Pakistan, Türkiye unite for Palestine

Pakistan and Türkiye have reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Palestinian people while expressing deep concern over the worsening humanitarian crisis in Gaza, continued military operations in the occupied Palestinian territories, and repeated violations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound.

The commitment came during a telephone conversation between Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan. The two leaders reviewed the latest regional and international developments, with the situation in Palestine dominating their discussions.

Both foreign ministers voiced serious concern over the continued violence in Gaza and the occupied West Bank, warning that the deteriorating humanitarian conditions require immediate international attention. They also condemned repeated violations at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in occupied East Jerusalem and stressed the need to protect religious and historical sites.

The ministers reiterated their support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and discussed Jordan’s proposal to convene a meeting of Arab and Islamic countries aimed at coordinating diplomatic efforts to address the crisis and strengthen international support for Palestine.

The discussion follows Pakistan’s recent diplomatic engagements with several regional partners, including Egypt, where officials also called for an immediate ceasefire, unrestricted humanitarian assistance, and greater diplomatic coordination to end the ongoing conflict.

Meanwhile, fresh violence was reported in Gaza despite an existing ceasefire, with Palestinian medical officials reporting casualties and injuries following new attacks. Military operations and raids also continued across the occupied West Bank, adding to concerns over the worsening security and humanitarian situation.

    HANGU: Pakistani authorities have registered a terrorism case following a deadly drone attack on the Khazina Banda police checkpost in Hangu, where officials say militants carried out a coordinated assault that left several police personnel dead and dozens injured. The FIR claims that 15 militants were killed during the retaliatory operation carried out by police. The attack also caused significant damage to government property. Police said the militants destroyed or damaged three armoured vehicles, along with other official vehicles and infrastructure at the checkpost. Investigators have launched a detailed probe to identify all individuals involved in planning and executing the assault. Officials said evidence is being collected from the attack site, while intelligence agencies are assisting in tracing the network behind the operation. The incident underscores the continuing security challenges facing law enforcement personnel in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where militant attacks have increased in recent years. Authorities have vowed to bring all those responsible to justice, reaffirming that counterterrorism operations will continue against militant groups threatening public safety and national security. Officials also paid tribute to the police officers who lost their lives, describing their sacrifice as a testament to the force’s commitment to protecting citizens and maintaining peace in the region.

    Attack on one, defence of all: Makkah pact

    Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan have signed a joint defence agreement aimed at strengthening collective security and defence capabilities among the three countries. According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the agreement was signed during a trilateral joint defence summit held in Makkah. Under the pact, an armed attack against any one of the three countries will be treated as an attack against all three. The Foreign Office said the agreement is aimed at strengthening the three countries’ collective defence capabilities against any act of aggression. The development came after Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman in Makkah. Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir and other members of the Pakistani delegation also attended the meeting. The leaders discussed the regional situation and ways to further strengthen the strategic partnership between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Earlier, a trilateral summit involving Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye was scheduled to take place in Jeddah, with expectations of important developments concerning regional peace and security. According to Turkish media reports, the three countries were set to sign an agreement concerning regional security during the summit. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan also arrived in Saudi Arabia to participate in the high-level meeting. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir had arrived in Saudi Arabia a day earlier at the invitation of the Saudi Crown Prince. During their visit, the Pakistani delegation also performed Umrah and offered prayers at the Holy Kaaba.

Several European nations have already introduced temporary flexibilities or experienced tech issues, with automated border booths in France failing to function and Greece opting to exempt British nationals from additional biometric checks. Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has held discussions with EU commissioners and French counterparts regarding cross-Channel concerns, particularly at French border posts situated in the UK, such as the Port of Dover. To mitigate severe queueing, French border police have temporarily suspended fingerprinting and photography for car passengers at ferry ports and the Eurotunnel terminal. Consequently, queue times at Dover have remained manageable, staying under 40 minutes despite heavy traffic volumes. Meanwhile, airlines such as easyJet are pressing the EU to extend border flexibility through the end of October to prevent further travel disruption.
