British DJ and music producer Fred Again has put his own creative spin on the viral Pakistani hit Pal Pal, originally performed by Afusic and Ali Soomro, introducing the track to an even wider international audience. Ali Soomro shared clips on Instagram showing the Grammy-winning artist performing his remix of Pal Pal during a livestream alongside Mexican music group Latin Mafia. The videos quickly caught the attention of fans, with Soomro expressing his excitement and gratitude over seeing one of the world’s most celebrated DJs embrace a song that began as a passion project. Reflecting on the moment, Soomro said it reminded him of how unexpectedly music can connect people from different parts of the world. He described the experience as surreal, saying that watching Fred Again reinterpret the song made him realize how far Pal Pal had travelled since its humble beginnings. The singer also looked back on the story behind the track, explaining that he and fellow artist Afusic, whose real name is Affan Khan, created Pal Pal simply because they loved making music. According to Soomro, neither of them expected the song to become a major success. Before its release, they had never earned any income from their music and were not trying to follow trends or create a commercial hit. Their only goal was to produce something meaningful that reflected their passion and creativity. Soomro revealed that the journey was filled with hard work and dedication. He recalled spending countless late nights in the studio after completing their regular jobs, often sacrificing personal time to continue working on the song. He remembered how Afusic would arrive at the studio after finishing work, while he would already be there waiting with excitement to continue developing their music together. Those moments, he said, remain among his most treasured memories. The singer also credited Spotify Pakistan for playing an important role in the song’s early success. He explained that when Pal Pal was first added to Spotify playlists, it gave the team confidence and motivation to keep believing in their work. Those early milestones encouraged them to continue pursuing their musical ambitions despite the challenges they faced. Soomro also acknowledged Indian singer-songwriter Talwiinder, who later released his own version of Pal Pal. He thanked the artist for believing in the song and bringing a fresh perspective that helped introduce it to new listeners. According to Soomro, Talwiinder’s contribution added another dimension to the track and played an important role in its growing popularity across borders. Concluding his message, Soomro expressed heartfelt appreciation to his team, collaborators and everyone who supported the project from the beginning. He said the song’s remarkable journey would not have been possible without the collective efforts of those who believed in it. Since its release, Pal Pal has become one of Pakistan’s biggest musical successes. The track was ranked as the second most-streamed song in the country on Spotify Pakistan, reflecting its widespread popularity. Its success also elevated both Afusic and Ali Soomro into Spotify Pakistan’s list of the country’s most-streamed artists, where they secured the eighth and ninth positions respectively, marking a major milestone in their musical careers.

ICC bans USA cricketer Akhilesh Reddy for eight years

DUBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has imposed an eight-year ban on USA off-spinner B Akhilesh Reddy after he was found guilty of multiple breaches of the governing body’s Anti-Corruption Code linked to the 2025 Abu Dhabi T10 tournament. The 26-year-old cricketer, who represented Aspin Stallions during the competition, was charged following an investigation into alleged corrupt activities during the tournament. He had been provisionally suspended in November 2025 while the inquiry was underway. After a formal hearing, the ICC’s Anti-Corruption Tribunal concluded that Reddy had committed several serious offences under the Anti-Corruption Code. According to the ICC, Reddy was found guilty of attempting to improperly influence the outcome, progress or conduct of matches during the Abu Dhabi T10. He was also found to have encouraged another participant to engage in corrupt activities related to match-fixing. In addition, the tribunal ruled that the spinner obstructed the investigation by deleting data and messages from his mobile phone that could have been relevant to the anti-corruption inquiry. As a result of the findings, the ICC banned Reddy from all cricket-related activities for eight years. The sanction has been backdated to November 21, 2025, the date on which his provisional suspension first came into effect. Reddy made his international debut for the United States in April 2025 and went on to play four Twenty20 Internationals for the national team before his career was derailed by the corruption investigation. The case highlights the ICC’s continued efforts to protect the integrity of the sport through strict enforcement of its anti-corruption regulations. The governing body has repeatedly warned players at all levels that any involvement in match manipulation or attempts to obstruct investigations will result in severe penalties. The lengthy suspension effectively sidelines one of USA cricket’s emerging players for the remainder of the decade and serves as a strong reminder of cricket’s zero-tolerance approach to corruption. The ICC has reaffirmed its commitment to preserving the game’s credibility by taking firm action against anyone found guilty of breaching its anti-corruption code.

