Trainee doctors’ stipend dispute reaches Senate,…

Islamabad: The Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination has taken serious notice of complaints by trainee doctors regarding unpaid or reduced stipends and directed authorities to protect the rights of young doctors working in training programmes. During the meeting held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti, the Committee reviewed the implementation of its previous recommendations regarding the College of Physicians and Surgeons Pakistan (CPSP). Members observed that earlier directions issued by the Committee had not been implemented in their true spirit and directed CPSP to ensure complete compliance. The matter became serious when a delegation of 14 trainee doctors from Sobhraj Maternity Hospital appeared before the Committee and alleged that the hospital was not following the stipend directions issued by the Ministry and CPSP. The trainee doctors claimed they were being paid below the prescribed stipend amount, creating financial difficulties for doctors already working in demanding medical training environments. Taking notice of the complaints, Chairman Committee Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti directed the Ministry of National Health Services to coordinate with the provincial government and resolve the issue without delay. He also directed CPSP to register the affected doctors from the date they joined, ensuring their training status and rights were properly recognized. CPSP officials informed the Committee that necessary directions had already been issued to affiliated institutions regarding the implementation of the Committee’s recommendations. The Committee appreciated the steps taken by CPSP but emphasized that instructions must be followed practically at the institutional level so trainee doctors do not face difficulties. The Committee was also informed that the issue of revising trainee doctors’ stipends was currently awaiting approval from the Prime Minister. The Secretary of National Health Services informed members about the pending approval process regarding the revision of stipends for trainees. The Committee’s action comes amid wider concerns about healthcare conditions and the challenges faced by medical professionals during training. Chairman Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti also directed that the Committee should visit different provinces to examine the healthcare system and meet relevant stakeholders. The first visit will be to Punjab, with the next Committee meeting scheduled in Lahore. The Senate Committee directed the concerned ministries and organizations to submit progress reports on the matters discussed before the next meeting, making it clear that implementation of decisions would be closely monitored.

Ranbir Kapoor hits back at online critics of ‘Ramayana’ VFX

Ranbir Kapoor has pushed back against online criticism surrounding the visual effects of his upcoming film “Ramayana”. The debate picked up after fans shared mixed reactions to the film’s teaser and trailer. The actor addressed the backlash directly, pointing out how much long-term effort goes into creating high-quality CGI. He explained that artists and filmmakers had dedicated years to perfecting the film’s visuals. Kapoor noted a growing trend where online users have suddenly positioned themselves as CGI experts. He said this shift has become especially common over the past few years. He added that rising public interest in visual effects has been fuelled largely by the growing presence of artificial intelligence. According to Kapoor, most viewers don’t realise how much detailed planning goes into achieving realistic visuals. He explained that many assume complex VFX work is simply generated through AI shortcuts. In reality, he said, countless hours go into work that artists spend years perfecting. Kapoor also credited director Nitesh Tiwari and producer Namit Malhotra for their deep involvement throughout the VFX process. He said the team worked meticulously on details like colour grading and visual composition to shape the final experience. Tiwari previously revealed that certain VFX sequences alone took nearly three years to complete. The team continued refining smaller details even as the film approached its release. Producer Namit Malhotra also weighed in on the online criticism, urging audiences to reserve judgment until they see the film in theatres. He recalled how reactions shifted dramatically after showing an earlier teaser on a large IMAX screen in 3D. According to Malhotra, viewers who initially criticised certain elements changed their opinions entirely once they experienced it properly. He explained that watching VFX on a mobile phone or through poor internet doesn’t reflect the intended cinematic experience. He said the team has spent years and invested millions of dollars specifically to craft a big-screen spectacle worth the wait. Malhotra expressed confidence that the finished product will address much of the current criticism. “Ramayana” is scheduled to release in theatres on November 8, 2026, with Kapoor starring as Lord Ram. The film continues to generate anticipation as the team pushes toward delivering a large-scale visual experience for audiences.

