Fatima Sana joins Vancouver Anchors for Canada Super 60

Pakistan women’s cricket team captain Fatima Sana has been signed by the Vancouver Anchors for the 2026 edition of the Canada Super 60, adding another milestone to her rapidly growing international career.

The tournament is scheduled to take place from September 29 to October 4, with franchises strengthening their squads by recruiting some of the world’s top cricketing talent. The Vancouver Anchors confirmed Sana’s signing through their official social media platforms, welcoming the 24-year-old bowling all-rounder as one of the team’s marquee players.

Announcing the signing, the franchise expressed excitement over adding the Pakistan skipper to its squad, saying she is ready to make a strong impact for the team during the upcoming season.

The announcement comes at a significant moment in Sana’s career as she is also set to make history by becoming the first Pakistan women’s cricketer to feature in The Hundred. She is expected to make her debut for Birmingham Phoenix in their opening match against Southern Brave in Southampton.

Sana joined Birmingham Phoenix after replacing Australia’s Lucy Hamilton, who withdrew from the tournament as part of Cricket Australia’s workload management plan. As the replacement overseas player, Sana will receive the tournament’s minimum salary of £15,000.

Her selection for both franchise tournaments reflects her growing reputation as one of Pakistan’s most promising all-round cricketers. Known for her ability to contribute with both bat and ball, Sana has consistently delivered important performances for her national side across international competitions.

The Pakistan captain heads into these tournaments with impressive form following her standout performance at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026. In Pakistan’s closely contested match against South Africa, Sana produced an outstanding all-round display despite her team’s narrow defeat.

Batting under pressure, she remained unbeaten on 55 from just 38 deliveries, helping Pakistan post a competitive total. She then impressed with the ball, claiming three wickets while conceding only 16 runs in her spell. Although South Africa eventually secured a tense two-wicket victory, Sana’s performance earned widespread praise and highlighted her ability to perform on the biggest stage.

Her recent performances have further strengthened her reputation in international cricket and attracted interest from franchise teams around the world. The opportunity to compete in tournaments such as The Hundred and the Canada Super 60 will provide Sana with valuable experience alongside some of the world’s leading players.

Sana is also among three Pakistani cricketers who have secured contracts in this year’s edition of The Hundred. She joins fellow Pakistan player Usman Tariq, who will also represent Birmingham Phoenix, while mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed was signed by Sunrisers Leeds for £190,000 during the tournament’s player draft earlier this year.

With opportunities in multiple franchise leagues and consistent performances at the international level, Fatima Sana continues to establish herself as one of Pakistan’s brightest cricket stars. Her latest signing with the Vancouver Anchors marks another important step in her career as she prepares for a busy and exciting season on the global stage.

Kangana Ranaut’s viral NEET claim dismissed as fake

Actor and politician Kangana Ranaut has once again found herself at the center of online discussions after a viral post falsely claimed that she had requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to appoint her as India’s Education Minister. The statement quickly spread across social media platforms, leading many users to believe it was genuine because it closely resembled Kangana’s usual writing style. However, the viral quote is fabricated and was never shared by the actress. According to the fake post, Kangana allegedly said she understood the importance of education and wanted to become the country’s Education Minister. The message also included a satirical proposal related to the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), claiming that students who watched her films in theatres would receive extra marks in the medical entrance examination. The fabricated statement read that she wanted to be appointed Education Minister because she was “the first person to show people the truth that India attained independence in 2014.” It further joked that awarding additional NEET marks to students who watched her movies would help end her string of box-office flops while also benefiting students. The post gained significant attention online, with many users sharing screenshots and commenting on the supposed remarks. Some believed the statement was authentic due to its resemblance to Kangana’s outspoken social media posts, while others questioned whether it had been created as satire. Despite its widespread circulation, the claim has been confirmed to be false. Kangana did not make the statement, nor did she post it on any of her verified social media accounts, including Instagram. There is no evidence that she requested to become India’s Education Minister or proposed any changes to the NEET examination in the manner described. The viral message appears to have been carefully crafted to imitate Kangana’s distinctive online tone, making it convincing enough to mislead many social media users. Such edited or fabricated posts often spread rapidly, particularly when they involve well-known public figures and controversial topics. The incident serves as another reminder of how quickly misinformation can circulate online. Experts frequently advise users to verify viral claims by checking official social media accounts or credible sources before sharing them further. Kangana, known for expressing her views on political and social issues, has often made headlines for her outspoken opinions. However, in this case, the viral statement circulating online has no factual basis and should not be treated as a genuine comment from the actress. As the post continues to be shared across various platforms, social media users are being urged to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of viral content before accepting it as true. The claim about Kangana Ranaut seeking the Education Minister’s post and offering extra NEET marks to students who watch her films is entirely false.

Hafiz Naeem targets IPP deals, fuel prices

Jamaat-e-Islami Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has strongly criticised the government over rising fuel prices, heavy taxation and electricity costs. Addressing participants at the party’s sit-in in Lahore, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said the government was putting an increasing financial burden on ordinary citizens. He demanded the immediate withdrawal of the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices. He said the petroleum levy had no direct connection with the actual price of petrol. He questioned the justification for repeatedly increasing fuel prices and said the government was making life more difficult for the public. “The government drops a petrol bomb on us every day,” he said. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman also criticised the government’s policies regarding independent power producers (IPPs). He alleged that successive governments had entered into unfair agreements with IPPs in the name of ending load-shedding. According to him, the government was now passing the cost of its own shortcomings on to the people through higher taxes. He said citizens were already struggling with expensive electricity and gas bills. The Jamaat-e-Islami leader said heavy taxes were being imposed on electricity and gas bills. He argued that such charges were increasing household expenses and adding to the difficulties faced by ordinary consumers. Hafiz Naeemur Rehman further said the government had shut down five of the 27 IPPs. He referred to the government’s own claim that the move would provide a benefit of Rs3,360 billion to the national exchequer. He questioned why similar measures could not be taken to provide lasting relief to consumers. He said the government should focus on reducing electricity costs instead of continuously increasing taxes and other charges. The Jamaat-e-Islami emir also criticised the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR). He alleged that corruption within the tax collection system remained widespread. He called for greater transparency and accountability in government institutions. He said economic policies should be designed to provide relief to the public rather than increase their financial difficulties.

