Fans tuning in to Live with Kelly and Mark this week quickly noticed that Kelly Ripa was absent from her usual spot beside husband and co-host Mark Consuelos. Addressing viewers at the start of the show, Consuelos explained that Ripa is taking time off to recover from a painful gum graft surgery and is following strict medical advice as she heals.  Opening Monday’s episode alongside guest co-host Kevin Jonas, Consuelos reassured fans that Ripa is doing well despite the discomfort. “Kelly sends her love,” he said before revealing that she had recently undergone the dental procedure. He added that doctors have instructed her not to talk during her recovery, making it impossible for her to return to the show until she has healed properly.  According to Consuelos, Ripa’s dentist first recommended the surgery nearly five years ago. At the time, she decided to postpone it, joking that she did not think she would still be hosting the daytime talk show years later. Now, with the procedure finally behind her, she is focused on following every instruction to ensure a smooth recovery.  Although Ripa is known for having an exceptionally high tolerance for pain, Consuelos admitted that this surgery has been especially challenging for her. He shared that she has been limited to soft foods and has even been warned not to inspect the surgical area while it heals. The television host also joked that staying quiet might be the hardest part for his famously talkative wife.  With Ripa temporarily sidelined, Live with Kelly and Mark has welcomed a lineup of celebrity guest hosts. Kevin Jonas stepped in to co-host the first episodes of the week, while Mila Kunis, Pamela Adlon and Scott Foley are also scheduled to appear alongside Consuelos during Ripa’s absence. The rotating guest hosts will keep the show running until she is ready to return.  A gum graft is a common dental procedure used to treat receding gums by attaching healthy gum tissue to areas where it has thinned. While the surgery helps protect teeth and improve long-term oral health, recovery can take one to two weeks and often requires patients to avoid talking, strenuous activity and certain foods.  For now, Ripa is expected to remain off the air for about a week while she continues healing at home. Consuelos assured viewers that she appreciates all the well wishes and looks forward to returning once she has fully recovered. Until then, fans can expect her husband to keep them updated while steering the show with a series of special guest co-hosts.

The two women reflected on their own cosmetic procedures and shared why transparency matters, especially for younger generations who often compare themselves to celebrities online.  During the conversation, Bunnie Xo passionately criticized public figures who claim their youthful appearance comes only from skincare products or healthy habits. Richards agreed, saying she dislikes when people refuse to admit they have had cosmetic work while allowing others to believe their results are completely natural. She explained that such claims create unrealistic expectations for women and girls who may feel pressured to look the same.  Richards also opened up about her own experience with plastic surgery, revealing that she underwent a facelift after initially considering only a neck lift. Following discussions with a trusted friend and consultation with facial plastic surgeon Dr. Ben Talei, she decided a full procedure would create a more balanced result. The surgery included a facelift, neck lift, brow lift, eyelid surgery, lip lift and fat grafting.  The 55-year-old actress admitted she was terrified before going through with the operation because she has spent decades in the public eye. She knew people would notice the changes, making it impossible to hide the procedure. However, she now describes it as one of the best decisions she has made for herself, saying the goal was never to look like someone else but simply to restore the features she felt had changed with age.  Richards has long been candid about cosmetic enhancements. She previously spoke about getting breast implants at a young age and later needing revision surgery. She said she prefers openness over secrecy because it helps reduce the pressure placed on women to achieve impossible beauty standards without assistance.  Throughout the interview, Richards stressed that every woman should have the freedom to make personal choices about her appearance without fear of judgment. Whether someone decides to age naturally or undergo cosmetic procedures, she believes the decision should be respected. For Richards, the real issue is not plastic surgery itself but the dishonesty surrounding it.
