Senate debates Imran Khan’s health after opposit…

The Senate held a detailed discussion on the health of PTI founder Imran Khan.

The discussion was held after a demand by Opposition Leader Allama Raja Nasir Abbas. The Senate proceedings were also suspended to take up the issue.

Speaking in the Senate, Raja Nasir Abbas said Imran Khan was facing punishment for crimes he had not committed. He described the former prime minister’s health as a highly sensitive matter.

The opposition leader urged the government to show restraint. He said political differences should not lead to anyone being subjected to unnecessary suffering.

Raja Nasir Abbas said the government should focus on resolving the country’s problems instead of pursuing political revenge. He also questioned whether the priority was to fix the system or settle political scores.

He demanded that Imran Khan be allowed to meet his personal doctors. He said access to proper medical care was essential, particularly because of concerns about the PTI founder’s health.

The opposition leader also called for Imran Khan to be shifted to a hospital if necessary. He demanded that a meeting with him should be allowed.

Raja Nasir Abbas said such measures could help prevent a serious situation in the future. He stressed that the authorities should take the health concerns seriously.

He also called for politicians to be given an opportunity to run the country. He said political issues should be resolved through political means.

The opposition leader also raised the issue of PTI women who are currently in prison. He called for greater attention to their situation.

During the debate, Raja Nasir Abbas addressed PML-N Senator Rana Sanaullah. He said Rana Sanaullah knew that the cases against him had not been filed by politicians.

Rana Sanaullah responded by asking Raja Nasir Abbas who had filed the case against him.

The exchange highlighted the political tensions between the government and opposition benches in the Senate.

The debate also brought renewed attention to Imran Khan’s health and the opposition’s demand for greater access to medical care and personal doctors.

Opposition lawmakers have continued to raise concerns about the PTI founder’s condition and have called for his medical needs to be addressed without political considerations.

Tanweer Ahmed urges AI skills, MicroCerts for yout…

On International Youth Day 2026, American-Pakistani businessman and analyst Tanweer Ahmed called for greater investment in young people and highlighted ACT AI and MicroCerts as key initiatives for preparing Pakistan’s youth for an artificial intelligence-driven global economy. Addressing a Youth and AI Summit at the United Nations, Ahmed said artificial intelligence was transforming education, employment, entrepreneurship, healthcare, public services and almost every aspect of modern economies. He stressed that young people should not be treated merely as beneficiaries of development but as innovators, decision-makers, entrepreneurs and leaders capable of shaping the future. “Talent is everywhere. Opportunity is not,” Ahmed said, emphasising the need to close the gap between young people who have access to advanced technology and those who remain excluded from the digital economy. ACT AI initiative Ahmed placed particular emphasis on ACT AI — Awareness, Competency and Tools Training for Artificial Intelligence — describing it as an important effort to expand practical AI capabilities among Pakistani youth. He said the initiative, associated with the state-owned enterprise AXI, focuses on areas including generative AI, agentic AI systems, AI-powered productivity tools, automation and sector-specific applications. According to Ahmed, one of the initiative’s major strengths is accessibility. Young people from different academic backgrounds can develop AI-related capabilities without necessarily having prior programming or artificial intelligence experience. He said making AI education accessible and free of cost could help ensure that Pakistani students and young professionals are not left behind as the global economy rapidly adopts AI. Ahmed argued that young people should acquire the ability not only to use artificial intelligence but also to understand, question, develop and responsibly apply the technology. MicroCerts to strengthen youth credentials Ahmed also placed strong emphasis on MicroCerts, describing micro-certifications as an important complement to traditional university degrees. He said rapidly changing technology means education can no longer end when a student completes a conventional degree. Young people need flexible opportunities to continuously acquire and demonstrate new, market-relevant skills. According to Ahmed, MicroCerts can provide focused credentials that demonstrate specific competencies and potentially create pathways into employment, freelancing, entrepreneurship, higher education and lifelong learning. He highlighted the importance of making such credentials accessible to young people facing financial or geographical barriers. “The future should not belong only to those who can afford opportunity,” Ahmed said, stressing that skills and credentials should be available to talented young people regardless of where they live or their economic circumstances. From AI users to AI creators Ahmed called for a shift from preparing young people simply to consume AI tools toward enabling them to become AI creators, innovators and responsible leaders. He said technology must be combined with human judgment, ethics and responsibility, warning that artificial intelligence cannot replace compassion, character or the human responsibility to determine the kind of society people want to build. He also called for stronger international cooperation between governments, universities, businesses, technology companies and international organisations to expand AI education and establish credible skills and certification systems. Ahmed said Pakistan could contribute to this global effort through initiatives such as ACT AI and MicroCerts, which he described as mechanisms for developing practical AI capabilities and recognised skills among the country’s youth. He further stressed that the expansion of AI infrastructure must be accompanied by environmental responsibility because data centres, cloud computing and AI systems require significant energy and resources. Addressing young people around the world, Ahmed urged them to learn and question emerging technologies, use AI to solve real-world problems and build businesses and communities with a clear sense of purpose.