Norway praises Pakistan’s role in US-Iran peace …

Norway has praised Pakistan for playing an important and constructive role in efforts to promote dialogue between the United States and Iran amid rising tensions in the Middle East. The appreciation came during Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide’s visit to Islamabad, where he held talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar. The Norwegian foreign minister arrived in Pakistan on Thursday for a two-day visit, marking the first visit by a Norwegian foreign minister to the country in around a decade. During delegation-level discussions, Pakistan and Norway reviewed bilateral relations and discussed ways to expand cooperation in several areas, including trade, investment, climate change, renewable energy, maritime affairs and education. The two sides also discussed regional and international developments, with particular attention to the situation in the Middle East. Eide praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts during the recent US-Iran conflict. He specifically acknowledged the contributions of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir in efforts aimed at promoting peace. The Norwegian foreign minister described the ongoing regional conflict as a serious threat to global peace and the international economy. He said Pakistan had taken an important step by engaging with the parties involved and facilitating dialogue. Eide also welcomed Pakistan’s role in hosting and facilitating talks in Islamabad. He said the country’s diplomatic engagement had strengthened its position on the international stage, particularly in peacebuilding efforts. Norway, he added, was prepared to support Pakistan wherever it could contribute to peace initiatives. He noted that Oslo had considerable experience in peace negotiations and maintained communication channels with both Tehran and Washington. The two countries also discussed maritime security and developments concerning the Strait of Hormuz. Eide said Norway’s experience as a major maritime nation could allow it to contribute constructively to discussions on international maritime law and regional maritime issues. Pakistan and Norway also agreed to strengthen economic and people-to-people ties. Eide said Norwegian companies were increasingly exploring opportunities in Pakistan, particularly in the energy and fertiliser sectors. He also highlighted the potential for greater economic cooperation involving Switzerland and Iceland. The Norwegian minister praised the Pakistani community in Norway, saying its integration into Norwegian society had played an important role in strengthening relations between the two countries. The Foreign Office said both sides expressed satisfaction with the friendly nature of Pakistan-Norway relations and agreed to expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest. The visit is also expected to build on recent high-level contacts between the two countries, including discussions between Dar and Eide earlier this year and a visit by Norway’s state secretary to Islamabad in May.

Young people increasingly turn to AI chatbots for emotional support and social advice

Artificial intelligence is becoming an increasingly common source of support for teenagers and young adults as many begin relying on AI-powered chatbots to navigate personal conversations, relationships, and everyday social situations. Recent national studies suggest that around 20 percent of young people now seek guidance from AI companions for emotional support and relationship advice instead of turning to friends, family members, or other trusted individuals. Experts say that the growing popularity of AI chatbots reflects changing communication habits among younger generations. Many users are employing these digital tools to help write difficult text messages, prepare for challenging conversations, and better understand complicated social interactions. For many, artificial intelligence provides a convenient and accessible way to think through personal situations before speaking with others. Researchers have found that many teenagers appreciate AI because it is available at any time of the day or night. Unlike human conversations, interacting with a chatbot does not involve the immediate fear of criticism, embarrassment, or rejection. This constant availability has made AI an appealing option for individuals who may feel anxious about discussing sensitive topics with people in their lives. Clinical psychologist Joshua Goodman believes that AI chatbots can offer users a comfortable environment to explore their thoughts and emotions. He explained that conversations with artificial intelligence may feel like a safe place where young people can discuss issues they might hesitate to share with parents, teachers, or friends. This sense of privacy and emotional comfort has contributed to the increasing use of AI for personal guidance. However, mental health professionals caution that artificial intelligence should not be viewed as a replacement for genuine human relationships. While AI can provide information, suggestions, and conversational support, experts emphasize that it lacks the emotional understanding, empathy, and lived experience that real people bring to meaningful relationships. Clinical psychologist Mary Alvord has warned that although AI conversations may seem safe, users should remember that perceived privacy is different from actual privacy. She pointed out that interactions with chatbots may be stored, analyzed, or processed by technology providers, meaning users should be careful about sharing highly personal or sensitive information. Experts also stress that artificial intelligence cannot fully replicate the complexity of human communication. Media psychologist Don Grant explained that chatbots are generally designed to remain supportive and non-confrontational. While this may make conversations feel comfortable, it also means users may not experience the constructive challenges, disagreements, or honest feedback that often help people develop stronger communication skills and emotional resilience. According to specialists, relying too heavily on AI for social interactions could reduce opportunities to practice real-life communication. Building confidence in conversations, resolving disagreements, and forming lasting friendships require experiences that technology cannot fully provide. Human relationships involve empathy, body language, emotional understanding, and shared experiences that remain difficult for artificial intelligence to reproduce. To encourage a healthy balance, health professionals recommend using AI as a supportive tool rather than a substitute for personal relationships. They advise parents, educators, and young adults to establish clear boundaries regarding AI use while continuing to prioritize conversations with family members, friends, teachers, and mental health professionals when needed. Experts also encourage young people to regularly practice face-to-face communication, participate in social activities, and develop interpersonal skills that strengthen emotional well-being. These experiences help build self-confidence, improve problem-solving abilities, and create meaningful personal connections. As artificial intelligence continues to become part of everyday life, specialists believe it can play a positive role when used responsibly. However, they emphasize that maintaining genuine human relationships remains essential for emotional growth, mental health, and long-term social development. AI may offer convenience and support, but meaningful human connection continues to be irreplaceable.

