Samay Raina reacts after India’s Got Latent episode leak

Comedian Samay Raina has appealed to fans to support creators through official platforms after a members-only bonus episode of India’s Got Latent Season 2 was leaked online just hours after its release.

The exclusive episode, which was made available only to paid YouTube members, reportedly surfaced on multiple unauthorized platforms shortly after it went live. Clips from the show, as well as the complete episode, quickly spread across social media and file-sharing websites, allowing many users to watch it without purchasing a membership.

The bonus episode features a star-studded lineup, including actor and television host Raghav Juyal, comedian and reality TV winner Munawar Faruqui, content creator Niharika NM, and comedian-writer Rohan Joshi. It was intended to be exclusive content for paying subscribers who support the show through YouTube memberships.

Following the leak, Samay Raina addressed the issue through his Instagram stories, asking viewers not to consume pirated versions of the episode. Instead, he encouraged fans to watch the content through official channels so that the creators and everyone involved in producing the show receive proper support.

In his message, Samay admitted that he understood why some people rely on piracy because he had done the same during his college years. He revealed that when he was a student and could not afford to pay for entertainment, he often downloaded movies and other content through torrent websites.

However, the comedian explained that his perspective changed after he started earning his own income. He said that now he prefers to purchase games through official platforms like Steam and watches movies and shows on legitimate streaming services because he believes creators deserve to be compensated for their work.

Speaking directly to his audience, Samay said that anyone who wants to watch the complete bonus episode can subscribe to his YouTube membership through the link available in his Instagram bio. He emphasized that purchasing a membership is the right way to access exclusive content and helps support the people behind the production.

The comedian also shared that many fans had informed him they had already watched the episode through torrent websites or Google Drive links. Responding to those messages, Samay reiterated that while he once depended on piracy due to financial limitations, he now makes a conscious effort to pay for the content he enjoys because it supports the entertainment industry and encourages creators to continue producing quality work.

The incident has once again highlighted the ongoing challenge of digital piracy faced by online creators and streaming platforms. Despite the availability of subscription-based services and exclusive memberships, leaked content continues to spread rapidly across the internet, often within hours of release.

Samay Raina’s response has drawn attention for its balanced approach, as he acknowledged his own past experiences while encouraging fans to make ethical choices if they are financially able. His message serves as a reminder that paying for official content directly supports creators, performers, editors, and production teams who invest significant time and effort into bringing entertainment to audiences.

Shakib ready to return to Bangladesh if assured of security

DHAKA: Bangladesh cricket star and former lawmaker Shakib Al Hasan has said he is prepared to return home from exile, face ongoing court proceedings and play a farewell series if the government guarantees his safety. Shakib, 39, has been living in the United States since the fall of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government following a deadly student-led uprising in August 2024. The former Bangladesh captain remains politically linked to Hasina’s Awami League, having previously served as a lawmaker from the party. He is currently facing criminal cases in Bangladesh, including one related to the alleged killing of a protester and another involving anti-corruption authorities. Speaking to Reuters from Sri Lanka, where he is playing franchise cricket, Shakib said he wanted to return and was willing to appear before the courts. He said he would go back if the government formally assured him that adequate security would be provided. Shakib maintained that he had not committed any wrongdoing and described the murder case against him as baseless. He said the case was filed on a day in August 2024 when he was playing a match in Toronto. The cricketer also said he had previously attempted to return to Bangladesh. In late 2024, he boarded a flight after receiving assurances that he would be protected, but was reportedly instructed to turn back while the journey was underway. He eventually landed in Dubai before returning to the United States. Shakib said another planned return was blocked after he posted a birthday message for Hasina. He questioned why such a social media post should prevent him from entering his own country. The former captain also rejected suggestions that he should distance himself from Hasina or the Awami League to facilitate his return. Shakib recently appeared virtually at a press conference in Delhi alongside Hasina. Following the event, his vacant home in Bangladesh was reportedly attacked. He defended his participation, saying his message was focused on peace and Bangladesh’s progress. A spokesperson for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said Shakib must face the legal process like any other accused person and surrender before Bangladeshi courts. Meanwhile, Shakib said he still hopes to represent Bangladesh in a farewell series and possibly play at the 2027 ODI World Cup. He acknowledged that retirement was approaching but said he remained physically fit and continued to enjoy playing cricket. The cricketer also revealed that his bank accounts had been frozen for around 18 months during investigations. He said he had not seen his parents in Bangladesh for nearly two years.

