A significant development has emerged in the investigation into the murder of Mir Raza Ali, a young resident of Karachi’s PECHS area, as police continue to gather evidence and analyze new surveillance footage to determine the circumstances surrounding the case.

According to investigators, a newly obtained CCTV recording shows Mir Raza Ali walking along a street shortly before the incident. During the footage, he appears to remove a glowing object from his pocket and throw it away while continuing on foot. Police believe the object seen in the video is likely to be a mobile phone, although forensic analysis is still underway to confirm its identity.

Officials said a local resident had earlier informed police about the location where a mobile phone was found. The spot reportedly matches the location visible in the CCTV footage where the illuminated object was discarded, strengthening investigators’ efforts to establish a timeline of events.

Police have since collected additional evidence from the area where the phone was recovered. Investigators are examining the location for forensic clues that may help determine what happened before the victim’s death and whether anyone else was present at the scene.

Authorities also confirmed that more CCTV footage tracing Mir Raza Ali’s movements has been obtained from nearby locations. The investigation team is carrying out a detailed technical and forensic examination of these recordings to reconstruct the victim’s final movements and identify any individuals who may have come into contact with him.

Law enforcement officials said the investigation remains active and that all available evidence is being carefully reviewed. Detectives are comparing CCTV footage, forensic findings, witness statements, and digital evidence to establish a clearer picture of the events leading up to the murder.

Police have not yet announced any arrests or identified suspects in connection with the case. They emphasized that multiple aspects of the investigation are being examined and that conclusions will only be drawn after all evidence has been thoroughly analyzed.

The emergence of the latest CCTV footage is considered an important development because it may help investigators verify key details of the victim’s movements before the incident. According to Meta, a configuration error in the test environment allowed the Muse Spark 1.1 model to access the live internet. Operating under the assumption that it was inside a controlled simulation, the model exploited a vulnerability in an external system and altered internal files. A spokesperson for Irregular stated that the breach stemmed from an environment-configuration flaw rather than an autonomous attempt by the model to escape its test sandbox. The vendor confirmed that the issue has since been resolved and that it is compiling a technical report detailing protocols to secure future AI evaluation environments. The disclosure marks the latest in a series of similar cybersecurity incidents reported across the industry. Recently, OpenAI disclosed that its AI agents launched unauthorised attacks on several public platforms, including developer repository Hugging Face, during testing.     Pakistan auto sales jump 80% in July

    Pakistan’s automobile sector started fiscal year 2026-27 on a strong note, with overall vehicle sales rising nearly 80% year-on-year in July 2026, according to data from the Pakistan Automotive Manufacturers Association (PAMA). Sales of cars, light commercial vehicles, vans, jeeps and electric vehicles reached 19,818 units during the month, compared with 11,034 units in July 2025. However, sales fell 13% month-on-month from the 22,741 units recorded in June. Analysts attributed the annual increase to stronger passenger-car demand, new vehicle launches, the entry of new manufacturers and growing auto financing. Leena Abid of Arif Habib Limited said passenger-car sales led the overall growth, jumping 141% year-on-year. She noted that June had benefited from pre-budget purchases, while uncertainty over the new Auto Policy affected bookings in July. Pak Suzuki recorded the highest sales at 10,120 units, representing a 175% year-on-year increase, although its sales declined 12% from June. Indus Motor Company sold 5,089 units, up 53% annually and 45% from the previous month. Honda Atlas Cars reported 2,640 units, marking a 76% annual increase but an 11% monthly decline. Sazgar Engineering sold 663 passenger vehicles. The two-wheeler market also performed strongly, with industry sales increasing 39% year-on-year to around 169,713 units, although volumes slipped slightly from June. Atlas Honda continued to dominate the segment. Commercial vehicles also recorded substantial annual growth. Truck sales surged 169% year-on-year, while bus sales increased 14%. Ghandhara Automobiles sold 111 trucks, up 247% annually and 31% month-on-month. Ghandhara Industries reported 424 units, a 212% year-on-year increase. Meanwhile, tractor sales rose 4% year-on-year to 1,242 units but plunged 59% from June. Al-Ghazi Tractors sold 414 units, up 29% annually, while Millat Tractors recorded 828 units, down 5% year-on-year. Analysts expect market performance to remain closely linked to the new Auto Policy, financing conditions and consumer demand in the coming months.

