PHF eyes european coach for Pakistan women’s hockey team

The Pakistan Hockey Federation (PHF) is preparing to appoint a foreign coach for the national women’s hockey team in a move aimed at strengthening player development and improving the team’s international competitiveness.

According to sources familiar with the matter, the PHF is currently in discussions with a European coach to take charge of the women’s national side. The negotiations are progressing, and officials are hopeful that an agreement will be finalized by the end of this month.

The proposed appointment is part of the federation’s broader strategy to modernize women’s hockey and provide players with greater exposure to international coaching methods and high-performance training.

Sources said the incoming coach would also oversee a series of training tours across Europe. These tours are expected to give Pakistan’s women hockey players the opportunity to compete against stronger opposition, gain valuable match experience and adapt to international standards of play.

In addition to coaching the national squad, the foreign coach is likely to play a key role in organizing practice matches and training camps during overseas visits. These fixtures are expected to help the team improve its tactical awareness, fitness levels and overall performance ahead of future international competitions.

The move reflects the PHF’s growing focus on rebuilding women’s hockey, which has struggled to maintain a consistent presence on the international stage in recent years. Officials believe that exposure to European coaching techniques and competitive environments could accelerate the team’s progress.

While the federation has yet to make an official announcement regarding the coach’s identity, insiders say discussions are in the final stages and optimism is high that the appointment will soon be confirmed.

If finalized, the hiring of a European coach would mark an important step in Pakistan’s efforts to revive women’s hockey and create a stronger pathway for future success at regional and global tournaments.

(Reviewit.pk) Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Mehreen Jabbar and written by Aliya Bukhari, Gulbahar appears to explore marriage, emotional distance and the longing for parenthood. The teaser presents Sanam Saeed and Emmad Irfani as a married couple whose relationship is being tested by an unfulfilled dream of having a child. (FUCHSIA) Rather than relying on dramatic confrontations, the teaser uses quiet and emotionally restrained moments to establish its mood. Glimpses of an empty crib, a child and the couple’s emotional struggles suggest that motherhood and parenthood will play an important role in the story. Sanam Saeed appears to portray a woman deeply affected by her desire to become a mother. Her expressions in the teaser hint at loneliness and emotional exhaustion, while Emmad Irfani’s character appears to be dealing with the same situation from a different perspective. The teaser leaves several questions unanswered. Will the couple choose adoption? Will their inability to have a child create distance between them? Or will outside expectations put further pressure on their marriage? According to early reports, the drama revolves around a childless couple who face the difficult decision of whether to adopt. This gives Gulbahar an opportunity to explore a subject that is rarely handled with enough sensitivity on Pakistani television. (Reviewit.pk) The reunion of Saeed and Irfani is another major attraction. Their previous project Kafeel gave audiences a complicated marital relationship, and viewers are now curious to see them take on a completely different dynamic. Social media reactions to the Gulbahar teaser have already shown strong interest in seeing the pair together again. (Reviewit.pk) Mehreen Jabbar’s involvement has also raised expectations. Known for her distinctive visual storytelling, the director appears to be taking a more intimate approach with Gulbahar. The teaser’s quiet atmosphere and focus on emotion suggest that the drama may depend more on character development than sensational twists. At the same time, some viewers are already wondering whether the story will take a conventional route involving pressure for another marriage or family expectations. These possibilities remain speculation until the drama reveals more about its characters and storyline. For now, Gulbahar promises an emotionally driven story about marriage, love, longing and the meaning of family. With Sanam Saeed and Emmad Irfani leading the cast and Mehreen Jabbar behind the camera, the drama has already given audiences plenty of reasons to be curious.

