Maryam Nawaz’s electric bus gift to AJK sparks d…

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz’s decision to provide 10 electric buses to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) has ignited a political and constitutional debate over the use of provincial resources outside Punjab. The controversy intensified after the buses arrived in Muzaffarabad just days before the first phase of the AJK Legislative Assembly elections.

Maryam Nawaz shared a video on social media announcing that the green electric buses had reached Muzaffarabad. The buses carried banners featuring her photograph alongside the message, “A gift from Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to the people of Azad Jammu and Kashmir.” The announcement came only two days before polling in the Mirpur Division, where election campaigning was underway.

At the time, Maryam Nawaz and Pakistan Muslim League-N (PML-N) President Nawaz Sharif were in the region to campaign for their party’s candidates. The timing of the announcement prompted criticism from political opponents and legal observers, who questioned whether public resources should be used during an active election campaign.

The issue has also sparked a broader debate over whether a provincial government can spend taxpayer-funded resources outside its constitutional jurisdiction. Critics argue that the Punjab government’s primary responsibility is to serve the residents of Punjab, while supporters maintain that intergovernmental cooperation and public welfare projects are permissible under certain circumstances.

Senior PML-N leader and Adviser to the Prime Minister Rana Sanaullah defended the party’s participation in the election campaign. Speaking to local media, he stated that because Azad Jammu and Kashmir does not have a caretaker government during elections, federal and provincial ministers are legally allowed to campaign.

However, Rana Sanaullah also acknowledged concerns about the electoral process. He suggested that the newly elected AJK Legislative Assembly should consider legal reforms to prevent governments in power from influencing elections through official positions or public resources.

The controversy has renewed discussions about election ethics, transparency, and the appropriate use of taxpayer funds during political campaigns. Legal experts note that while development assistance between governments is not uncommon, the timing and political context of such announcements often determine whether they are viewed as administrative decisions or campaign-related activities.

As political debate continues, the electric bus initiative has become a key issue in discussions about governance, constitutional authority, and the responsible use of provincial resources ahead of elections.

Spiderman-A Brand New Day- a film of identity and resilience

“I am not just Peter Parker, I am Spiderman, and sometimes Spiderman has to do hard things, leaving Peter Parker’s heart broken.” This sentence lies at the heart of the film. Spiderman must help the people of New York even if that comes at the cost of his personal happiness. He has distanced himself from those he used to know, such as his girlfriend MJ and his friend Ned. Spider-Man: A Brand New Day has been directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and is a Marvel Studios production. It falls into the genre of action, sci-fi and adventure. With a runtime of 2 hours and 24 minutes, it has been rated at 8.2/10 on IMDB. The plot is a fight of good against evil. The damage control centre kills Sarah, Jean’s sister, for her special powers. Jean is in their imprisonment. Bill, the director of Damage Control, seeks Spider-Man’s help to eliminate Jean. Spiderman does not know the truth, and he helps Bill. What is the truth? Will Spider-Man find out in time? The film follows a flashback where Jean and Sarah are together, and the damage control employees kidnap Sarah. The damage control is after V. Max, and no one knows what it is. Jean possesses extraordinary psychic abilities. Jean can get into people’s minds. She can control their minds and possess them. She has powers she cannot curb. As Spiderman follows the trail and puts two and two together, he realises Bill was the real culprit. As Jean tries to destroy Bill, Spiderman convinces her not to. Once again, the film shows that Spider-Man’s greatest strength is compassion and not brute force. Spiderman helps Jean understand the healing power of love. He promises to stay by her side. In the subplot is Peter Parker’s romantic relationship with MJ (Zendaya). The relationship on the verge of destruction is restored as MJ remembers the time she spent with Peter. Spiderman is severely injured at the end, and as Jean uses her magical powers to cure him, she is successful. The film offers a bit of comic relief when Spider-Man exits the hospital without being noticed. It sends the audience into peals of laughter. The characterisation is superb. Tom Holland’s (Peter Parker) performance is outstanding. Tom appears as a more mature Spider-Man who carries the burden of immense personal sacrifice without losing his compassion and sense of humour. Zendaya (MJ) also spontaneously delivers her role. The chemistry between the two is striking despite the heartbreaking distance between them. Visually, the film is spectacular. The web singing sequences through NewYork are exhilarating, and the cinematography is great. The thematic concerns are of identity, sacrifice, loneliness and hope. Peter’s struggle to rebuild his life after having lost everything makes him more relatable than ever. Spiderman- A Brand New Day follows the film Spiderman: No Way Home, documenting Peter Parker’s journey since then. As Parker is faced with a choice to either be Spiderman or Peter he chooses to be both. At the end, the film promises another movie, calling it Spiderman Returns. On the whole, Spiderman: A Brand New Day is a story about resilience and selflessness, and it remains true to the character of  Spiderman. It delivers thrilling action and heartfelt performances. A great film that deserves applause. So grab your tickets before they run out!

