Modi says he forgives students over protest slogans

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said he forgives students who shouted abusive slogans against him during last month’s nationwide demonstrations, describing them as “misled children” who should be guided instead of punished.

Speaking in a video message, Modi said the protesters had used offensive language against him and his late mother during the demonstrations. Despite that, he said he did not want young people to face legal action or social persecution, stressing that they should be shown the “right path” rather than dragged into lengthy court proceedings.

The protests emerged after controversy surrounding the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET), one of India’s largest competitive examinations. The movement gained momentum after the exam was cancelled because of a paper leak, forcing more than two million students to retake the test. What began as an online campaign for education reforms quickly developed into a nationwide protest movement, drawing thousands of students onto the streets.

The demonstrations eventually ended after the Indian government accepted several key demands, including the resignation of the education minister. Authorities also announced that criminal cases against protesters would not be pursued.

However, reports indicate that police in several states later registered cases against hundreds of demonstrators, particularly those accused of clashing with security personnel or participating in protests where anti-government slogans were raised. The development has sparked criticism from opposition parties and student groups, who argue that it contradicts the government’s earlier assurances.

The protests were accompanied by clashes between demonstrators and security forces in several cities. In New Delhi, police used tear gas, baton charges and other crowd-control measures to stop protesters attempting to march towards parliament.

Some student activists have also alleged that participants, particularly female protesters, became targets of online harassment and threats on social media following the demonstrations. Rights advocates have expressed concern over the growing hostility directed at student activists during the protest movement.

The opposition has intensified pressure on the government, demanding accountability for the police response to the demonstrations. Critics have also questioned the continued registration of cases against protesters despite earlier commitments to withdraw legal action.

Meanwhile, the Indian government has introduced legislation aimed at strengthening laws against examination fraud. The proposed bill seeks tougher penalties, including longer prison terms and heavier fines, for those involved in examination paper leaks.

Hrithik Roshan reacts amid Kangana Ranaut’s CJP controversy

Bollywood actor Hrithik Roshan has found himself back in the headlines after social media users claimed he liked a post mocking Kangana Ranaut amid the actress’ ongoing controversy involving her remarks about the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) and student protests in India. The speculation began after a Reddit user shared a screenshot allegedly showing Hrithik’s verified Instagram account liking a meme directed at Kangana. Although the original Instagram post has since been deleted and the like cannot be independently verified, the screenshot quickly went viral, reigniting public interest in the former co-stars’ long-running feud. The meme referenced Kangana while addressing Hrithik directly. It read, “Hrithik Bhai, you could’ve taken one for the team. Kyun khula chhod diya ise desh par?” The post jokingly suggested that Hrithik should have prevented Kangana from becoming a public figure, prompting widespread discussion online after the alleged like surfaced. The viral claim emerged as Kangana continues to face criticism over her comments regarding student-led protests linked to the NEET paper leak controversy. The actress had criticised the protest videos circulating on social media, describing them as “puke-inducing.” Her remarks led to a public exchange with Cockroach Janta Party spokesperson Saurav Das, whom Kangana criticised by questioning his identity as a student. Speaking about Das, Kangana reportedly said, “I googled this person and he is 28 years old. How he claims to be a student I have no clue!” Responding to the actress, Das issued a statement to ANI, correcting her claims. He said, “Even Google provides incorrect information to Kangana Ranaut. It suggests I am 28, but I am actually 27. I am not a student either; Google would confirm that I am not a student. I am a journalist, and I have never claimed to be an active student. I am a student of life… She should also strive to be one.” While Hrithik has not publicly commented on the controversy, the alleged Instagram activity has fuelled speculation that the actor may have subtly reacted to the ongoing trolling surrounding Kangana. However, because the original post has been deleted, there is no independent confirmation that the like was genuine. Hrithik Roshan and Kangana Ranaut have shared one of Bollywood’s most high-profile public disputes, dating back to 2016. Their feud began after Kangana referred to Hrithik as her “silly ex” during an interview, implying the two had previously been in a relationship. Hrithik strongly denied the claim and sent the actress a legal notice demanding an apology. The dispute later escalated, with Kangana alleging that the actor had pursued her during the filming of Krrish 3, while Hrithik consistently maintained that no romantic relationship had existed between them. Over the years, the legal and public battle between the two actors has remained one of Bollywood’s most talked-about celebrity feuds, and the latest viral social media claim has once again brought their long-standing dispute back into the spotlight.

LHC grants interim bail in Crypto fraud case over …

MULTAN: In a significant development in a cryptocurrency fraud case, the Lahore High Court’s Multan Bench has granted interim bail to Hammad Ali and other co-petitioners, observing that the prosecution has, at this stage, failed to produce sufficient material linking them to the alleged electronic fraud or the freezing of the complainant’s cryptocurrency accounts. Justice Tariq Saleem Sheikh issued the detailed 15-page judgment while hearing the interim bail petitions, emphasizing that the investigation remains underway and that the available record does not disclose prima facie evidence of cheating, fraud, or forgery against the petitioners. According to the judgment, the allegations contained in the First Information Report (FIR) do not appear, at first glance, to establish the offences alleged against the accused. The court noted that no evidence had been placed on record demonstrating the petitioners’ involvement in electronic fraud or showing that they played any role in freezing the complainant’s cryptocurrency accounts. The court further observed that it is the responsibility of the investigating officer to independently examine the role of each individual account holder before reaching any conclusion regarding criminal liability. The judgment stressed that investigations must be conducted impartially and based on verifiable evidence rather than assumptions. Justice Sheikh also noted that the petitioners had already provided the investigating officer with the records requested during the course of the investigation. The investigating officer, the court said, remains free to obtain additional documents from relevant financial institutions or other authorities if further verification is required. The judgment also outlines the complainant’s version of events. According to court records, the complainant initially invested Rs5 million in cryptocurrency. He claimed that a subsequent crash in the cryptocurrency market caused him heavy financial losses. The complainant further alleged that, in an effort to recover those losses, he sold household belongings, his vehicle, and gold jewellery to make additional investments in cryptocurrency. He later claimed that his cryptocurrency accounts were frozen, preventing him from accessing his digital assets. According to the FIR, the complainant then began withdrawing funds through the cryptocurrency accounts of friends. He alleged that the accused obtained cryptocurrency through bank accounts but failed to return the corresponding amount owed to him. After reviewing the available material, the Lahore High Court concluded that there was currently insufficient prima facie evidence directly implicating the petitioners in the alleged offences. On that basis, the court allowed their interim bail petitions while making it clear that the investigation would continue in accordance with the law. The ruling highlights the judiciary’s emphasis on evidence-based investigations in complex financial and cryptocurrency-related disputes, while leaving the final determination of criminal responsibility to the outcome of the ongoing investigation.

Islamiat tops Grade 9, 10 failure list

The Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) Peshawar has released the results of the 2026 annual examinations for Grades 9 and 10.
