Duchess Sophie takes on new royal patronage supporting military veterans

Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, has taken on another important royal responsibility after being confirmed as the new royal patron of the Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team (AFPST). The appointment highlights her  growing investment in supporting wounded, injured and sick military personnel, as well as veterans who are rebuilding their lives after service.

The announcement was made during Sophie’s recent visit to the Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead, where she met members of the organisation and learned more about its work. The engagement also marked her first official appearance in her new role as patron.

The Armed Forces Para-Snowsport Team is dedicated to helping wounded, injured and sick members of the armed forces and veterans through adaptive skiing, snowboarding and Nordic sports. The organisation uses sport not only as a form of physical activity but also as a way to help participants regain confidence, develop new skills and build a strong sense of community.

During her visit, Sophie was welcomed by Elizabeth Winfield, the organisation’s chief operating officer. Winfield introduced the Duchess to the charity’s programmes and explained how the team supports military personnel and veterans through its various sporting activities.

Following Sophie’s visit, Winfield described the Duchess’s appointment as a significant moment for the organisation. She said the royal patronage would strengthen AFPST’s ability to expand its work, reach more veterans and continue delivering programmes designed to have a meaningful impact on the lives of participants.

She also highlighted the importance of Sophie meeting athletes in person, saying that her presence could provide greater visibility to their achievements and resilience. The organisation believes that increased awareness can help demonstrate the importance of adaptive sports programmes and the role they play in supporting veterans.

Sophie’s new patronage has also drawn comparisons with the work of Prince Harry, particularly his involvement with the Invictus Games. Founded by Harry, the international sporting event provides wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans with an opportunity to compete in adaptive sports while promoting recovery, rehabilitation and community.

The Invictus Games are scheduled to return to Birmingham, England, in July 2027. The upcoming event will bring together competitors from different countries and once again place the achievements of military veterans and wounded service personnel in the international spotlight.

While Sophie’s role with AFPST is separate from the Invictus Games, both initiatives share a similar emphasis on using sport to support members of the armed forces community. Her new position could therefore create an interesting connection between the Duchess’s growing work in this area and Harry’s long-standing commitment to the Invictus movement.

Sophie’s involvement may also open the possibility of her attending future Invictus Games events, particularly as the royal family continues to take on different responsibilities supporting veterans and serving military personnel.

For now, her appointment gives AFPST a prominent new supporter and brings additional attention to adaptive winter sports. It also marks another step in Sophie’s expanding royal portfolio, particularly in areas focused on service, resilience, rehabilitation and the wellbeing of the armed forces community.

Forensic probe advances Momina Iqbal case

New developments have been reported in the ongoing case involving actor Momina Iqbal and PML-N lawmaker Saqib Chadhar. Momina recently shared a post on social media suggesting that forensic evidence has strengthened her case. She described the latest progress as another step toward justice. The case is being investigated by the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA). It involves allegations of cyber harassment, intimidation and threats. Momina had approached the authorities after accusing Saqib Chadhar and his wife, Samira Chadhar, of harassment and other alleged offences. During the latest court proceedings, the investigation officer informed the Lahore sessions court that the investigation involving Saqib Chadhar had been completed. The officer also told the court that Samira Chadhar had submitted her mobile phone to the NCCIA. The device is reportedly being examined as part of the forensic investigation. Momina’s lawyer, Adnan Ahsan, asked the court to withdraw the interim bail granted to the accused. He argued that allowing them to remain free could pose a security concern for the actor. The investigation has focused heavily on digital evidence. Mobile phones and other electronic material have been examined as authorities work to establish the facts surrounding the allegations. The dispute became a legal matter after Momina accused the couple of harassment and threats. The allegations reportedly include cyber harassment, stalking, intimidation and blackmail. The accused have denied the allegations and obtained interim pre-arrest bail while the legal proceedings continue. Momina’s latest statement has drawn attention to the progress of the investigation. However, her reference to the accused being “proven guilty” reflects her position and does not constitute a final judicial verdict. The court will ultimately determine the legal status of the allegations after considering the investigation and evidence presented before it. The forensic examination of digital devices remains an important part of the case. Investigators are expected to assess the material recovered during the probe before the matter proceeds further.