Kangana Ranaut attacks Gen Z protesters, targets young women

Actress and BJP Member of Parliament Kangana Ranaut has sparked widespread outrage after sharing a series of inflammatory Instagram Stories targeting the Gen Z-led Cockroach Janta Party movement, which has been demanding accountability over exam paper leaks that rocked India’s education system. Her remarks, which took direct aim at young women protesters and described them in deeply offensive terms, have drawn sharp condemnation from across the country. The political context for her comments is significant. The CJP protests, which began in New Delhi and spread to other cities, were triggered by widespread allegations of paper leaks in competitive examinations. The movement gained considerable momentum after Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned, intensifying public debate around the protesters’ demands for systemic reform and accountability. Ranaut chose not to address those demands. Instead, she used her platform to launch a sweeping attack on the character of the people participating in the protests. “They don’t do this at the cost of their parents or families,” she wrote. “Here is a new generation of so-called westernised Indian women. I call them generational gutter. Some of them have nothing to offer to the system. They are not good at studies but they are so ugly and corrupt that they can’t be home makers either. But they probably flaunt their freedom to have drugs, drinks or endless body counts.” She went on to specifically criticise young Hindu women whom she accused of aspiring to a form of independence they had not earned. “Most appalled is the behaviour of young Hindu women who want to imitate the lives of independent career women, without earning that freedom,” she said. “Women who are truly independent, they make rebellious choices, bold opinions, unconventional career moves and they take accountability for their actions.” She also addressed those who had faced physical confrontations during the protests, framing the violence as a natural consequence of their own behaviour. “Protesters who are getting beaten and abused on the roads by the common people because of their filthy and abusive roles, must understand that once you post, you will be criticised and once you damage public property, the public will damage you.” She concluded with a statement she presented as philosophical but which read to many as dismissive. “Now is not a time to cry. If you receive the opposite reaction, it is due to cause and effect. You will understand soon if you have not already.” The remarks have landed with considerable force at a moment when Indian celebrities are already divided over whether and how to support the CJP movement. While figures including Diljit Dosanjh, Arijit Singh and actor Imran Khan have expressed solidarity with the protesters, Ranaut has positioned herself firmly on the opposite side, in a manner that has gone well beyond political disagreement into personal attack. The language she used about young women in particular has drawn the most intense criticism, with many pointing out the specific ugliness of describing protesting citizens in the terms she chose.

Protests erupt in Bologna after man’s death during police restraint

Thousands of people marched through the Italian city of Bologna after the death of a Moroccan born man who died while being restrained by police, prompting a criminal investigation and violent clashes that left dozens of officers injured. The protests were held in memory of Abderrahim Fakir, whose death on Sunday has sparked widespread public anger and renewed debate over police conduct in Italy. Demonstrators gathered to demand justice before a smaller group broke away from the main rally and clashed with riot police late into the night. Authorities said 64 police officers were injured during the unrest as protesters threw objects, confronted security forces and set two vehicles on fire. Police eventually brought the situation under control. The incident that led to the demonstrations began after officers responded to reports of a man behaving erratically in Bologna’s Pilastro neighbourhood. According to police, Fakir was seen kicking garage doors before officers attempted to calm him. They later used pepper spray during the confrontation. A video widely shared by Italian media shows two police officers holding Fakir face down on the ground while another man restrains his legs. Emergency medical workers are also visible nearby. In the footage, Fakir can be heard asking the officers to stop before he gradually stops moving. After he became unresponsive, officers handcuffed him and attempted to wake him before medical staff intervened. Prosecutors have opened a manslaughter investigation involving the police officers and emergency workers who were present at the scene. The inquiry will examine whether the restraint methods or medical response contributed to Fakir’s death. Several witnesses told local media that although Fakir appeared distressed, he was unarmed and did not pose a threat to anyone nearby. His sister, Khadija Fakir, called for a full investigation and said the family wanted answers about how he died while in police custody. Bologna Mayor Matteo Lepore also expressed shock after watching the video and organised Monday’s public demonstration in support of Fakir’s family. During the rally, Fakir’s niece addressed the crowd, describing her uncle as a caring and respected member of the community. She said he deserved compassion, dignity and help rather than the outcome that followed. Although the main demonstration remained peaceful, officials said a small number of protesters later turned violent. Mayor Lepore condemned the unrest while drawing a distinction between peaceful demonstrators and those who resorted to violence. The police union defended the officers’ actions and argued that the available video showed they had acted appropriately under difficult circumstances. Union representatives said the officers immediately handed over body camera footage to investigators and insisted the use of force was justified because officers faced resistance during the incident. Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni called for a thorough investigation into Fakir’s death while strongly condemning the violence that followed. She said determining the truth about the incident was essential but stressed that attacks on law enforcement could not be justified. Fakir’s death has drawn comparisons with previous high profile cases involving deaths in police custody in Italy. Opposition politicians have criticised the government’s strong support for police, while human rights advocates say the investigation must establish whether officers followed proper procedures during the arrest. The case has intensified public discussion over policing practices and accountability across the country.

