PM rebukes Islamabad chief commissioner, IG over i…

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister of Pakistan has reprimanded Islamabad’s Chief Commissioner and Inspector General of Police (IGP) over their use of a ceremonial buggy during the Independence Day celebrations, describing the display as inconsistent with the principles and values expected from senior public servants.

According to official advisories issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on August 17, the incident took place on August 14 during the Independence Day celebrations. Chief Commissioner Islamabad Lt. (Retd.) Sohail Ashraf and IG Islamabad Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi reportedly used a ceremonial carriage belonging to the Prime Minister’s House to attend and observe the parade. The Prime Minister himself was not present at the event.

The use of the ceremonial buggy attracted public criticism, with concerns raised over what was perceived as an unnecessary display of protocol and privilege by senior government officials.

In its advisory, the Prime Minister’s Office expressed serious displeasure over the incident and said the conduct created an inappropriate impression about the role of public servants. The office maintained that government officials are expected to uphold simplicity, humility and dignity rather than engage in displays of grandeur or personal prominence.

The Prime Minister stated that the use of such protocol projected an image of privilege, ostentation and personal aggrandisement that was contrary to the basic ethos of public service. He stressed that government officers serve the public and should therefore avoid conduct that could undermine public confidence in state institutions.

The advisory further warned that displays of excessive protocol and personal privilege by senior officials could damage the credibility of public institutions. It emphasized that officers occupying important administrative and law-enforcement positions are expected to demonstrate the highest standards of professionalism and propriety.

Following the Prime Minister’s directions, the Establishment Division issued a formal warning to the two officers through Joint Secretary (Discipline) Syeda Shafaq Hashmi.

The directive called for an immediate end to practices involving unnecessary protocol, exhibitionism and self-promotion at official events. It instructed the officers to ensure that such conduct does not happen again and emphasized the importance of maintaining simplicity and dignity while performing official duties.

The Establishment Division also directed that the advisory be followed strictly, both in letter and spirit. The warning serves as a reminder to senior civil servants that official positions come with significant responsibilities and require them to maintain appropriate standards of conduct in public.

The Prime Minister’s Office highlighted the special responsibilities of the Chief Commissioner and IG Islamabad, who serve as the administrative and police heads of the federal capital. Given their positions, the public and government expect them to set an example through responsible governance, discipline and appropriate behavior.

The episode has once again brought attention to the government’s emphasis on reducing unnecessary official protocol and promoting a culture of simplicity among public officials. The Prime Minister’s message was clear that public office should be associated with service, responsibility and accountability rather than privilege and ceremonial extravagance.

The two officials have now been directed to ensure that similar displays do not recur at future official functions and to uphold the standards expected from senior government officers.

Lance Bass is getting candid about one of the most rewarding chapters of his life: being a father. The NSYNC star recently shared a bittersweet update about raising his four-year-old twins, Alexander and Violet, with husband Michael Turchin. During the August 12 premiere party for Cocktail Wars in New York, Bass opened up about life with his children. While the singer is clearly enjoying every moment of fatherhood, he also admitted that watching his twins grow up comes with an emotional side. Bass and Turchin welcomed their twins, Violet Betty and Alexander James, in October 2021 through a surrogate. The couple had previously faced years of challenges while trying to become parents, including a pregnancy loss, making the arrival of their children especially meaningful. (ABC News) Now, four years into parenthood, Bass appears to be embracing the chaos, joy and little milestones that come with raising two young children. The singer has previously spoken about how quickly the early years of fatherhood pass. As Alexander and Violet become more independent, Bass is experiencing that familiar feeling many parents know well: wanting to see children grow while wishing they could stay little for just a little longer. His latest comments also highlight the close bond he shares with his twins. Bass and Turchin have frequently given fans glimpses into their family life, from celebrating birthdays to sharing the personalities of their children. When the twins were babies, Turchin described Violet as more strong-willed and outspoken, while Alexander was more relaxed and gentle. Bass, meanwhile, said the transition into parenthood had been easier than they expected and that the babies brought enormous happiness into their home. (People.com) Fatherhood has also changed Bass’s outlook on life. In an earlier interview, he explained that having children shifted his perspective because life was no longer simply about himself. (Scary Mommy) While Bass continues to balance parenting with his busy entertainment career, his latest appearance shows that family remains one of his biggest priorities. The update comes as Bass prepares for the launch of Cocktail Wars, the new E! competition series he hosts alongside fellow NSYNC member Joey Fatone. The show is scheduled to premiere on August 18. US confirms Israel-Lebanon talks in Rome

