Pakistan, Malaysia agree to boost cooperation agai…

Pakistan and Malaysia have agreed to strengthen joint efforts against terrorism, drug trafficking and human trafficking while enhancing intelligence sharing between the two countries.

Malaysian Interior Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail met his Pakistani counterpart, Mohsin Naqvi, in Islamabad. The two ministers also held delegation-level talks during which they discussed a range of security and law-enforcement issues.

The two sides agreed to increase cooperation to prevent drug trafficking, illegal immigration and cybercrime. They also discussed greater intelligence sharing to support action against terrorists and drug traffickers.

Both countries agreed to develop a more effective joint strategy to counter terrorism, narcotics and human trafficking. They also expressed their commitment to improving coordination to prevent illegal immigration and cyber-related crimes.

During the meeting, Pakistan and Malaysia decided to establish a joint working group to strengthen institutional ties between their interior ministries.

The two sides also agreed to expand cooperation between Pakistan’s National Police Academy and the Royal Malaysia Police College. Training programmes and the exchange of expertise in law enforcement were also discussed.

Cooperation between the two countries’ coast guard authorities was another key area discussed during the meeting. Mohsin Naqvi said Pakistan wanted to benefit from Malaysia’s experience in the coast guard sector.

Speaking during the meeting, the Pakistani interior minister said Pakistan was committed to playing its role in the global fight against terrorism. He also described Malaysia as one of the rapidly developing countries in the Muslim world.

The two ministers also discussed ways to promote tourism between Pakistan and Malaysia and improve visa facilities for travellers.

Naqvi said Malaysia was an attractive tourism destination for Pakistani citizens and stressed the importance of making travel easier between the two countries.

He also said an increase in Malaysia’s work quota for Pakistanis would allow more Pakistani workers to travel to the country through legal channels.

According to a statement issued by Pakistan’s Ministry of Interior, a high-level Pakistani delegation will visit Malaysia soon to further strengthen bilateral cooperation.

TTAP condemns police violence against protesters in Lahore

LAHORE: Chief Organiser Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Ayin-e-Pakistan (TTAP) Punjab Ammar Ali Jan and Information Secretary TTAP Punjab Shayan Bashir have condemned the indiscriminate police violence unleashed on peaceful demonstrators outside Aiwan-e-Adl on Wednesday, saying that three years after his incarceration Imran Khan remains the most popular leader in the country and a unifying symbol whose standing continues to terrify the illegitimate rulers of this province. They said the day marked the abandonment of even the pretence that Article 16 of the Constitution still stands in Punjab. Thousands of citizens, workers, lawyers and civil society members had assembled outside the courts when police baton-charged the gathering without provocation, striking women and children present at the site. PTI Lahore President Mian Akram Usman and MPA Sheikh Imtiaz were manhandled, their clothing torn in public view. More than fifty workers, along with sitting members of the Punjab Assembly, were taken into custody. “A government that will not answer an application on paper has chosen to answer it with lathis in the street,” Bashir said. “PTI Lahore applied in writing to the Lahore Deputy Commissioner for permission to assemble peacefully. The administration returned silence. Today it returned batons.” The protests were not confined to Lahore. Demonstrations were held in Faisalabad, Multan, Rawalpindi, Kasur, Jhang, Kamalia in Toba Tek Singh and other districts across Punjab. The state’s own conduct is the measure of what it fears. Permission was refused across three provinces, a courthouse precinct was baton-charged and elected legislators were dragged into custody, all on account of a man who has been in a cell since 2023. Nobody deploys that against a spent force. Ammar Ali Jan said the beating was not aimed at one party alone. “When the state clubs women, children and elected representatives outside a courthouse, it is not policing a crowd, it is informing ordinary people that the Constitution was written for somebody else,” he said. “A right that survives only until the administration is irritated by it is not a right at all.” The warning had already been given. Amnesty International said on Tuesday that ahead of the anniversary gatherings the authorities must facilitate the right to peaceful protest and ensure there was no repeat of unlawful and arbitrary arrests. Punjab read that warning and did the opposite within twenty four hours. The violence reached beyond political workers. Aaj TV court reporter Natiq Rehan was assaulted by police while covering the rally and placed in a prisoners van, filmed and reported in the press. When the state beats the witness alongside the demonstrator, it has said plainly what it wants kept off the record. The leaders demanded the immediate release of every detained worker and legislator, registration of cases against the officers who ordered and carried out the operation, and a judicial inquiry into the conduct of the Lahore administration.