Counter-terror operations in Balochistan neutralize 12 militants

Security forces in Pakistan have eliminated 12 high-risk terrorists during two separate operations across the southwestern province of Balochistan. According to official statements issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the media wing of the Armed Forces of Pakistan, the targeted anti-terror engagements took place in the districts of Washuk and Mastung as part of an intensified campaign against extremist elements operating within the region. The military reported that these synchronized Intelligence-Based Operations (IBOs) were initiated following precise tracking and surveillance of insurgent networks. The operations represent a significant operational success for law enforcement and defense personnel working to dismantle armed groups attempting to compromise regional stability. Key Highlights of the Counter-Terror Operations District Washuk: Initial tracking detected hostile movement in the area, leading to a swift operational response that resulted in six terrorists being neutralized. District Mastung: A subsequent targeted raid triggered an intense exchange of gunfire, during which six additional terrorists were eliminated and a major militant hideout was completely dismantled Total Impact: 12 terrorists killed, operational infrastructure destroyed, and significant cache of weapons and logistics seized. Breakdown of the Intelligence-Based Raids The first phase of the counter-terrorism effort unfolded in Washuk district, where security agencies identified suspicious tactical movements by a group of armed insurgents. Acting on real-time intelligence, military units deployed swiftly to intercept the suspects. Upon confronting the militants, a heavy firefight ensued, ending with the death of six terrorists before they could execute planned sabotage activities in the district. Shortly thereafter, a second high-stakes operation was executed in the Mastung district. Intelligence agencies pinpointed an active sanctuary utilized by militants as a staging ground for planning attacks against civilians and security personnel. As forces surrounded the hideout, the cornered insurgents opened fire in a desperate attempt to break through the security perimeter. The security forces responded with decisive tactical force, eliminating six militants on the spot and neutralizing the immediate threat. Following the gun battle, search teams thoroughly cleared the facility, recovering military-grade weaponry, ammunition, and explosives, while destroying the infrastructure used to harbor illegal insurgents. Strategic Significance and Broader Context The ISPR emphasized that these successful engagements reflect the unwavering commitment of the armed forces to cleanse the country of foreign-funded terrorism. Military officials reaffirmed that anti-terror operations will persist relentlessly until all hostile networks, their safe havens, and their local facilitators are completely eradicated across Pakistan.   Authorities have urged local communities to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies as comprehensive intelligence gathering and mop-up activities continue throughout the region.

Global oil prices edge higher amid incertainty over Strait of Hormuz

Global crude oil prices moved higher on Monday as uncertainty surrounding the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz continued to influence market sentiment and raise concerns about potential disruptions to international energy supplies. According to media reports, oil prices gained during Asian trading, with investors closely monitoring developments related to the strategic waterway and the ongoing discussions over shipping arrangements. Brent crude futures climbed by more than 1%, moving above the $84-per-barrel mark. US crude oil also recorded a gain of more than 1% during the session, reflecting renewed concerns over the stability of oil shipments through the region. The Strait of Hormuz remains a major focus for global energy markets because of its importance to international oil transportation. Any prolonged disruption to shipping through the waterway could put upward pressure on crude prices and raise concerns about supplies to major importing countries. Market participants are therefore keeping a close watch on diplomatic efforts aimed at restoring normal maritime traffic. Uncertainty over when and under what conditions the waterway will fully reopen has added to volatility in crude oil markets. Iran has said that an understanding with Oman regarding the establishment of new shipping routes is nearing completion. However, Tehran has also maintained that the Strait of Hormuz will not fully reopen until additional conditions involving the United States are addressed. The conflicting positions have left traders uncertain about the timing of a broader resolution. As a result, oil markets remain sensitive to any fresh developments involving Iran, Oman, the United States and maritime traffic through the strait. A sustained increase in crude prices could have wider economic implications, particularly for countries that rely heavily on imported petroleum. Higher international oil prices can increase import bills, put pressure on foreign exchange reserves and contribute to higher domestic fuel costs.
