Iran, Oman reach deal on Strait of Hormuz shipping routes

Iran and Oman have reached an agreement on a proposed shipping route map for the strategically important Strait of Hormuz following weeks of technical negotiations, Iranian officials said on Saturday.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said the two countries had made significant progress in talks aimed at establishing safer navigation routes through the waterway. The negotiations began around three months ago under an agreement signed in June.

Baghaei said the proposed route was developed through coordination between Iran’s foreign ministry and its defence, security and environmental authorities. He added that Tehran and Muscat were still discussing some remaining issues, including the wording of a joint statement.

The spokesman stressed that the arrangement was a bilateral agreement between Iran and Oman and was intended to facilitate the safe movement of commercial vessels while respecting the sovereignty of both countries.

However, Tehran has made clear that the full restoration of normal shipping through the Strait of Hormuz depends on broader developments involving the United States.

Baghaei said Iran wanted an end to what it described as US military threats, naval restrictions and violations of previous commitments before normal commercial traffic could fully resume.

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi separately said negotiations with Oman over the waterway were continuing. He described the discussions as separate from the wider diplomatic dispute between Tehran and Washington.

Araghchi also rejected the description of an earlier agreement as a simple 60-day ceasefire. He said the understanding was aimed at ending the war, while the 60-day period was intended for negotiations toward a final settlement.

He said Qatar and Pakistan were continuing to exchange messages with Iran but stressed that Tehran had not yet decided to resume direct negotiations with Washington.

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi also rejected claims that the United States could take control of the Strait of Hormuz. He said Iran remained in charge of decisions concerning the waterway and dismissed statements suggesting that the strait could become US territory.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world’s most important energy corridors, connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman. A prolonged disruption to shipping through the waterway has raised concerns over global energy supplies and fuel prices.

The latest developments come amid continuing tensions between Iran, the United States and Israel. Shipping through the strait remains significantly below normal levels, while diplomatic efforts to end the wider conflict have yet to produce a lasting settlement.

US President Donald Trump has meanwhile urged Americans to accept higher fuel prices while the conflict continues, arguing that confronting Iran was necessary to prevent it from obtaining a nuclear weapon.

The dispute has already pushed global oil prices higher, while rising fuel costs in the United States have added to inflationary pressures.

Ryan Reynolds fuels Deadpool comeback rumours at Comic-Con

Ryan Reynolds thrilled Marvel fans with a surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, sparking fresh speculation that Deadpool could feature in the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday. The 49-year-old actor made an unexpected entrance during Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation on Saturday, delighting the audience by appearing in an unusual version of Deadpool’s iconic costume. Instead of the character’s signature red-and-black suit, Reynolds wore a denim outfit, playfully calling it a “Canadian tuxedo.” Remaining fully in character, Reynolds introduced himself as “Ricky” while pretending to be an enthusiastic fan attending the panel. “Huge fan, look at that cast. I’m not wearing the Doom mask over this mask because I didn’t want to ruin the look of my Canadian tuxedo. My name is Ricky, that’s a mononym, like Cher or Madonna, and I’m just cosplaying hard,” he joked, drawing loud cheers from the crowd. The humorous moment quickly shifted toward the much-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday. Reynolds jokingly asked whether there was still room for him in the film, fueling rumors that Deadpool could make an appearance despite no official announcement from Marvel Studios. Robert Downey Jr., who was also part of the panel, played along with the joke and teased Reynolds by saying the movie had already completed filming. “It’s in the can, bro. Look around you. Did you bump your head?” Downey Jr. responded, referring to the packed Hall H audience. Without breaking character, Deadpool continued the exchange, asking if there might still be “additional photography, no overages, maybe last-minute additions,” prompting more laughter from fans in attendance. The playful interaction immediately spread across social media, where Marvel fans began debating whether Reynolds had secretly hinted at Deadpool’s involvement in Avengers: Doomsday. Many viewers interpreted the appearance as a subtle clue that the popular antihero could join the next Avengers adventure. One fan confidently wrote that Reynolds was “100% confirmed” in their eyes, while others speculated that the exchange between Reynolds and Downey Jr. may have contained hidden hints about the film. Not everyone shared the same enthusiasm, however. Some social media users questioned Reynolds’ future in the franchise, while others offered mixed opinions about his Comic-Con appearance and the possibility of Deadpool joining the Avengers lineup. Despite the growing speculation, Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed whether Reynolds will reprise his role as Deadpool in Avengers: Doomsday. The actor’s appearance at Comic-Con appeared to be designed primarily as a comedic surprise, leaving fans guessing about what the future holds for the fan-favorite character. Avengers: Doomsday is scheduled to arrive in theaters worldwide on December 18, 2026. The highly anticipated superhero film will be the 39th installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and continues the saga that followed Avengers: Endgame. With anticipation continuing to build, fans are eagerly awaiting official announcements about the movie’s complete cast and any surprise appearances that may still be revealed before its release.

CBFC orders cuts in Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 b…

Bollywood actor Emraan Hashmi’s much-awaited film Awarapan 2 has officially received clearance from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), but only after several significant edits were made. The film has been awarded a U/A 16+ certificate, allowing viewers aged 16 and above to watch it under parental guidance. The CBFC approved the film on August 5, 2026, with a final runtime of 140 minutes and 20 seconds. However, before granting certification, the board instructed the filmmakers to implement changes at nine different points throughout the movie. According to reports, the CBFC asked the makers to tone down violent sequences, remove certain objectionable words from both the audio and subtitles, and include mandatory health warnings related to smoking and drug use. The board also directed the filmmakers to display the Hindi title prominently and ensure that anti-smoking messages remain visible during scenes featuring tobacco use. In addition, the certification body required a warning related to child trafficking to be included in the film. Some action scenes were shortened to reduce the intensity of violence, while one particular sequence was reportedly cut by nearly 50 percent. A scene involving drug inhalation was also modified to comply with certification guidelines. The end credits were adjusted to better align with the background music. Overall, approximately four minutes of footage were removed, while another 20 seconds of content were altered. Despite these edits, the film’s official runtime remains unchanged at 140 minutes and 20 seconds. Directed by Nitin Kakkar, Awarapan 2 stars Emraan Hashmi alongside Disha Patani and Shabana Azmi in key roles. The film serves as the sequel to the 2007 hit Awarapan and continues the emotional storytelling of the original while introducing a darker, revenge-driven narrative. Produced by Vishesh Bhatt, the sequel also reunites composer Mithoon and lyricist Sayeed Quadri. Fans can look forward to refreshed versions of the iconic songs “To Phir Aao” and “Tera Mera Rishta,” along with several new tracks created specifically for the film. With the required CBFC changes now completed, Awarapan 2 is set for a theatrical release on August 14, 2026. The film is expected to attract both longtime fans of the original and new audiences eager to see Emraan Hashmi return to one of his most memorable franchises.