Michael Jackson estate wins ruling in child trafficking lawsuit

Michael Jackson’s estate has secured a significant legal victory in a lawsuit filed by four siblings who accused the late pop icon of sexually abusing and trafficking them when they were minors. The case was brought earlier this year by siblings Edward, Dominic, Marie-Nicole and Aldo Cascio against the estate of Jackson, who died in 2009 at the age of 50. The siblings claimed that the singer had groomed and brainwashed them during their childhood and alleged that they were subjected to sexual abuse and trafficking. The Cascio siblings had a close relationship with Jackson while growing up and have previously described themselves as part of his “second family.” Their connection with the singer became the focus of legal proceedings after they made allegations against him and subsequently reached a settlement with his estate. In 2019, Jackson’s estate agreed to pay the siblings $3.5 million as part of a settlement. The agreement did not include any admission of wrongdoing by the estate or acknowledge the allegations made against the late singer. The siblings later attempted to challenge the settlement, arguing that the agreement should be declared invalid and unenforceable. They claimed they had been pressured or coerced into signing the deal and sought to pursue their allegations through the court system. However, their effort to bring the dispute before a public trial has now been rejected. On Wednesday, August 12, Judge Hernán D. Vera ruled that the legal dispute must be resolved through confidential arbitration instead of proceeding as a public court case. The decision represents a major victory for Jackson’s estate, as arbitration generally keeps legal proceedings private and limits the matter from moving forward through a public trial. According to court papers obtained by Billboard, Judge Vera acknowledged the seriousness of the allegations but concluded that the existing agreement required the dispute to be handled through arbitration. “Although the allegations are horrific, the court is without discretion to do aught but enforce the language of the arbitration clause,” the court stated. The ruling does not determine whether the allegations made by the Cascio siblings are true or false. Instead, it focuses on the legal terms of the 2019 settlement and whether the dispute must follow the arbitration provision contained in that agreement. The siblings’ allegations have nevertheless brought renewed attention to Jackson’s relationships with children and families who were close to him during his lifetime. Jackson, one of the most influential entertainers in music history, faced allegations of sexual misconduct during his career, though he consistently denied wrongdoing. The latest ruling means that the Cascio siblings’ dispute with Jackson’s estate will now continue, if at all, through a private arbitration process rather than a public courtroom trial. The outcome of that process could determine whether their challenge to the 2019 settlement has any further legal consequences.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi hits maiden fifty as India be…

India wonderkid Vaibhav Sooryavanshi scored a maiden Twenty20 international half-century in a seven-wicket victory over Zimbabwe in Harare on Thursday. Put in to bat after losing the toss, Zimbabwe made a meager 125-7 in 20 overs, with all-rounder Wessly Madhevere top-scoring with 39. Led by the 15-year-old prodigy, who struck four sixes and four fours in an 18-ball 50, India cruised to 126-3 with 40 balls to spare. Sooryavanshi became the youngest cricketer to represent India by debuting in a 4-0 T20I drubbing by England this month, scoring 42 runs in three innings. After his whirlwind 50 in Harare, he was out when he got a thick outside edge to a Richard Ngarava delivery and was caught at deep third man by Ben Curran. He departed with the tourists at 68-2. Then, wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan (35) and unbeaten captain Shreyas Iyer (28 not out) ensured India ended a dismal recent T20I run. Before four losses in England, one by an Indian record 125 runs, the reigning T20I world champions lost another series 2-0 in Ireland. Victory at Harare Sports Club was a welcome relief for Iyer, ending a seven-match winless run since he inherited the captaincy. “I think the boys were tremendous. Could not have been happier with my first win,” the skipper told reporters. “There was bounce from a good length and it was also variable. I felt it was there in both innings. We are going to play two more matches here, so this performance gives everyone some confidence.” Earlier, Madhevere was run out after a 58-run sixth-wicket stand with Tadiwanashe Marumani (27 not out). An unwise attempt to secure a second run led to his downfall. India’s bowlers kept Zimbabwe’s batsmen in check, limiting them to a below-par total that proved insufficient against a strong Indian batting lineup. The victory gives India a 1-0 lead in the three-match series, with the second T20I scheduled to take place in the coming days. Sooryavanshi’s explosive innings has been the talk of the cricketing world, with many hailing the teenager as a future star. His ability to score at a rapid pace and play fearless cricket has drawn comparisons to some of the game’s greats. The Indian team will be looking to build on this momentum and secure a series win, while Zimbabwe will aim to bounce back and level the series. The match also marked a positive start for Iyer’s captaincy, as he looks to lead India to success in the shortest format. The series continues to provide exciting cricketing action, with fans eagerly awaiting the next fixtures as both teams battle for supremacy. The win also boosts India’s confidence as they prepare for future challenges, with the T20 World Cup on the horizon. The young Indian team has shown its potential, and Sooryavanshi’s emergence adds depth and excitement to the squad, promising a bright future for Indian cricket.

Kaia Gerber reveals she underwent an exorcism as a child

Model and actress Kaia Gerber has made a startling revelation about her childhood, saying she underwent an unusual exorcism after her mother, supermodel Cindy Crawford, feared she might be possessed. The 24-year-old opened up about the experience during an interview on The Mitch Churi Chat Show, where she was promoting Ryan Murphy’s upcoming series The Shards. Gerber also spoke about her long-standing fascination with supernatural experiences and encounters. Gerber said she had been told as a child that she was possessed and described herself as having been “haunted” throughout her life. She then revealed that an exorcism had actually been performed on her. According to the actress, the ritual involved a didgeridoo being played around her. “I’ve never talked about it, but that actually did happen,” Gerber said while recalling the unusual childhood experience. Her comments also brought attention to her connection with supernatural themes. During her appearance in American Horror Story: Double Feature, Crawford reportedly took precautions because of concerns about the show’s subject matter. Gerber said her mother gave her holy water during the production because she worried that her daughter could become possessed. The revelation comes as Gerber has also been speaking more openly about the pressures she has faced growing up as the daughter of one of the world’s most recognisable models. In a recent interview, she discussed the constant comparisons between herself and Crawford, particularly regarding their physical appearances. Gerber said such comparisons affected how she viewed her own body and admitted that she had sometimes felt jealous of her mother’s figure. The actress explained that comments about her appearance have been difficult because people often expect her to discuss her body publicly. Gerber has also attracted attention for her relationship with actor Lewis Pullman. The couple reportedly began dating in early 2025 after her relationship with Austin Butler ended. More recently, Gerber described her relationship with Pullman in highly positive terms, saying she values being able to remain herself rather than changing her personality depending on whether she is with a partner, friends or colleagues.
