Fawad Blames PML-N, PPP for political deadlock

Former federal minister Fawad Chaudhry said Pakistan cannot move forward politically or economically as long as the country’s two major ruling parties, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), continue to dominate national politics. Speaking to reporters in Islamabad, Fawad criticized former president Asif Ali Zardari and former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, arguing that their continued influence has prevented the country from making meaningful progress. He said Pakistan would struggle to achieve stability and development unless it moved beyond what he described as the traditional political leadership. Fawad also took aim at Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s economic record. He noted that Shehbaz has presented a total of 17 budgets during his political career, including 12 as chief minister of Punjab and five at the federal level. He questioned what new solutions the prime minister could still offer after overseeing so many budgets. Commenting on constitutional reforms, Fawad said he supports the transfer of administrative powers, adding that decentralization could strengthen governance if implemented effectively. Addressing the broader political situation, he stressed that any genuine national dialogue must include the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), who remains in prison. Fawad said the PTI founder is the country’s most influential political leader and should be engaged in talks as a Pakistani citizen. He added that he shares a long political association with the PTI founder and believes meaningful negotiations cannot succeed without his participation. Former Sindh governor Imran Ismail, who was also present during the media interaction, said he has submitted a request to meet the PTI founder. According to Ismail, he intends to discuss proposals related to the creation of new provinces and seek his opinion on the issue before moving forward with any political discussions.

D4vd’s Apple Music hacked during court hearing

American singer d4vd’s Apple Music account was reportedly hacked after an unauthorised track appeared on his artist profile while he was attending a preliminary court hearing in the murder case linked to the death of teenager Celeste Rivas Hernandez. The incident quickly drew attention online as fans noticed unusual activity on the singer’s streaming page. According to screenshots obtained by TMZ, d4vd’s Apple Music profile briefly displayed a fake song titled I DID IT…, which had not been officially released by the artist. Fans soon linked the track to an unreleased demo believed to be called Celeste, sparking widespread speculation across social media. Although the demo was never officially released, listeners recognised parts of its lyrics. One of the lines reportedly heard in the leaked track reads, “Oh Celeste, the girl with my name tattooed on her chest.” The appearance of the song during the ongoing court proceedings further fuelled online discussion surrounding the case. The reported hack came as d4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, attended preliminary hearings in Los Angeles Superior Court. Prosecutors are presenting evidence in a case accusing Burke of murdering 13-year-old Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who was found dead in 2025. He has denied the allegations, and the legal proceedings remain ongoing. During the fourth day of hearings on July 24, prosecutors presented text messages exchanged between Burke and Rivas Hernandez in January 2024. The messages reportedly discussed a pregnancy and abortion. According to court records, Rivas Hernandez wrote, “Both of us aren’t able to take care of it.” Burke allegedly replied, “I know but still.” Prosecutors displayed the messages as part of the evidence supporting the case against the singer. Authorities allege that Rivas Hernandez was killed in April 2025 at Burke’s Hollywood Hills home. Her remains were discovered several months later, in September 2025, inside a Tesla registered to the singer. Following an investigation, officials ruled her death a homicide. Burke was arrested on April 17, 2026, nearly a year after investigators concluded that the teenager had been killed on April 23, 2025. He now faces murder charges, and the case continues to move through the court system. The unauthorised upload on his Apple Music profile has added another layer of public attention to an already high-profile legal case, though there is no indication that the singer was connected to the apparent hack.

Germany hunts terror suspect after Berlin pride cr…

German authorities launched a national manhunt on Sunday for an individual suspected of ploughing a minivan into a crowd near a huge LGBTQ Pride gathering in Berlin, killing one person and injuring 29 others. The attack occurred in Tiergarten park near the Brandenburg Gate at approximately 10 pm, close to one of Europe’s largest annual LGBTQ celebrations, Christopher Street Day. The incident is the latest in a series of vehicle attacks on crowds in Germany that have intensified debate around security and immigration amid a surge in support for the far-right. Chancellor Friedrich Merz urged Germans to protect liberal values, stating: “We will defend the freedom, openness, and liberal spirit of our lives and our society with everything we can do.” It remains unclear whether the perpetrator acted alone, as police said more than one person may have exited the van. Berlin broadcaster RBB reported that an Iranian who had been a passenger in the vehicle had been arrested. The fire service confirmed that three of the injured were in a life-threatening condition. The attack comes at a sensitive time for Merz’s unpopular coalition government, which is undergoing a bruising cabinet reshuffle amid criticism of its effectiveness. The far-right Alternative for Germany party, campaigning on immigration and security, was quick to comment on the attack. AfD co-chief Tino Chrupalla said on X: “We will not allow religious extremists to divide our country with violence and intolerance!” Germany has experienced several vehicle attacks in recent years. In May, a man believed to have mental health problems drove into a pedestrian zone in Leipzig, killing two and injuring three. In 2016, a Tunisian failed asylum seeker hijacked a truck and drove it into a busy Christmas market, killing 11 people. At the Tiergarten park, people lit candles and left flowers in memory of the victim. The investigation is ongoing, with authorities working to determine the full circumstances of the attack. The incident has once again raised questions about security measures at public events and the broader challenges of preventing such acts of violence. The government faces increasing pressure to address these concerns while upholding the country’s commitment to openness and tolerance. As the manhunt continues, the nation mourns the loss of life and hopes for the recovery of those injured in this senseless act of violence. The coming days will be crucial in determining the motives behind the attack and ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. The international community has expressed solidarity with Germany, offering support in the aftermath of the tragedy. The attack serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing threat of extremism and the need for continued vigilance to protect public safety.