Ariana Grande sparks tattoo buzz after Instagram romance reveal

Ariana Grande has seemingly paid a romantic tribute to her boyfriend, Ricky Alvarez, after making their relationship public on Instagram. The 33-year-old singer, songwriter and actress debuted a new tattoo during the opening night of her 10-show Eternal Sunshine Tour residency at London’s O2 Arena on Saturday, August 15. The small design, placed near her collarbone, features the words “I do love you.” Fans quickly noticed that Grande’s new tattoo appears remarkably similar to one Alvarez already has in the same area of his body. The resemblance immediately fueled speculation that the tattoo could be a personal tribute to her longtime friend and rekindled love interest. Grande and Alvarez have a history together. The pair first began dating in April 2015 and remained together until July 2016. Although they eventually ended their romantic relationship, they continued to maintain a friendship over the years. The tattoo speculation comes shortly after Grande seemingly confirmed that the two had reunited romantically. The Wicked star included a sweet photo of Alvarez in a recent Instagram post celebrating her latest album and sharing highlights from her current tour. In the picture, Alvarez can be seen with his arm around Grande, giving fans a glimpse into their relationship. Alvarez previously worked as one of Grande’s backup dancers, making their renewed romance particularly notable to longtime followers. Grande’s new tattoo quickly became a topic of discussion among fans, with reactions ranging from excitement to skepticism. Some questioned whether the couple had moved too quickly, particularly because their relationship had only recently become public again. Others defended the singer, pointing out that Grande and Alvarez have known each other for years and had previously dated before remaining friends. Their long history, fans argued, makes their renewed romance different from a relationship that began only recently. The relationship reveal also comes as Grande prepares to step back from the spotlight. The singer recently indicated that she intends to take a temporary break from the entertainment industry after completing her current touring commitments. Her decision followed a period of intense public attention, including concern from fans about her appearance in the music video for “Petal.” Grande has previously addressed the pressure created by constant public scrutiny and the impact it can have on her personal life. Meanwhile, her Eternal Sunshine Tour continues to attract major attention. The tour began on June 6 in Oakland, California, and includes a 41-date summer run. Grande is currently completing a 10-show residency at London’s O2 Arena, where she debuted her new tattoo. The tour is scheduled to conclude on September 1, marking the end of her current run before she takes time away from the public spotlight. For now, Grande’s matching tattoo has given fans another reason to speculate about her rekindled relationship with Alvarez, while the couple continues to enjoy their renewed connection away from much of the public attention.

Arshad Nadeem to skip lausanne diamond league for …

Pakistan’s Olympic gold medallist Arshad Nadeem has decided to skip the upcoming Lausanne Diamond League and instead focus on an overseas training camp in South Africa. The 2026 Lausanne Diamond League is scheduled to take place in Switzerland on August 21. Nadeem was initially included in the event’s entry list, but he has now opted to prioritize training and preparation ahead of his upcoming international competitions. Nadeem is currently training at Punjab Stadium in Lahore and is expected to spend around two weeks training in South Africa. Reports indicate that he plans to travel to Potchefstroom once his visa arrangements are completed. The decision comes after a disappointing outing at the recent 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, where Nadeem finished ninth among 12 competitors with a best throw of 77.41 metres. He failed to progress beyond the first three throws in the final. Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage won the Commonwealth Games javelin gold medal with an impressive throw of 89.75 metres, while Nadeem was unable to defend his title at the event. Despite the setback, Nadeem remains one of Pakistan’s leading track and field athletes. He won Olympic gold in the men’s javelin throw at the Paris 2024 Olympics, producing an Olympic-record throw of 92.97 metres. The Lausanne event had initially attracted considerable attention because Nadeem was listed among a strong javelin field. His withdrawal means he will instead use the coming weeks to work on his form and conditioning in South Africa. Nadeem’s next major appearances are expected to include the World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest from September 6 to 14, followed by the Asian Games. The decision to skip Lausanne appears aimed at giving the Olympic champion additional preparation time before those important competitions. For Nadeem, the South Africa training camp could provide an opportunity to address the issues exposed by his recent Commonwealth Games performance. Rather than immediately returning to competition, the javelin star will now have additional time to train and prepare for the remainder of the 2026 season. His withdrawal from Lausanne also highlights the importance of managing his competition schedule while preparing for major championships. Fans will now be watching closely to see whether the additional training helps Nadeem regain his best form in his next international appearance.