White House hit by Swift, Spider-Man backlash

Questions are growing over the removal of Taylor Swift’s music from several social media videos associated with US President Donald Trump and the White House, as a separate controversy erupted over the administration’s use of Spider-Man in an immigration-related post. Neither Swift nor the White House has publicly explained why the songs were removed. The development has prompted speculation among fans about whether the singer or her representatives objected to the use of her music. The controversy comes as the White House faces criticism over a social media post featuring Spider-Man in connection with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The post used images styled around the superhero’s web-slinging abilities. It portrayed people being caught in a web alongside a message referring to the detention and deportation of undocumented immigrants. The White House caption described the imagery as coming from “your friendly neighborhood ICE agents.” The post quickly triggered criticism from Spider-Man fans, with many users calling on Marvel Studios to take action over the unauthorised use of the character for political messaging. Several commenters urged Marvel to seek the removal of the post, while others argued that Spider-Man should not be associated with the administration’s immigration policies. Marvel Studios has not publicly responded to the controversy or indicated whether it plans to challenge the White House over the use of Spider-Man. The backlash has also drawn comparisons with the recent disappearance of Swift’s songs from Trump-related and White House social media content. Swift has previously been politically outspoken. In the 2024 US presidential election, she endorsed Democratic candidate Kamala Harris, who was then serving as vice president, rather than Trump. However, Swift has not recently made public comments about Trump in connection with the latest developments. The absence of an official explanation has left fans debating whether the removal of her music was requested by the singer herself, prompted by licensing issues or resulted from another decision by the White House or Trump campaign. The two controversies have unfolded at the same time, prompting renewed discussion about the use of entertainment figures, music and popular fictional characters in political communication.

Iran vows to resist new US sanctions as China rejects pressure

TEHRAN: Iran has vowed to strengthen its economy and find ways to withstand what it calls unjustified US sanctions, as Washington prepares to announce a new package of economic measures against Tehran. Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf made the remarks during a meeting with Iranian and Iraqi business representatives in Baghdad on Friday. Ghalibaf said economic strength and national security were closely connected. He accused the United States and Israel of using economic and political pressure after failing to achieve their objectives through direct military confrontation. He called for stronger economic cooperation between Iran and Iraq. He also suggested that the two neighbours increase trade using their national currencies to reduce dependence on the US dollar. Ghalibaf said Iran and Iraq should focus on economic development and shared prosperity despite pressure from Western countries. The comments came a day after US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced plans for what he described as the toughest sanctions ever imposed on Iran. Bessent said further details of the measures would be released on Monday. He suggested that maximum economic pressure could reduce the need for another major military operation against Iran. US President Donald Trump has also warned countries and businesses against providing financial or economic support to Tehran. Trump described the planned campaign as an unprecedented effort of economic warfare and isolation. He warned that countries allowing financial institutions, companies, airports or government bodies to provide assistance to Iran could face severe economic consequences. Iran has strongly rejected the US pressure. Its Foreign Ministry described the latest sanctions as economic terrorism and said they would not weaken Iran’s determination to protect its independence and sovereignty. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also accused Washington of trying to divert attention from economic problems inside the United States. China rejects sanctions strategy China has opposed Washington’s approach and said sanctions and economic pressure would not solve the conflict. Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian called on all sides to adopt responsible measures and seek a political and diplomatic solution. China has significant economic ties with Iran and remains a major buyer of Iranian oil. Data from energy analytics firm Kpler indicated that China accounted for more than 80% of Iran’s shipped oil purchases in 2025. The issue could further complicate US-China relations. Washington has warned against economic cooperation with Tehran, while China has repeatedly criticised unilateral sanctions. Bessent said the United States was seeking cooperation from its allies and other countries. He argued that China had a strong interest in maintaining stability in the Gulf because a significant portion of its energy supplies comes from the region. The latest sanctions threat comes as the wider Middle East conflict continues to disrupt energy markets and regional trade. Oil prices rose after Trump announced plans for stronger economic measures against Iran. The conflict has affected oil supplies and raised concerns about shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. The strategic waterway handles a significant share of global oil trade and has become a major point of tension during the conflict. The United States and Iran have announced ceasefire agreements on two occasions in recent months, but both arrangements have broken down. Iran now faces growing economic pressure from Washington while attempting to maintain trade and regional partnerships.
