Four K-P Heritage sites added to UNESCO tentative list

PESHAWAR: Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa has gained further international recognition for its cultural and historical heritage after four important sites from the province were included in the UNESCO World Heritage Centre’s Tentative List.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Information and Public Relations Minister Shafi Jan described the development as a significant achievement for the provincial government, saying the recognition would help draw international attention to the province’s diverse archaeological, architectural and cultural legacy.

The sites added to the tentative list include Bhamaala in Haripur, Sethi House and Gor Gathri in Peshawar, and Barikot in Swat.

According to the minister, the inclusion of these locations on the UNESCO list would provide greater international visibility to K-P’s historic sites and highlight their importance as part of the region’s rich cultural heritage.

Recognition of K-P’s historical legacy

Shafi Jan said Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa possessed a heritage that reflected centuries of civilisation, cultural interaction and historical development.

He noted that the newly listed sites represented different aspects of the province’s past, ranging from archaeological remains to historic buildings and urban heritage.

The minister said the addition of the four sites was not only a source of pride for Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa but could also contribute to efforts aimed at preserving the province’s heritage for future generations.

He said the provincial government was committed to protecting historical locations from deterioration and ensuring that their cultural significance was properly documented and promoted.

Focus on preservation and promotion

Shafi Jan said the government was working to strengthen measures for the preservation, restoration and promotion of historical and archaeological sites across the province.

He emphasised that cultural heritage should be viewed as a valuable national and provincial asset rather than simply as remnants of the past.

“Our rich cultural heritage is our pride and a trust for future generations,” he said, stressing the need for sustained efforts to protect historic sites.

The minister added that the provincial government wanted to improve the visibility of K-P’s heritage at both national and international levels.

Potential for cultural tourism

The inclusion of the sites on UNESCO’s Tentative List could also provide an opportunity to promote cultural tourism in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

The province is home to numerous archaeological and historical locations associated with different periods and civilisations. Greater international recognition could help attract researchers, historians, archaeologists and tourists interested in the region’s history.

Officials believe that improved preservation and promotion of these sites could also support local economies by creating opportunities for tourism-related businesses and services.

However, greater recognition also places additional responsibility on authorities to ensure that the sites are properly protected, maintained and presented to visitors.

Government commitment

The minister said the provincial administration, under the vision of founding chairman Imran Khan and the leadership of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi, would continue efforts to preserve and promote Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s cultural assets.

He maintained that protecting historical sites required long-term planning, proper conservation measures and cooperation between government institutions, heritage experts and local communities.

The latest additions to the UNESCO Tentative List have therefore been welcomed by the provincial government as an important step towards placing K-P’s historical heritage on the international cultural map.

Diddy’s prison release date moved forward again …

Sean “Diddy” Combs is now expected to be released from federal prison sooner than previously anticipated after his projected release date was moved forward once again. The latest update marks the second adjustment in just over a month, reducing the amount of time the music mogul is expected to spend behind bars while his legal appeal remains ongoing.  According to updated records from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Prisons, Combs is now scheduled to be released on February 23, 2028, replacing the previous projected date of April 15, 2028. Earlier this year, his expected release had already been moved up from April 25, 2028, which itself followed an earlier projected date of June 4, 2028. The repeated revisions have drawn renewed public attention to the rapper’s sentence and the federal prison system’s administrative calculations.  The 56-year-old music executive is currently serving a 50-month federal prison sentence at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI) Fort Dix in New Jersey. In 2025, a jury found Combs guilty on two counts of transportation to engage in prostitution. However, he was acquitted of the more serious charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking. The court also imposed a $500,000 fine and a period of supervised release following the completion of his prison sentence.  Federal officials have not publicly explained why Combs’ projected release date has been revised multiple times. Reports suggest the adjustments could be linked to standard Bureau of Prisons sentence calculations and participation in rehabilitation programs available to eligible inmates. However, prison authorities have not confirmed a specific reason for the latest change.  Meanwhile, Combs’ legal team continues to challenge his conviction. His attorneys have filed an appeal, arguing that his sentence was excessive and seeking either a new trial or a reduced sentence. The appeal remains pending, meaning the current release date could still change depending on future court decisions or administrative reviews.  The revised release timeline comes just days after reports emerged that Combs had been placed in solitary confinement following an altercation with another inmate at FCI Fort Dix. According to media reports, prison staff quickly intervened and separated those involved. It remains unclear whether the incident will have any impact on his projected release date or prison status.  Although the updated release date brings Combs one step closer to freedom, his legal troubles are far from over. Beyond the ongoing appeal, he continues to face multiple civil lawsuits alleging sexual misconduct, all of which he has denied. For now, February 23, 2028, remains the official projected release date listed by the Federal Bureau of Prisons, though future legal or administrative developments could alter that timeline.

