Bangladesh jet crash survivors and families mark o…

Families and survivors of a Bangladesh jet crash that killed dozens at a Dhaka school gathered this week to mark one year since the disaster, with many saying they are still waiting for accountability.

Nure Jannat Yusha was a sixth grade student going through an ordinary school day when a Bangladeshi air force jet went down over her campus in the capital. The crash killed 36 people, most of them children, and turned Milestone School and College, a private institution that had been full of students moments earlier, into a scene of fire and panic within minutes.

The disaster remains the deadliest aviation accident Bangladesh has recorded in several decades.

Earlier this week, relatives and survivors came together to mark the anniversary. Many of the attendees were students who say the trauma of that day continues to shape their daily lives, including Yusha.

She told a local broadcaster that fear still follows her whenever she encounters aircraft. “Even now, if I go to school and see a plane, I feel afraid,” she said. She added that the memory disrupts her sleep and resurfaces in nightmares that place her back in the fire.

Yusha was among more than 160 people injured in the crash. She attended a memorial held at a hospital in Dhaka on Tuesday, where several families said they still lack clear answers about how and why the crash happened.

Her mother, Yasin Akter, said the accident has changed her daughter in ways that go beyond physical injury. Yusha had once hoped to become a dancer, an ambition her mother says has since faded. “My daughter screams all day and is afraid,” Akter said, explaining that her daughter now associates the sky and passing aircraft with danger.

The anniversary gathering highlighted a broader pattern common after major air disasters, where survivors and grieving families continue to seek transparency long after public attention shifts elsewhere. Psychological trauma among child survivors, in particular, tends to persist well beyond the initial recovery period, often requiring sustained mental health support that is not always readily available in the aftermath of large scale emergencies.

Aviation authorities in South Asia have faced scrutiny in recent years over oversight of military and civilian flight paths near populated areas, an issue that has resurfaced in public discussion following the Milestone School crash. Analysts who study aviation safety note that incidents involving military aircraft over densely populated zones often prompt renewed debate about flight corridor planning and emergency response coordination, though structural changes can take years to implement even after a high profile disaster.

For families like Yusha’s, the anniversary was less about policy debate and more about the everyday reality of raising a child who survived a catastrophe that claimed the lives of classmates and teachers. As the investigation into the crash continues, many of those affected say they simply want acknowledgment and clarity on what went wrong, along with continued support as their children work through the lasting effects of that day.

Mirwaiz slams demand to end refugee seats in AJK

Hurriyat leader Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly opposed calls to abolish the reserved legislative seats for Kashmiri refugees living in Pakistan, saying the voting rights of displaced Kashmiris are protected by constitutional and democratic principles and must not be undermined. His remarks came after reports that a banned Action Committee had demanded the abolition of seats reserved for refugees from Indian-administered Kashmir in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) legislative framework. The proposal has sparked debate and criticism from political and social circles on both sides of the Line of Control. In a statement, Mirwaiz said millions of Kashmiri refugees residing in Pakistan have a legitimate constitutional and democratic right to participate in the electoral process, adding that these rights cannot be ignored or sacrificed. “The voting rights of Kashmiri refugees are an integral part of their constitutional and democratic rights,” he said, stressing that displaced Kashmiris deserve equal respect, representation and protection. Mirwaiz argued that the rights of refugees are inseparable from the collective rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. He maintained that any political movement claiming to represent Kashmiris must ensure equal representation for residents of every region and community without discrimination. He warned that protecting the interests of one group should never come at the cost of another group’s constitutional rights. According to the Hurriyat leader, justice, equality and mutual respect must remain the guiding principles in resolving issues affecting the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Calling for dialogue, Mirwaiz urged all stakeholders to engage in consultations and meaningful discussions to find a balanced and widely acceptable solution. He said consensus-based decision-making was essential to preserving unity and protecting the democratic rights of all Kashmiris. The statement also criticized attempts to alter the existing representation of Kashmiri refugees, arguing that such moves risk deepening divisions rather than strengthening democratic participation. The controversy over refugee seats has emerged during a politically sensitive period in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with electoral issues drawing increased public attention. While supporters of the proposal argue that reforms are needed, opponents insist that any changes affecting refugee representation must respect constitutional guarantees and the political rights of displaced Kashmiris. Mirwaiz’s intervention adds a prominent voice to the debate, highlighting the need for dialogue and consensus rather than unilateral decisions on issues involving the constitutional and democratic rights of Kashmiri refugees.