UN condemns Swat blast as Pakistan warns of Afghan…

UNITED NATIONS: The United Nations Security Council has strongly condemned the deadly suicide bombing in Swat, describing the attack as “heinous and cowardly” as Pakistan renewed its warning that terrorist groups continue to operate from alleged safe havens inside Afghanistan. The attack took place outside a police station in Kabal, Swat, on August 2, killing at least 16 Pakistani nationals, mostly civilians, and leaving dozens injured, according to the UN statement cited by Pakistan’s Dawn. The Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the bombing. In a statement issued through the office of the UN secretary general’s spokesperson, Security Council members expressed deep sympathy to the families of those killed and wished the injured a speedy recovery. The council also stressed that those behind the attack must be held accountable, calling for perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of terrorism to be brought to justice. The UN body reiterated its longstanding position that terrorism, regardless of its motivation, location or perpetrators, remains a serious threat to international peace and security. It also urged member states to cooperate with Pakistan in accordance with international law and relevant Security Council resolutions. Pakistan Raises Alarm Over Afghan Sanctuaries The condemnation came shortly after Pakistan raised concerns at a UNSC briefing over what it described as the growing threat from terrorist organisations operating from Afghan territory. Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar, said several groups continue to maintain safe havens inside Afghanistan and pose an increasing threat to Pakistan and regional security. He specifically named the banned TTP, Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) and its Majeed Brigade, Islamic State Khorasan (IS-K), East Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), and Al Qaeda affiliates. Pakistan urged the international community to ensure that Afghan soil is not used to launch terrorist attacks against neighbouring countries, while calling for stronger international cooperation to counter cross-border terrorism. The latest developments have added fresh pressure to an already sensitive security relationship between Pakistan and Afghanistan. They also came after the fourth US-Pakistan Counterterrorism Dialogue in Washington, where officials from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to combating terrorist organisations. For Pakistan, the UNSC condemnation provides international recognition of the seriousness of the Swat attack, while Islamabad continues to push for stronger action against militant networks it says operate across its western border.

Prince Harry faces financial ‘Armageddon’ after court defeat

Prince Harry is once again facing sharp criticism from royal commentators. The backlash follows his defeat in a High Court privacy case against Associated Newspapers on July 7. Royal broadcaster Neil Sean weighed in on the mounting pressure surrounding the Duke of Sussex. He suggested much of the current turmoil is self-inflicted, pointing out that Harry has effectively made his struggles public for the world to see. Sean went further, describing Harry as someone visibly on edge right now. He questioned whether the prince’s current mindset appeared healthy given everything unfolding around him. According to Sean, the court defeat has left Harry navigating a genuinely difficult situation largely on his own. He suggested the fallout from the case has affected Harry far more deeply than he’d likely admit publicly. Sean noted that this marks unfamiliar territory for Harry, who has typically had support systems, like a private secretary, to help manage this kind of crisis. He said the experience of realising not everything he touches turns out successfully has clearly been difficult for him to process. Beyond the reputational damage, financial concerns are also mounting. Commentator Mark Dolan did not hold back, describing the situation as a full-blown financial disaster for the prince. Dolan estimated Harry could be facing costs anywhere between $10 million and $20 million as a result of the case. He said even a conservative estimate of $10 million would essentially wipe out all the money Harry earned from his memoir, “Spare.” Dolan raised pointed questions about whether Harry actually has the funds to cover those costs. He also wondered how Meghan Markle might be reacting to the situation, and what Harry’s next move could realistically look like. According to Dolan, the scale of the financial fallout makes this a defining moment for Harry, describing it as an existential crisis for the prince. With both reputational and financial pressures mounting simultaneously, commentators suggest this latest setback could prove especially difficult for Harry to recover from.

Azma Bokhari hits back at PPP, criticizes Bilawal’s remarks

Lahore: Punjab Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bokhari has strongly reacted to the statements made by Pakistan Peoples Party spokespersons, saying they should choose their words carefully and learn to respect their elders. She remarked that it was ironic that “those born out of a blackmailing mandate are now taunting us.” Azma Bokhari said PPP leaders repeatedly mock a person old enough to be their father by making faces and chanting “Raiwind, Raiwind.” She questioned whether they do not consider it disrespectful when their own leader ridicules someone of a father’s age. She further said that PPP leaders had collectively turned Raiwind into a subject of mockery and routinely insult senior individuals through their gestures and remarks. The Punjab Information Minister warned that if such abusive and disrespectful language continued, it would be met with an appropriate response. She added that Bilawal Bhutto is not some divine figure beyond criticism. Azma Bokhari further said that Bilawal Bhutto repeatedly mentions the names of Punjab’s cities in his speeches to spread falsehoods and misleading propaganda. She questioned whether his conduct was not both laughable and lacking in seriousness.
