Iran warns US of retaliation if nuclear sites are …

TEHRAN: Iran has issued a fresh and stern warning to the United States, declaring that any military strike on its nuclear facilities would trigger a direct response against American interests and those of its allies across the Middle East, raising fears of a wider regional conflict.

The warning came on Tuesday from Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, the country’s top joint military command, amid growing tensions following recent statements by US President Donald Trump.

In an official statement, the military command said that any attack targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure would not remain limited in scope and would instead lead to a dangerous expansion of conflict throughout the region.

Iranian commanders stressed that the United States and its regional allies would bear the consequences of such military action, warning that their strategic interests could become legitimate targets if Iranian nuclear sites were attacked.

The latest warning follows remarks by President Trump, who recently threatened military action against Iran’s nuclear facilities, particularly the underground nuclear complex near Natanz. Trump claimed that an attack on the site could happen soon and asserted that Iran would be unable to stop it.

His comments have further heightened tensions between Washington and Tehran, which have remained locked in a prolonged confrontation over Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security issues.

While Iranian officials insist their nuclear activities are for peaceful purposes, Western governments have repeatedly expressed concerns over Tehran’s uranium enrichment programme, leading to years of sanctions and diplomatic disputes.

Security analysts believe that any direct strike on Iran’s nuclear facilities could dramatically escalate instability across the Middle East, potentially drawing multiple regional actors into a broader conflict and disrupting global energy markets.

The latest exchange of threats underscores the fragile security situation in the region, with the international community closely monitoring developments amid growing fears that miscalculation by either side could spark a larger military confrontation.

    LPG becomes costlier from August

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for August, raising the cost for both domestic and commercial consumers across Pakistan. According to an official notification issued by Ogra, the price of LPG has been increased by Rs12.89 per kilogram, taking the new official rate to Rs254.32 per kg for the month of August. The regulator also revised the price of the standard 11.8-kilogram domestic LPG cylinder, which will now cost Rs3,000.92 following the latest increase. The revised prices will come into effect for the entire month of August under Ogra’s monthly pricing mechanism. The increase is expected to place an additional financial burden on households that rely on LPG for cooking and heating, particularly in areas without access to natural gas. Commercial users, including restaurants, hotels and small businesses that depend on LPG, are also likely to face higher operating costs. Ogra reviews LPG prices every month based on prevailing market conditions and other relevant pricing factors before issuing revised rates through official notifications. Consumers are expected to pay the updated prices from the beginning of August unless further revisions are announced by the regulator.

Five-wicket star Mohammad Abbas dropped for key Test

PORT OF SPAIN: Pakistan’s team selection for the second Test against the West Indies has triggered widespread debate after experienced fast bowler Mohammad Abbas was left out of the playing XI despite delivering a match-winning five-wicket haul in the previous Test. The unexpected decision has raised eyebrows among cricket experts and fans, with many describing it as one of the most unusual selection calls in Pakistan’s recent Test history. Abbas was Pakistan’s standout performer in the opening Test at Tarouba, finishing with eight wickets across the match, including a brilliant five-wicket haul in one innings. Despite his efforts, Pakistan suffered a 90-run defeat, largely due to a disappointing batting display. However, instead of retaining their leading bowler, the team management opted to hand Ubaid Shah his Test debut for the series-deciding second match. Pakistan captain Babar Azam defended the move, saying the decision was based on pitch conditions and part of four changes made to the playing XI. According to Babar, the management believed the conditions in Port of Spain required a different bowling combination, and Abbas was rested with those factors in mind. The decision has nevertheless sparked criticism, particularly because bowlers who claim five wickets in an innings are rarely omitted from the very next Test. Cricket statisticians pointed out that this is believed to be the first time since 1980 that a Pakistan bowler has been dropped immediately after taking a five-wicket haul in a Test innings. The last comparable case dates back to Pakistan’s 1979-80 tour of India, when Ehteshamuddin was left out after claiming five wickets in an innings to make room for the returning Imran Khan. The debate intensified after Ubaid Shah endured a difficult start to his Test career. On the opening day of the second Test, the young pacer conceded 56 runs in just nine overs, making him Pakistan’s most expensive bowler of the day despite picking up a wicket. His costly spell has prompted fresh questions over whether the management made the right call by overlooking Abbas, whose experience and consistency have long been valued in red-ball cricket. With the series on the line, Pakistan’s selection strategy is now under intense scrutiny. Whether the bold gamble pays off could have a significant impact on the outcome of the Test and may shape discussions over team selection in the months ahead.

