Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir have inaugurated the Sky47 Karakoram One Data Centre, marking a major step towards strengthening Pakistan’s digital infrastructure.

During a briefing at the facility, the prime minister was informed that the data centre would provide a strong foundation for cloud computing, data hosting and advanced digital services. Officials said the project would help Pakistan move towards technological self-reliance.

The Sky47 Data Centre has the capability to support emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning and high-performance computing. It is expected to play an important role in meeting the country’s growing digital and technological needs.

Addressing the inauguration ceremony, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the modern data centre as an impressive and remarkable achievement. He praised the completion of the project in a short period, saying it reflected strong commitment, expertise and determination.

The prime minister appreciated the leadership of Field Marshal Asim Munir and the contribution of technology partner ZTE in making the project possible. He said the country’s achievements during difficult times showed that challenges could be overcome through unity, determination and hard work.

Shehbaz Sharif said projects like Sky47 represent Pakistan’s future and would contribute to national progress. He thanked all stakeholders involved in delivering the facility and said such initiatives would enhance the country’s digital security and technological capabilities.

Federal Minister for Information Technology Shaza Fatima Khawaja said the inauguration of the Sky47 Data Centre marked the beginning of a new era of artificial intelligence in Pakistan.

She said the project would open doors to new economic opportunities and allow Pakistan to better utilise its resources, data and skilled workforce.

The minister added that transforming data into practical solutions and converting artificial intelligence into economic value would be crucial for future growth. She said the global AI race would depend on secure, affordable and effective use of technology.

    FPAP, IPH hold breastfeeding policy dialogue

    LAHORE: Institute of Public Health Lahore and Rahnuma Family Planning Association of Pakistan joined hands to organize a Policy Dialogue on promoting Breastfeeding in connection with the World Breastfeeding Week 2026. The week is commemorated globally from 1-7 August to highlight the importance of breastfeeding. The house discussed strategies to improve breast feeding as only 45% of newborns in Pakistan were put to breast milk within the first hour of life, resulting in stunted growth and vulnerability to disease outbreaks. Highlighting this year’s theme “Breastfeeding for a Sustainable Start in Life: Strengthen What Works,” he said that Rahnuma-FPAP is one of the largest and oldest organizations in Pakistan, renowned for integrated package of mother & child health services, (ANC, safe deliveries PNC, vaccination, nutrition and family planning) at its country-wide network of facilities. Prof Sardar Al Farid highlighted barriers for mothers especially in office settings and need to designate workplace nursing stations. WHO representative Dr. Jamshaid elaborated key indicators (Early Initiation of Breastfeeding, Exclusive Breastfeeding and Continued Breastfeeding, highlighting that formula milk must not be marketed aggressively. UNICEF representative Dr. Quratul Ain highlighted that deliveries in Punjab under skilled birth attendants have improved to around 80%, yet the breastfeeding figures remain sub optimal. This requires integrating skilled counseling into routine family planning and reproductive health services.

    Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs Amir Muqam has strongly rejected Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s allegations regarding the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections. He urged the PPP to accept the public mandate instead of questioning the election results. Addressing a Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) public gathering in the Khawra area of Muzaffarabad, Muqam said the people of Mirpur had freely voted for the PML-N. He stated that the election outcome reflected the will of the people and should be respected by all political parties. Muqam said the PPP should review the reasons behind its electoral defeat instead of making accusations of rigging. According to him, the party should reflect on why voters chose another political party rather than blaming the election process. The federal minister also pointed out that the government and administrative setup in Azad Kashmir are under the influence of the PPP. He argued that, under such circumstances, allegations of election manipulation were difficult to justify.       Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan has once again appealed for permission to meet the party’s founding chairman, saying that he has not met him since October 15, 2025. Barrister Gohar said he was once again requesting the authorities to allow him to meet the PTI founder. He strongly denied reports or claims suggesting that he had met the party founder after October 15, 2025. “I once again request that I be allowed to meet the founding chairman,” Barrister Gohar said, reiterating his demand for access to the incarcerated PTI leader. The PTI chairman clarified that he had not met the party founder since October 15 last year and categorically rejected any suggestion that a meeting had taken place after that date. According to him, despite repeatedly submitting requests for a meeting, he had neither been offered an opportunity nor granted permission to meet the former prime minister. Barrister Gohar said that his repeated requests had not resulted in any meeting being arranged. He maintained that he had made several attempts to obtain permission but had not received a positive response from the relevant authorities. The PTI chairman said he would once again submit a request for permission to meet the party founder. He also stressed the importance of allowing the founder’s family members and legal team to meet him. His remarks come amid continued political and legal developments surrounding the PTI founder, whose access to family members, lawyers and party leadership has remained a subject of political discussion. Barrister Gohar’s statement also seeks to clarify his own position regarding reports about his alleged meetings with the PTI founder.     Attaullah Tarar accuses PTI of violent politics

    Federal Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has accused Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) of pursuing a politics of violence. In a statement, Tarar said the Mall Road incident in Rawalpindi had brought several issues to light. He alleged that PTI supporters arrive at protests carrying weapons. He said a security official was fired upon in broad daylight on Mall Road in Rawalpindi. According to Tarar, the incident was another example of what he described as PTI’s politics of violence. The federal minister further alleged that the purpose of PTI protests was to disrupt law and order and create unrest in the country. Tarar said the party’s objective behind protests was to create anarchy and instability in Pakistan. He also claimed that PTI was unable to accept the country’s development and progress. His remarks came after the Mall Road shooting in Rawalpindi, where a man identified as Muhammad Hussain was killed after allegedly opening fire at security forces, according to police.