Fatima Zehra says better facilities could have earned gold

Pakistan’s trailblazing boxer Fatima Zehra believes she had the potential to win a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games if she had access to the same level of training facilities and international exposure as many of her competitors. The 22-year-old made history by becoming the first Pakistani woman to win a boxing medal at the Commonwealth Games after claiming bronze in the women’s 60kg category. Although she narrowly missed out on a place in the final, Fatima described the achievement as a proud moment for herself and for Pakistan. Reflecting on her campaign, Fatima said her main objective before the tournament was to secure a medal, while also hoping to progress to the final. She admitted that the competition was extremely challenging, with many of her opponents benefiting from extensive international training and experience. Her journey ended in the semi-finals, where she faced Canada’s Marie-Bathoul Al-Ahmadieh. Fatima acknowledged that her opponent’s speed and international experience proved decisive, making it difficult to overcome the challenge. Despite the defeat, she expressed satisfaction with her bronze medal, saying it was earned against some of the strongest boxers in the competition. She also noted that competing at such a high level allowed her to gain valuable experience by observing other elite athletes and learning from every bout. Fatima highlighted the gap between Pakistan’s sporting infrastructure and that of leading boxing nations. She pointed out that several countries, including regional rivals, organized overseas training camps in the United States before the Games, while Pakistan’s preparations took place entirely at home. According to Fatima, world-class coaching facilities, modern training environments, and regular international competition are essential if Pakistani athletes are to consistently challenge for top honors on the global stage. She believes greater government investment in sports development would significantly improve the country’s chances of success. The young boxer also acknowledged the role played by the Pakistan Army, the Pakistan Boxing Federation, and her coach, Raheel Adnan, crediting them for their guidance and support throughout her preparation. She said their encouragement was instrumental in helping her achieve the historic milestone. Looking ahead, Fatima has already shifted her focus to the upcoming Asian Games, which are scheduled to take place in Japan in September. She hopes the experience gained at the Commonwealth Games will strengthen her performances against Asia’s top competitors. Fatima previously won a bronze medal at the 2025 Islamic Games in Saudi Arabia, and she is determined to build on that success by aiming for an even stronger finish at the Asian Games. Her boxing journey has not been without challenges. She revealed that although boxing now runs in her family, her parents initially opposed her decision to pursue the sport. After competing at the Punjab level, she was forced to step away from boxing because of her family’s concerns. However, her coach Raheel Adnan convinced them to give her another opportunity, a decision that ultimately changed her career. Today, her family fully supports her ambitions, and her two sisters, Dua and Aiman, along with her younger brother Naday Ali, have also taken up boxing. Fatima secured her historic Commonwealth Games bronze after defeating New Zealand’s Jordan Wilson by a unanimous 5-0 decision in the quarter-finals. Under tournament rules, both losing semi-finalists were awarded bronze medals, marking a landmark achievement for women’s boxing in Pakistan.

Shagufta Ejaz on reason for becoming a YouTuber

Shagufta Ejaz has been a constant presence in Pakistani television since the PTV era, building a career that has spanned decades and generations of audiences. From her earliest roles in the golden age of state television to her continued prominence in contemporary drama, she has remained one of the industry’s most beloved and respected figures. In recent years, however, she has added an entirely new dimension to her public presence, stepping into the world of digital content creation and building a YouTube channel that has resonated with fans for its warmth, authenticity and the glimpses it offers of her family life. Appearing as a guest on Star and Style, Shagufta Ejaz spoke about what prompted her to make that shift, and the answer was a family connection rather than a professional calculation. The inspiration behind her YouTube journey was her son-in-law, Ali Hamza Baloch, who was already an established daily vlogger before she started her own channel. Shagufta explained that watching him work gave her a firsthand look at what the medium was capable of. She saw how deeply his audience connected with him, how his viewers followed his daily life and felt genuinely close to him through the screen, and something about that connection appealed to her. It was the kind of relationship with an audience that felt personal and immediate in a way that drama, for all its reach, does not always allow. With his help, she launched her own channel, and the early days of the venture were a family effort in more ways than one. Her children stepped in to handle the editing at the beginning, helping her find her footing in a format that operates very differently from the structured, scripted world of television production. Over time, however, she took ownership of the process herself and now edits her own videos, a progression that reflects both her growing comfort with the medium and her characteristic commitment to doing things properly. The content she produces has found a genuine audience. Fans have responded warmly to the homely, unpolished quality of her videos, which feature her family, her daily life and the kind of natural, unguarded moments that would never make it into a drama production. For an actress who has spent her career embodying carefully crafted characters, the channel offers something entirely different: just Shagufta Ejaz, being herself. It is a quality that her audience clearly values, and one that speaks to why she has remained relevant across so many years and so many changes in the entertainment landscape. Whether she is performing a complex character on screen or talking to her camera at home, the authenticity that has always defined her work comes through in exactly the same way.