Paris Jackson recalls first meeting mother Debbie Rowe

Paris Jackson has shared rare details about meeting her biological mother, Debbie Rowe, for the first time when she was 15, offering a glimpse into how their relationship gradually developed over the years. The 28-year-old model and actress discussed her family life during a recent appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast. She explained that she first became curious about her biological mother when she was around 10 or 11 years old. At the time, Paris said she simply asked for her mother’s name and was satisfied with the answer she received. She eventually reconnected with Rowe at around 15 and said the two began growing closer toward the end of her teenage years. Recalling their first meeting, Paris said the encounter was surprisingly relaxed. She remembered coming downstairs to find Rowe in the living room with her grandmother. Rather than feeling overwhelmed or uncomfortable, Paris simply greeted her mother and sat down to talk. The pair later went out together and spent the day getting to know each other. Paris also reflected on her approach to relationships, saying that having too many expectations can sometimes make personal connections more difficult. She explained that entering a relationship with an open mind gives people the opportunity to develop a bond naturally instead of forcing it to meet a particular idea of how things should be. She described this approach as creating space for something genuine and organic to grow. Paris is the daughter of the late pop icon Michael Jackson and Debbie Rowe. The former couple also share their eldest son, Prince Jackson. Michael’s youngest child, Bigi Jackson, was born through a surrogate. Rowe met Michael while working as an assistant at the dermatologist’s office he visited. The pair married in 1996, but their relationship was short-lived, and they divorced in 2000. Michael Jackson subsequently received full custody of their children. Following the divorce, Rowe largely stepped away from the public spotlight and moved to Palmdale, California, where she reportedly pursued her interest in horse breeding and maintained a private lifestyle. Paris and Rowe began rebuilding their relationship in 2013. Their connection became particularly close several years later when Paris supported her mother during her battle with breast cancer in 2016. Looking back on their relationship, Paris’ comments suggest that their bond developed gradually rather than being shaped by expectations. Her willingness to approach the relationship openly appears to have helped her and Rowe establish a closer connection after years apart. Her latest revelations offer a rare look into the personal relationship between the mother and daughter, while also highlighting Paris’ perspective on family, expectations and allowing relationships to develop naturally.

Cynthia Erivo pays sweet tribute to Ariana Grande …

Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande have once again reminded fans why their friendship remains one of the most beloved bonds to come out of Wicked. The longtime co-stars reunited onstage in London, creating an emotional moment that quickly became one of the highlights of Grande’s Eternal Sunshine Tour.  On August 16, Erivo surprised fans at London’s O2 Arena when she joined Grande during the second night of the singer’s London shows. The pair performed “For Good,” the emotional Wicked song that has become closely associated with their characters, Elphaba and Glinda. They also treated the audience to the “Get Happy/Happy Days Are Here Again” medley.  The reunion was especially meaningful because it marked their first live performance together since the 2025 television special Wicked: One Wonderful Night. Their return to the stage together brought back memories of their years working on the two Wicked movies and the friendship they developed away from the spotlight.  Erivo has previously spoken warmly about singing with Grande, describing her as one of the few people she genuinely loves performing alongside. She explained that she does not often want to sing with other people, but Grande is different because their voices and energy naturally complement one another.  That affection was clear during their London reunion. The two stars embraced onstage, while Grande was also seen kissing Erivo’s hand, adding another tender moment to the performance. Their chemistry once again reminded audiences of the special connection they built while bringing Elphaba and Glinda to life.  Their friendship has faced plenty of public speculation over the years. However, Erivo has repeatedly made it clear that their bond is genuine. In a 2026 interview, she discussed how people struggled to understand the closeness between two women and emphasized that deep, platonic female friendships are real.  The London reunion therefore felt like more than just another surprise concert appearance. It was a celebration of music, friendship and the lasting impact of Wicked. For fans who have followed Erivo and Grande since the beginning of their journey as Elphaba and Glinda, seeing them share the stage again was a particularly touching reminder that their connection continues long after the cameras stop rolling.

Camila Mendes breaks silence on eating disorder an…

Camila Mendes is opening up about one of the most difficult periods of her life, revealing that the intense pressure she experienced while filming the first season of Riverdale contributed to an eating disorder relapse and frequent panic attacks. The actress shared her emotional story during a recent appearance on the On Purpose with Jay Shetty podcast, where she reflected on the challenges of navigating fame at a young age.  Mendes, 32, explained that her struggle was fueled by perfectionism and the constant pressure to look flawless on camera. She admitted that she felt she had to be at her best every single day, both in terms of her performance and appearance, leaving little room for mistakes or emotional vulnerability. Those expectations, she said, intensified body image issues that had first developed during her high school years.  The Riverdale star recalled watching episodes of the show and becoming overly critical of her appearance. She said she would focus on perceived flaws instead of appreciating her work, which only worsened her unhealthy relationship with food and her body. Mendes described feeling “disgusting” on camera at times, admitting that the relentless self-criticism played a major role in triggering her eating disorder.  Alongside the eating disorder, Mendes revealed that she also experienced panic attacks while working on the hit CW series. She explained that the demanding filming schedule often left her with little time to process her emotions. Whenever she felt overwhelmed, she struggled to express what she was going through because she did not want to delay production or let the cast and crew down.  As the pressure mounted, Mendes was eventually prescribed anti-anxiety medication to help her cope. Looking back, she admitted that while the medication helped her continue working, it also left her feeling emotionally numb. She now believes it was a temporary solution rather than a long-term answer to what she was experiencing.  Despite the difficult memories, Mendes emphasized that she does not view her Riverdale journey negatively. She said she still treasures many experiences from the seven-season series and remains grateful for the opportunities it gave her. However, she acknowledged that being in her early 20s and having little control over her schedule made the experience far more challenging than it might have been later in life.  Today, Mendes says she has developed a healthier relationship with herself by prioritizing mental well-being over perfection. By sharing her story, she hopes others facing similar struggles understand they are not alone and that recovery is possible. Her candid reflections also highlight the hidden pressures that many young actors face behind the scenes, reminding fans that even successful stars can quietly battle anxiety, self-doubt and body image issues while pursuing their dreams.