PTI changes venue for August 5 rally in Peshawar

Peshawar: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has changed the venue for its August 5 public rally, with party leaders announcing that the gathering will now take place at an open ground near the Peshawar Motorway instead of the previously planned location. The decision was made during a PTI parliamentary party meeting held at the Chief Minister’s House in Peshawar. The meeting was chaired by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sualeh Afridi and attended by members of the National Assembly and the Provincial Assembly. Addressing the meeting, Afridi said preparations for the rally were in full swing and responsibilities had been assigned to party lawmakers to ensure the event’s success. He described the August 5 rally as a “semi-final” and a decisive gathering, saying the party would present its future political strategy to the public. According to the chief minister, the venue was shifted to an open ground near the Peshawar Motorway to improve public access and accommodate a larger number of participants. Afridi also reviewed the party’s political efforts since October 15, 2025, stating that PTI had pursued constitutional and legal avenues to resolve political issues through dialogue. He said the party leadership had sought meetings with PTI founder Imran Khan through legal channels, including approaching the Islamabad High Court and the Supreme Court, but those efforts had not produced the desired outcome. He reiterated that PTI remained committed to peaceful political activity and maintained that peaceful protest was the party’s final constitutional option. Afridi also called for better access to Imran Khan by his family, sisters, and personal doctors, while urging authorities to ensure he receives appropriate medical care. The meeting, however, was not without internal disagreements. According to party sources, several lawmakers expressed concerns over the timing of the rally and suggested holding a workers’ convention before launching the movement. Some members argued that the main protest should be organized in Punjab rather than Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to increase political pressure on the federal government. The reported differences led to a heated exchange during the meeting, with some dissatisfied lawmakers leaving before it concluded. Party sources said the chief minister assured members that their concerns would be addressed. The August 5 rally is expected to be one of PTI’s most significant political events in recent months as the party seeks to outline its next phase of political action.

Former India captain Sourav Ganguly and wife receive death threats

KOLKATA: Former India captain and ex-BCCI president Sourav Ganguly and his wife, Dona Ganguly, have reportedly received death threats, prompting police to launch an investigation into a series of threatening letters sent to the family. According to Indian media reports, a fresh threatening letter was opened on Monday at the office of the president of the Bengal Cricket Association. The letter was reportedly written entirely in English and contained threats against Ganguly and his family. The latest incident has raised concern because the family has allegedly been receiving similar letters for around six months. Initially, the messages were reportedly dismissed as letters from overzealous or unhappy fans. However, the increasingly aggressive language and repeated threats eventually prompted the family to approach police. A formal written complaint has been submitted to the local police station by Ganguly’s family. The state government’s security department has also reportedly been informed, with the family seeking appropriate security measures. The complaint stated that unknown individuals had previously sent letters containing offensive and objectionable remarks about the former India captain. At first, the messages were believed to be linked to personal resentment or someone unhappy with Ganguly. The situation took a more serious turn when two recent letters addressed to Sourav and Dona Ganguly reportedly contained threatening language targeting not only the couple but also people working with them. Police sources said their preliminary inquiry indicated that the threatening letters had been sent by courier to Ganguly’s residence. Authorities have assured Ganguly’s personal assistant that an investigation is underway and that necessary steps are being taken to ensure the safety of the former cricketer and his family. Ganguly, one of India’s most influential cricket figures, served as national captain before later becoming BCCI president. The latest threats have now placed his family under increased security attention as investigators work to identify those behind the letters.