Sargodha student dies after allegedly being forced…

A young woman lost her life in an alleged poisoning incident in Kot Momin, a town in Punjab’s Sargodha district, after reportedly consuming a toxic drink. Police have launched an investigation following allegations by the victim’s family that she was deliberately poisoned by a classmate after refusing his marriage proposal. According to police officials, a case has been registered against two suspects on the complaint of the deceased’s father. Authorities said the investigation is underway, and efforts are being made to arrest the accused. The victim’s father alleged that his daughter had been invited to a local pizza shop by the suspects, where she was allegedly served a poisonous juice. He claimed that the accused resorted to the act after she refused a marriage proposal made by one of them. According to the complaint, the young woman consumed the beverage during the meeting and shortly afterward began experiencing severe health complications. Her condition rapidly deteriorated, prompting those present to rush her to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. Despite the efforts of doctors and medical staff, the young woman could not be saved and later succumbed to her condition. Her death has shocked the local community and sparked concern over violence linked to rejected marriage proposals. Police officials confirmed that a First Information Report (FIR) has been registered against the two nominated suspects based on the allegations made by the victim’s father. Investigators are collecting evidence and recording statements from witnesses to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the incident. The victim’s body was shifted to a hospital for a post-mortem examination to determine the precise cause of death. Following the completion of the medico-legal formalities, the body was handed over to her family for burial. Law enforcement authorities said raids are being carried out at multiple locations to arrest the suspects, who are currently at large. Police expressed confidence that the accused would be taken into custody soon and assured the family that the investigation would be conducted in accordance with the law. Officials also stated that forensic evidence, including the alleged beverage and other material collected from the scene, will be examined as part of the investigation. The findings of the post-mortem report and laboratory analysis are expected to play an important role in determining whether poisoning was the cause of death. The case has drawn attention due to the serious nature of the allegations. However, police emphasized that the investigation is still in its early stages, and the claims made in the FIR will be examined through available evidence before any conclusions are reached. Authorities have urged anyone with information related to the incident to cooperate with investigators to help establish the facts. They reiterated that all aspects of the case, including the motive behind the alleged crime, are being thoroughly investigated. The tragic incident has once again highlighted concerns about crimes allegedly linked to rejected marriage proposals and personal disputes. Police have assured the victim’s family that every effort will be made to bring those responsible to justice, while the investigation continues to establish the full circumstances surrounding the young woman’s death.

Public projects are people’s right, not a gift: …

ISLAMABAD, July 26: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has said that facilities and development projects built for the public should not be described as gifts. He said these projects are the people’s right. In a video statement, Bilawal said people were being told about promises involving buses, roads and airports. He welcomed every project aimed at improving public facilities. He said he would welcome every new bus service. He would also welcome every road, hospital and airport built for the people. However, Bilawal stressed that such facilities should not be presented as gifts to the public. He said the people have a right to better transport, healthcare, roads and other basic services. The PPP chairman said his party had also taken practical steps instead of making only promises. He claimed that around 3,000 new employment opportunities had been created through PPP initiatives. Bilawal also spoke about Mirpur Airport. He said he had personally worked to secure funds for the airport in the previous budget. He said the allocation was made during the budget process to support the airport project. He presented the initiative as part of efforts to improve facilities for the people of the region. Bilawal also criticised his political opponents while discussing development work in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. He said it appeared that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leaders Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz were standing with their minister. The PPP chairman also referred to a stadium where his political opponents had recently addressed a gathering. He said the stadium was constructed during a previous PPP government. Bilawal said his focus was not limited to development projects. He said he wanted the people of Kashmir to receive their fundamental political and economic rights. He specifically mentioned the right to governance, ownership and employment. According to Bilawal, providing these rights to the people would be more important than announcing development projects as gifts. He said people should have ownership over the resources and development of their region. They should also have access to employment opportunities. Bilawal maintained that governments must fulfil their responsibilities towards citizens. Public infrastructure, he said, should be viewed as an entitlement. He added that roads, hospitals, transport services and airports are built using public resources. Therefore, they should not be used as political gifts.
