Pattaya Police Confused After Motorcycle Taxi Driver Brings Bat to Police Station Seeking Help
PATTAYA, Thailand – At 12:10 a.m. on August 13th, 2026, a 45-year-old motorcycle taxi driver known as Decha arrived at Pattaya City Police Station carrying a cardboard box and asking officers for assistance, leaving the on-duty police and other people at the station puzzled.
When officers questioned him and opened the box, they found a large bat (fruit bat) inside, creating a moment of bewilderment inside the station.
Decha explained that while working in Soi Buakhao, he spotted the bat lying in the middle of the road, unable to fly away. Fearing it would be run over by passing vehicles, he stopped, carefully placed the animal in a cardboard box for protection, and tried to contact various agencies for help. Unable to find a place that would take the bat, he decided to bring it to the police station, hoping officers could coordinate with the relevant authorities or find a way to assist the animal.

Police advised Decha to release the bat back into a safe natural area so it could return to its habitat and gave suggestions of aid organizations. Animal rescue teams were also called and consulted.

The late-night incident drew smiles and surprise from those present at the station. It also showed the compassion of the motorcycle taxi driver, who refused to abandon even a creature he encountered on the road and went to great lengths to help it.