North Korea fires missile ahead of US-South Korea drills

SEOUL: North Korea launched a suspected ballistic missile into waters off the Korean Peninsula’s eastern coast on Wednesday, raising tensions just days before major military exercises between South Korea and the United States. South Korean and Japanese authorities detected the launch from the Wonsan area on North Korea’s east coast at around 6am local time. The missile travelled approximately 700 kilometres before falling into the sea, according to South Korean and Japanese defence officials. The launch came only days before the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercises, scheduled to begin on August 17 and continue through August 27. The drills are designed to strengthen the allies’ ability to respond to security threats from North Korea. Pyongyang has repeatedly criticised the exercises, describing them as preparations for a potential attack. Seoul and Washington maintain that the drills are defensive and necessary to improve their combined military readiness. South Korean officials said Wednesday’s launch was the latest in a series of weapons tests conducted by North Korea this year. It was assessed as the country’s 11th suspected ballistic missile test of 2026. North Korea had also launched a missile from the Wonsan region on August 6. Pyongyang did not publicly acknowledge that test. Analysts said the latest launch could have been part of North Korea’s ongoing weapons development programme. However, its timing may also have been intended to send a political and military message ahead of the upcoming US-South Korean exercises. South Korean authorities have not yet confirmed the exact type of missile involved. Officials said a detailed analysis was under way to determine its specifications. The missile’s reported range and launch location have prompted speculation that it could have been a hypersonic weapon or another advanced missile system. Officials have not confirmed those assessments. Seoul and Tokyo condemn launch South Korea and Japan strongly criticised the missile test. South Korean authorities convened an emergency security meeting and called on Pyongyang to stop activities that violate United Nations Security Council resolutions. South Korea’s military said it remained fully prepared to respond to any further provocation and would maintain its combined defence posture with the United States. Japan also lodged a formal protest through diplomatic channels. Japanese Defence Minister Shinjiro Koizumi condemned the launch and said Tokyo was closely monitoring developments. The latest test follows growing tensions over North Korea’s expanding weapons programme and Japan’s plans to strengthen its defence capabilities. North Korean state media had criticised Japan’s latest defence policy document a day earlier, accusing Tokyo of using the North Korean threat to justify an increase in military spending and capabilities. The US Indo-Pacific Command said it was coordinating closely with South Korea and Japan. Its initial assessment was that the missile launch did not pose an immediate threat to US territory, American personnel or its allies.

Paris Jackson reacts after fan brands her tattoos …

Paris Jackson has made it clear that she is not interested in letting strangers dictate how she should look. The singer and actress recently hit back at an Instagram user who criticized her extensive collection of tattoos, saying the body art made her look “dirty.” Jackson responded with a blunt and sarcastic comment, showing that the criticism had little effect on her. The exchange happened after E! News shared an Instagram post about Jackson opening up about meeting her mother, Debbie Rowe, for the first time. The post featured a photo highlighting the colorful chakra-inspired tattoo running down the center of Jackson’s chest. (E! Online) One commenter complimented Jackson’s appearance but then criticized her tattoos, writing that they made her look dirty and took away from her overall look. Jackson was quick to respond. “Oh no what ever will i do 😰 (i’m dirty even without the tattoos),” she wrote, turning the criticism into a joke rather than allowing it to become a serious confrontation. (People.com) The commenter continued to defend their opinion, telling Jackson that she was beautiful and questioning why she had “messed with perfection.” Jackson did not appear interested in continuing the argument. The reaction is hardly surprising considering Jackson’s long-standing love for tattoos. The 28-year-old has accumulated more than 80 tattoos over the years, with many carrying personal or symbolic meanings. She has previously explained that some of her tattoo decisions were spontaneous and even revealed that she has done some of them herself. (People.com) One of her most meaningful tattoos is the word “Applehead” written across her left foot. The nickname was associated with her late father, Michael Jackson. When she revealed the tattoo in 2017, Paris described it as a tribute to her father and connected it to the idea of him guiding her as she moved through life. (People.com) Her response also comes at a time when Jackson has been opening up about her family and childhood. In a recent Call Her Daddy interview, she discussed meeting her mother, Debbie Rowe, for the first time when she was 15. She recalled that their first meeting was surprisingly relaxed and that they gradually became closer. (EW.com) For Jackson, tattoos appear to be more than just a fashion choice. They are a form of self-expression and, in some cases, a way of carrying memories and personal experiences with her. While social media users may continue to have opinions about her appearance, Jackson’s latest response shows that she is comfortable making her own choices. Rather than changing herself to satisfy critics, she seems perfectly happy to embrace the tattoos that have become part of her identity. And judging by her sarcastic comeback, online criticism is not going to make her rethink her ink anytime soon.
