorded declines during the week. The latest figures indicate continued fluctuations in the prices of essential commodities. While several food items became more expensive, reductions in petroleum prices and some food products provided some relief to consumers. The weekly inflation figures are closely monitored as they reflect short-term changes in the prices of goods commonly purchased by households. The annual inflation rate, meanwhile, provides a broader picture of price increases across the economy.

    Historic floods leave at least six dead in Indiana

    At least six people have died in the US state of Indiana after severe storms brought record-breaking rainfall and triggered widespread flooding. Authorities said several areas received more than 11 inches of rain over two days. The worst flooding was reported along the White River, stretching from Hamilton County towards the northern suburbs of Indianapolis. Several neighbourhoods were left under water. In Indianapolis, floodwaters submerged vehicles and reached residential properties. Some residents used kayaks and small boats to move through streets that had turned into waterways. The White River rose above 24 feet in Anderson and Noblesville. The level exceeded records set during the major flooding of 1913, highlighting the severity of the disaster. Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett declared a local emergency and urged people living near the river to leave their homes if authorities advised evacuation. Emergency officials described the flooding as an unprecedented event. Marion County Emergency Management director Jacob Spence said the scale of the disaster was unlike anything recently experienced in the area. Several counties reported storm-related deaths. One woman, aged 58, was found dead in Delaware County after apparently attempting to drive through floodwaters. Authorities also confirmed fatalities in Jennings, White, Porter and La Porte counties. Indiana Governor Mike Braun said he had spoken with US President Donald Trump about the disaster. He said a request for a federal emergency declaration was being processed to speed up assistance for affected communities. Braun expressed sympathy for the families who lost loved ones and urged residents to remain cautious. He warned people to stay away from flooded roads and fast-moving water.       MANSEHRA: Young people were encouraged to expand their perspectives, develop stronger social networks and turn their ideas into practical actions at the ninth annual Qalb Conference, held on August 8 and 9 at Sirin Resort in Naran. The two-day event was organised by the District Youth Office Mansehra in partnership with the Qalb Welfare Foundation under the Directorate of Youth Affairs, Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The conference brought together young people, volunteers, social workers and tourism enthusiasts from different parts of Pakistan to discuss youth leadership, community participation, volunteerism and the role of young people in the country’s social development. The conference was held under the theme “Explore, Connect, Change,” which encouraged participants to discover new opportunities, establish meaningful connections and contribute towards positive change in their communities. Adviser to the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Sports and Youth Affairs, Taj Muhammad Khan Tarand, attended the event as the chief guest. Chairman of the District Development Advisory Committee (D-DAC) Mansehra Ikramullah Ghazi, along with other officials and guests, also participated in the gathering. Speaking at the conference, Mr Tarand highlighted the importance of young people in the social and economic development of the province. The upcoming sequel, inspired by Alice Hoffman’s 2021 novel The Book of Magic, sees Joey King taking over the role of Kylie, while Maisie Williams has been cast as Antonia Owens, originally played by Alexandra Artrip.  Reflecting on the decision, Wood said she understood why the filmmakers may have chosen a different direction. She explained that after reading The Book of Magic, she felt the novel could have allowed her character to return. However, she acknowledged that the movie appears to be taking a different creative approach, making her involvement less likely.  Despite understanding the creative changes, the actress admitted the experience has been emotional. She said what hurts the most is missing the opportunity to reunite with the original cast and revisit the iconic house where much of the film was shot. According to Wood, those shared childhood memories are impossible to recreate and would have been meaningful not only for the actors but also for longtime fans of the beloved fantasy film.  This is not the first time Wood has spoken about the sequel. In 2025, she revealed on social media that she had offered to return “even for one scene or one line,” but was informed that the roles were being recast. She emphasized that the decision was entirely out of her hands and said she would have happily returned if given the opportunity.  Even so, Wood made it clear that she holds no ill will toward the production. She wished Joey King the very best in taking over the role and expressed hope that the new cast enjoys the same magical experience she had while filming the original movie nearly three decades ago.  Practical Magic 2 will reunite original stars Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman alongside returning cast members Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest.