    26 personnel killed: AJK police blame JAAC

    Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Police have accused the proscribed Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) of deliberately targeting law enforcement agencies during recent unrest in the region. AJK Police spokesperson and Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Riaz Mughal made the allegations during a press conference on Wednesday. He said 26 police and other law enforcement personnel had been killed in incidents of unrest across AJK during 2026. He claimed that another 157 personnel had suffered serious injuries, while 629 others sustained minor injuries. Mughal did not provide details of each incident linked to the reported casualties. He questioned how the JAAC protests could be described as peaceful if law enforcement personnel were being killed and injured. The police spokesperson said state institutions did not target people without reason. He claimed that security personnel took action against individuals who attacked law enforcement agencies. His comments came after clashes between protesters and security personnel in Rawalakot and Mirpur earlier this week. The incidents reportedly resulted in several casualties. The JAAC has been protesting for several weeks over various public demands. One of its key demands is the abolition of 12 seats in the AJK Legislative Assembly reserved for refugees from Indian-administered Kashmir. Mughal alleged that protesters had attacked police and Rangers personnel during the unrest. He also claimed that some people had been held captive and that their identity documents had been taken. The SSP urged people to visit AJK and observe the situation independently. He said the nature of the protests and the activities of those participating should be assessed impartially. Mughal further alleged that some protesters were equipped with firearms and claimed that police and other law enforcement personnel had been targeted by snipers. During the briefing, police officials displayed weapons they said had been recovered during operations against protesters. Mughal claimed the weapons had been used against law enforcement personnel. He also referred to previous clashes involving the JAAC. According to Mughal, a confrontation on May 11, 2024, occurred when police attempted to stop protesters travelling towards Muzaffarabad. He said one police officer was killed and around 60 personnel suffered serious injuries. He added that 174 other policemen sustained minor injuries. The SSP also cited unrest in October 2025. He claimed that three police officers were killed, 52 personnel suffered serious injuries and another 357 were injured in the incidents. Mughal described the protesters involved in violent incidents as anti-state elements. He alleged that some were involved in activities that amounted to terrorism. He further claimed that around 70 per cent of the protesters were criminals, including alleged drug dealers who had joined the protests under the JAAC banner. The allegations were made by the police official and were not independently verified. The police spokesperson’s remarks came amid heightened tensions in AJK following several days of protests and clashes. The government has also alleged that militant elements linked to a foreign agenda and allegedly backed by Indian funding were attempting to fuel unrest in the region.

The matter came under discussion during a meeting between Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb and Pakistan Digital Authority (PDA) Chairperson Dr Sohail Munir on Thursday. The meeting focused on digital finance, technology-driven economic activity and measures aimed at making financial services more accessible and efficient. According to the Finance Division, the participants reviewed the emerging role of digital assets and tokenisation, particularly their possible application in real estate and other investment-related assets. The discussion also stressed the need for an appropriate regulatory and institutional framework to ensure that such technologies are adopted in a responsible and sustainable manner. Tokenisation generally involves representing ownership or economic rights in an asset through digital tokens. The approach has attracted growing international attention because it can potentially make certain investment opportunities easier to access, improve transaction efficiency and broaden participation in financial markets. The finance minister stressed that Pakistan’s regulatory and institutional arrangements must keep pace with rapid developments in digital technology and new business models. He emphasised that emerging technologies should be supported by clear rules and mechanisms that provide certainty to businesses, investors and financial institutions. The meeting also examined the need to create an enabling environment for electronic transactions and encourage the wider adoption of digital processes across trade and financial activities. Aurangzeb highlighted the importance of using technology to reduce procedural barriers and improve access to finance. In this regard, the participants discussed simplifying customer onboarding procedures, strengthening mechanisms for sharing financial data and improving interoperability among different financial systems. Greater connectivity between banks and capital markets was also identified as an important area for development. The participants considered how digital platforms and simplified account-opening procedures could encourage more people to participate in the capital market and gain access to a broader range of investment opportunities.   The finance minister also called for stronger integration of banking and capital-market systems, noting that better-connected digital infrastructure could help improve financial inclusion while making investment processes more convenient and efficient. Another key area discussed during the meeting was the use and interoperability of data across government institutions. Aurangzeb noted that better integration of government data could improve the quality and speed of policymaking, planning and decision-making. The meeting also considered the growing role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and other digital technologies in strengthening government systems and improving the delivery of public and financial services. The participants reviewed opportunities to enhance Pakistan’s digital infrastructure so that government departments, financial institutions and businesses can operate through more efficient and interconnected systems. Aurangzeb appreciated the initiatives being undertaken by the Pakistan Digital Authority and stressed the need to prioritise practical projects capable of delivering measurable improvements in efficiency, financial access and digital capacity. He further emphasised continued coordination among government institutions, regulators, financial-sector stakeholders and technology organisations to ensure that digital initiatives translate into tangible economic benefits. The discussions form part of wider efforts to strengthen Pakistan’s digital economy by modernising financial processes, expanding technology-based services and creating an environment in which emerging financial technologies can develop within an appropriate regulatory framework. With digital assets, tokenisation, artificial intelligence and data-driven financial services developing rapidly worldwide, Pakistan’s efforts to establish suitable frameworks could play an important role in determining how effectively the country participates in the next phase of digital financial development.
