IRGC targets key US military bases in Kuwait

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has claimed responsibility for launching another round of attacks on US military facilities in Kuwait, saying the strikes targeted key military infrastructure used by American forces in the Gulf region.

In an official statement, the IRGC said the operation targeted the Ali Al Salem Air Base, where US military personnel and equipment are stationed. According to the statement, the attack struck a large military equipment warehouse, a Patriot air defence missile system, and a hangar used to house US MQ-9 Reaper drones.

The IRGC claimed the strikes caused significant damage to military assets at the base. However, the extent of the reported damage has not been independently verified.

The statement also said Iranian forces targeted Al Udairi Barracks, another military facility used by US forces in Kuwait. The IRGC claimed the attack hit accommodation areas used by American troops as well as two helicopter hangars, resulting in heavy damage to helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles.

Iran further claimed that a telecommunications tower was also struck during the operation. According to the IRGC, the attack was carried out in retaliation for what it described as previous US attacks on communication infrastructure inside Iran.

The latest announcement comes amid heightened military tensions between Iran and the United States following recent exchanges of attacks in the region. Both countries have accused each other of escalating the conflict through military operations targeting strategic installations.

There has been no immediate confirmation from the US Department of Defense or the Kuwaiti government regarding the IRGC’s claims. American and Kuwaiti officials have not publicly commented on whether the reported attacks caused casualties or damage to military facilities.

Independent verification of the IRGC’s claims remains unavailable, and the exact impact of the reported strikes has not yet been confirmed.

The reported attacks are likely to further increase tensions in the Gulf region, where US military bases play a central role in regional security and military operations. Observers say any further escalation could have significant implications for stability in the Middle East as diplomatic efforts to ease tensions continue.

China’s Chongqing East becomes world’s largest railway station

Almost everyone has travelled by train at some point and has seen railway stations. But do you know which country is home to the world’s largest railway station? If you do not, here is the answer: the world’s largest railway station is located in China and is nothing short of an architectural marvel. China is already known for numerous engineering wonders ranging from remarkable bridges to the world’s largest high-speed railway network. Chongqing East Railway Station Chongqing East Railway Station located in southwestern China is the world’s largest railway station in terms of area. It was opened to the public in June 2025. The railway station covers an area of approximately 13 million square feet equivalent to around 170 football fields. It is also about five times larger than New York’s Grand Central Terminal. The station has 15 platforms and 29 railway tracks and during peak hours, it can accommodate around 16,000 passengers per hour. Around 16,500 tonnes of steel were used for its roof. However, the most remarkable feature of the station is the speed at which it was constructed and it was built on top of a mountain. The Chongqing region is mountainous which has traditionally made the development of transportation infrastructure particularly challenging. The station was constructed in just 38 months with the help of around 40,000 workers and a fleet of robotic machinery. Although 38 months may seem like a long period, in many countries, simply obtaining approval for projects of this scale can take longer than that.

Armed men storm prison van, free murder suspect on…

JHELUM: In a major security lapse, armed men intercepted a prison van on the busy GT Road near Mandra and forcibly freed a murder suspect who was being taken back to District Jail Jhelum after appearing in court. The escape involved Malik Hamad, who is facing a murder case registered with Saddar Beruni police. He had initially been held at Adiala Central Jail before being transferred to Jhelum following the recovery of a mobile phone and other prohibited items during a surprise inspection. Hamad was brought to Rawalpindi on Tuesday for a court hearing. While the prison van was returning to Jhelum, it slowed near Galaxy Hotel at Bacha Stop, where another vehicle approached the van. According to sources, the occupants told prison officials that Hamad’s mother was seriously ill and requested a brief meeting with him. Taking advantage of the confusion, several armed men surrounded the van with their vehicles, pulled Hamad out and escaped. The incident immediately triggered a security alert, with senior police and jail officials rushing to the location. Police teams were subsequently formed to track down and arrest the escaped suspect. The incident has raised fresh concerns about the security arrangements for transporting prisoners. It comes weeks after 14 high-risk prisoners escaped from another prison van while returning from Kahuta in late June. All of them were later recaptured following an extensive search operation, while cases were registered against the policemen responsible for their security. Following that escape, Rawalpindi police introduced new standard operating procedures aimed at strengthening prisoner transportation security. The latest incident, however, has renewed questions about whether those measures are being properly implemented. Four policemen reportedly assigned to guard Hamad have been detained for questioning. Sources also claimed that the suspect had links with an influential individual associated with a private housing society. Despite the seriousness of the incident, senior police officials declined to comment publicly, while a search operation to recapture Hamad remained underway.

Shane Richie, Christie Goddard finalise divorce after 19 years

Shane Richie and Christie Goddard have officially ended their marriage. A new report from The Sun confirms the “EastEnders” star and “The Last Dance” actress have parted ways after 19 years together. According to the report, their divorce was finalised on July 23. That came just days before the 62-year-old actor was arrested for drink-driving. An insider told the outlet that Goddard initiated the split after growing frustrated with Richie’s increasingly erratic behaviour. The source said she had reached her breaking point and made the decision herself, after discussing it with family members. According to the insider, Goddard had tolerated a great deal over the years and had been going through an especially difficult stretch recently. The source noted there wasn’t one specific incident that triggered the split, but rather a gradual accumulation of issues. The insider added that there is a sense Richie had been working hard and living intensely, and that his behaviour had spiralled somewhat as a result. Despite the split, the source revealed that Goddard hasn’t asked Richie to leave their £2 million family home. Her primary focus, according to the insider, remains their three children. Following Richie’s drink-driving arrest, the 47-year-old actress was reportedly shocked by the incident, even though the divorce had already been finalised by that point. She’s said to be hoping the arrest serves as a wake-up call for him. The source explained that Richie may have been pushed over the edge following the separation. However, they added that the incident ultimately confirmed Goddard’s concerns about his declining behaviour were justified. Goddard and Richie began dating around 2001 after meeting through mutual friends. They married on July 21, 2007, and share three children together, son Mackenzie Blue and daughters Lolita Bell and Romani-Skye Angel Shelley. The couple’s split marks the end of a relationship that spanned nearly two decades, closing out what had long been considered one of British entertainment’s more stable celebrity marriages.

Swiss government rejects proposed constitutional ban on non-UN sanctions ahead of neutrality vote

The Swiss government has formally rejected a popular initiative seeking to enshrine a rigid, absolute definition of neutrality into the country’s constitution, warning the move would cripple national security and diplomatic flexibility. The constitutional referendum, scheduled for 27 September, was triggered after right-wing campaign groups backed by the Swiss People’s Party gathered over 100,000 signatures. Proponents argue Bern’s historical stance has been diluted by adopting European Union sanctions against Russia over its war in Ukraine and deepening training ties with NATO. If passed, the amendment would constitutionally mandate that Swiss neutrality remain perpetual and armed, while explicitly barring non-UN sanctions and foreign military alliances. Launching the official counter-campaign on Tuesday, Swiss Foreign Minister Ignazio Cassis insisted the nation’s neutrality remains intact without need for restrictive legal amendments. “Switzerland has been and is neutral, and it will remain neutral,” Cassis said in a statement, adding that the proposal would severely hinder security cooperation with international partners prior to an actual crisis. Current polling indicates low public support for the initiative, with a Tamedia survey showing 54 per cent of voters opposed compared to 34 per cent in favour.