Dr Omer Adil calls Bushra Ansari’s husband a gold digger

Dr Omer Adil is no stranger to controversy, and his latest appearance on Dr Ruby Malik’s podcast has once again put him at the centre of a heated public debate. The host and YouTuber, who has built a reputation for speaking about celebrities with unusual bluntness, turned his attention this time to the husbands of wealthy and famous women, naming Bushra Ansari’s second husband as a specific example of what he described as a deeply troubling dynamic. Dr Omer Adil framed his argument by first reaching back to a conversation he once had with the late legendary singer Madam Noor Jehan, who had told him that her throat was effectively her husband, her most prized possession, the one thing that had sustained her family throughout her life. He used this anecdote as a springboard to make a broader point about the particular vulnerability of women whose talent generates significant wealth. His central argument was this: when a woman earns abundantly because of her extraordinary ability, she does not always attract people who genuinely love her. Instead, she attracts those who are drawn to what she has built. In his characterisation, these are not family members but leeches, people who attach themselves to a successful woman and remain there, draining her resources until there is nothing left. He then named Bushra Ansari directly as an example, directing his sharpest remarks toward her second husband, Iqbal Hussain. His objection was rooted in what he saw as a fundamental inversion of the role a husband should play. He questioned how a man could sit at home, making no visible financial contribution to the household, while his wife continues to work and support the family. The image he painted, of a man with a large beard sitting idle while Bushra Ansari carries the professional and financial weight of the marriage, was delivered as a pointed indictment rather than a neutral observation. This is not the first time Dr Omer Adil has publicly expressed his discomfort with Bushra Ansari’s second marriage. He has previously aired his opinions about the relationship on multiple occasions, and each time has done so without walking back his criticism. His willingness to name celebrities specifically and speak about their private lives in such direct terms is what has both earned him a loyal digital audience and placed him at the centre of repeated controversies. Bushra Ansari’s husband Iqbal Hussain had previously appeared in public alongside her and defended their relationship, pushing back against the age-gap criticism the marriage drew. He described the criticism as reflecting double standards and expressed deep admiration and support for his wife. The remarks by Dr Omer Adil have once again reignited debate about who has the right to comment on the private choices of public figures, and whether the kind of blunt, personal commentary he delivers crosses a line between honest observation and unwarranted intrusion into someone else’s marriage.

The couple confirmed the marriage on August 11, 2026, through a post on Ronaldo’s Instagram account. The image showed two hands wearing wedding rings, with one hand resting over the other. The announcement quickly attracted millions of likes and widespread reactions from fans around the world. According to Portuguese media reports, Ronaldo and Rodríguez exchanged vows in a private civil ceremony in Cascais, a coastal town near Lisbon. The couple reportedly kept the celebration away from the public eye and limited the gathering to close family members. Their five children were present at the ceremony. Ronaldo’s eldest son, Cristiano Jr., as well as twins Eva and Mateo, Alana Martina and Bella Esmeralda, were part of the family celebration. The wedding also carried special significance because it took place exactly one year after Rodríguez announced their engagement. On August 11, 2025, she shared a photograph of her engagement ring and confirmed that she had accepted Ronaldo’s proposal. Ronaldo and Rodríguez first met in Madrid in 2016, when Rodríguez was working at a Gucci store. Ronaldo was playing for Real Madrid at the time. Their relationship gradually became public, and they soon emerged as one of the most recognised celebrity couples in the sporting world. Over the years, Rodríguez has accompanied Ronaldo during major stages of his football career, including his moves from Spain to Italy, England and Saudi Arabia. At the same time, she developed her own career in modelling, fashion and entertainment. The couple’s relationship has also been closely followed through Rodríguez’s Netflix reality series, I Am Georgina, which has offered audiences a glimpse into their family life and international lifestyle. Their marriage announcement came shortly after false rumours circulated that the pair were preparing to marry in Madeira. On August 8, crowds of fans and photographers reportedly gathered near Funchal Cathedral after social media speculation suggested that Ronaldo and Rodríguez were holding their wedding there. The event turned out to be the wedding of another couple. Ronaldo, 41, remains one of football’s most decorated players. He has won the Ballon d’Or five times and has represented Sporting, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus and Al-Nassr, while also captaining Portugal. The Portuguese star has scored close to 1,000 career goals and recently appeared at his sixth World Cup, further extending his record-setting international career.

Justice Babar Sattar told to vacate official house

Justice Babar Sattar has been directed to vacate his official residence in Islamabad after the cancellation of its government allotment following his transfer to the Peshawar High Court. According to an official notice issued by the Registrar of the Islamabad High Court, Justice Sattar has been given 30 days to hand over the residence. The notice states that the Estate Office cancelled the allotment of the government house on July 3 after his transfer from the Islamabad High Court to the Peshawar High Court. The document explains that the one-month notice period began on July 3, the same day the official accommodation was withdrawn. Justice Sattar has been instructed to vacate the residence within that period in accordance with government rules governing official housing for judges transferred to another high court. The move follows Justice Sattar’s transfer to the Peshawar High Court, where he is expected to perform his judicial duties after leaving the Islamabad High Court. Sources familiar with the matter said that after the transfer, Justice Sattar did not apply for or obtain an official residence in Peshawar. Instead, he reportedly decided to continue staying in the government house allotted to him in Islamabad. The notice highlights that the cancellation of the residence allotment was carried out by the Estate Office, making the continued occupation of the house subject to the expiry of the notice period. The registrar’s office formally communicated the decision to ensure compliance with the applicable administrative procedures. The development comes as part of the routine administrative process that follows the transfer of judges between high courts. Under the existing rules, official accommodation is generally linked to the judge’s place of posting, and transferred judges are required to vacate residences allocated at their previous station once the prescribed notice period expires.