Beyond acting, she has also explored singing and fashion design, keeping herself actively involved in creative pursuits throughout her career. In recent years, she has turned her attention to designing clothing and has been promoting her boutique through social media. In a recently shared promotional video, Asma Abbas appeared wearing a striped co-ord outfit from her own fashion collection while introducing designs available at her boutique. Although the video was intended to highlight her latest clothing line, much of the online conversation quickly shifted toward her personal styling instead of the collection itself. The outfit sparked a wave of mixed reactions across social media platforms. While some viewers appreciated her confidence and willingness to wear her own creations, many others expressed disappointment with the overall look. Several users commented that they did not find the design appealing, while others suggested the outfit did not suit her personality or appearance. Among the many comments circulating online, one user remarked that the outfit looked like something from a second-hand clothing market. Another suggested that people should dress in a way that complements their age and personality. A different commenter criticized the look by saying it did not present the actress in the best possible way. As is often the case with celebrity fashion, opinions remained divided. Supporters argued that fashion is subjective and that every designer has a unique creative vision. Bigg Boss season 20 goes multilingual, confirms September premiere

South Asia’s biggest reality TV franchise is making a comeback, and this time, the scale is unprecedented. JioHotstar and Colors TV confirmed on Tuesday that Bigg Boss is returning for its 20th season. They also revealed a new motion logo with a redesigned, multi-coloured eye, marking two decades of the show. The announcement clip kept things minimal, closing simply with “Bigg Boss coming soon.” The accompanying caption leaned into the show’s long run, calling it “still the most eye-conic one” two decades in, and promising the new season, “jald aa raha hai”. A specific premiere date has not been locked in yet. That, however, has not stopped fans from flooding social media with reactions. Comments ranged from pure excitement to specific demands, with several users asking producers to cast genuinely interesting contestants this time, rather than the same recycled reality-TV faces. The bigger story here, though, is the format shift. For the first time, JioStar will roll out six language editions simultaneously including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, and Bangla, all launching together across JioStar’s television network and its streaming platform, JioHotstar. It is a scale of rollout the show has never attempted before, effectively turning Bigg Boss into a pan-regional television event rather than a single-language phenomenon. Each regional edition will have its own celebrity host. Salman Khan continues his long-standing role anchoring the Hindi season, while the other editions bring in heavyweight names from their respective industries. Sourav Ganguly will front the Bangla version, Vijay Sethupathi takes charge of the Tamil edition, Nagarjuna leads the Telugu season, Kichcha Sudeepa hosts the Kannada edition, and Mohanlal fronts the Malayalam version. No official contestant list has been released, but speculations are already running wild online. Names being floated as possible participants include Jannat Zubair, Urfi Javed, Faisal Shaikh, Anjali Arora, Arbaz Patel, and rapper Santy Sharma, though none of this has been confirmed by the makers. With six simultaneous editions, a starry roster of hosts, and a September launch window, Bigg Boss Season 20 is shaping up to be the franchise’s most ambitious outing yet.

Argentina under FIFA scrutiny for World Cup 2026 misconduct

FIFA has launched disciplinary proceedings against Argentina following a series of incidents that allegedly took place during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including player misconduct, political displays, crowd behavior, and security-related concerns. According to reports, several Argentine players and officials are under investigation for their conduct during the tournament, while the Argentine Football Association is also facing scrutiny over alleged breaches of FIFA regulations. One of the key incidents under review occurred during the World Cup final, where Argentine players were involved in an on-field altercation with Spain’s players after the match. The confrontation has led FIFA to investigate the actions of multiple individuals associated with the Argentine team. Midfielder Leandro Paredes is reportedly facing three separate disciplinary cases over his alleged involvement in the post-match clash. Defender Nahuel Molina is the subject of two disciplinary cases, while assistant coach Roberto Ayala is also under investigation in connection with the same incident. In addition, Thiago Almada is expected to face disciplinary action over allegations of inappropriate conduct during the tournament. Apart from the final, FIFA is also examining incidents that occurred after Argentina’s semifinal victory over England. The Argentine Football Association is being investigated over the display of a political banner related to the Falkland Islands by members of the team on the field after the match. FIFA regulations generally prohibit political messages or demonstrations during official competitions, making the incident a significant part of the disciplinary review. The governing body is also looking into several other alleged violations involving Argentina throughout the tournament. These include discriminatory chants by supporters inside stadiums, delays to kick-off times, failures to comply with security protocols, and multiple incidents in which spectators allegedly threw objects onto the field during matches. FIFA’s disciplinary process will assess whether these incidents breached the organization’s disciplinary code and competition regulations. The governing body has informed all individuals and organizations involved that they will be given an opportunity to submit their responses and present their respective positions before any sanctions are imposed. The FIFA Disciplinary Committee will review all available evidence, including official match reports, video footage, witness statements, and the submissions provided by the parties involved. Once the review process is complete, the committee will announce its decision in accordance with FIFA’s disciplinary procedures. At this stage, no final ruling or punishment has been issued. Any potential sanctions against the players, coaching staff, or the Argentine Football Association will depend on the findings of the ongoing investigation and the committee’s final verdict. The disciplinary proceedings highlight FIFA’s continued efforts to enforce its competition rules and ensure that players, officials, teams, and supporters adhere to the standards of conduct expected during the world’s biggest football tournament.