The United States has confirmed that Israel and Lebanon will hold their next round of talks in Rome from August 4 to 6. The negotiations will focus on implementing a framework agreement aimed at ending the conflict and improving security along the Israel-Lebanon border. The talks will be mediated by the United States. Technical teams from both sides are expected to discuss several key issues. One major issue will be the expansion of pilot zones in southern Lebanon. Israel is preparing to withdraw from two of these areas as part of the framework agreement. The discussions will also cover unresolved border disputes. The sides are expected to explore steps towards a wider peace and security arrangement. The framework emerged after fighting between Israel and Hezbollah escalated on March 2. The conflict took place amid wider tensions across the Middle East. Under the agreement, Hezbollah is expected to disarm. Lebanese forces are also to increase their deployment in southern Lebanon. Israeli forces are expected to withdraw gradually from parts of southern Lebanon. The process will initially involve two designated pilot zones. US officials said the experience from the initial zones could help establish a broader system for withdrawal and security arrangements. The United States believes the pilot zones can be expanded in stages if the initial process proves successful. The Lebanese army, however, has raised concerns over continued Israeli military activity in the south. Beirut has accused Israel of carrying out intermittent strikes and artillery attacks despite the reduction in fighting. Lebanese officials say the continued military activity is making it harder for the army to fully deploy in the south under the framework agreement.

Flood alert in Pakistan as India opens Salal dam g…

Pakistan has issued a high-level flood alert after India released a significant volume of water from the Salal Dam following heavy rainfall in Indian-administered Kashmir. The move has raised concerns among Pakistani authorities, who are closely monitoring the situation as water levels continue to rise in the Chenab River. According to Punjab’s Irrigation Department, the heavy rainfall in the upper catchment areas prompted Indian authorities to open all gates of the Salal Dam, allowing a large flow of water to move downstream toward Pakistan. Officials have warned that the increased water discharge could reach Wazirabad within the next 48 hours, prompting precautionary measures in vulnerable areas. The Irrigation Department stated that water levels in the Chenab River have already begun to increase. Authorities are continuously tracking river flows to assess the potential impact on downstream districts and to provide timely updates if the situation changes. As a precaution, a high alert has been issued for flood-prone areas, particularly in Sialkot and Wazirabad, where local administrations have been instructed to remain prepared for any emergency. Disaster management teams are coordinating with relevant departments to monitor developments and ensure a rapid response if water levels continue to rise. Officials have urged residents living near the Chenab River and low-lying areas to stay informed through official announcements and avoid unnecessary travel near riverbanks. Emergency services are also on standby to respond quickly should flooding occur. Seasonal monsoon rains often lead to rising river levels across the region, making cross-border water management a critical issue during this period. Sudden increases in water discharge from upstream reservoirs can significantly affect downstream communities, requiring close coordination between authorities and continuous monitoring of river conditions. While officials have expressed concern over the rising water levels, they are also emphasizing that the situation remains under observation. The extent of any flooding will depend on rainfall patterns over the coming days and the volume of water continuing to flow into the Chenab River. Residents in at-risk areas are advised to follow guidance issued by local authorities, remain alert for weather and flood updates, and take necessary precautions if evacuation advisories are issued. Authorities have assured the public that monitoring efforts will continue around the clock to minimize risks and protect communities from any potential flooding. With the water surge expected to arrive within the next two days, emergency agencies remain on alert as Pakistan prepares for the possible impact of increased river flows during the ongoing monsoon season.

Meghan Markle’s financial reality comes under sc…

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s surprise return to the UK has sparked fresh questions about their financial future, particularly the fate of their lavish Montecito home. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly moving back to Britain with their children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, after six years in California. However, the couple are not currently planning to give up their American base. Several reports say they intend to keep their Montecito mansion, which they purchased for about $14.7 million in 2020. (People.com) Despite those reports, speculation about a possible sale has intensified. A recent New York Post report claimed the Sussexes could eventually consider putting the property on the market because of its enormous running costs. The nine-bedroom estate reportedly carries more than $600,000 a year in mortgage payments and property taxes alone, before insurance, security and maintenance are added. Some local real-estate estimates suggest the property could now be worth considerably more than the couple originally paid. (New York Post) The reports come as Harry and Meghan prepare for a major lifestyle change. Their children are expected to attend school in the UK, while the couple will establish a private British home. At the same time, they are expected to retain their California property and their vacation home in Portugal. (AP News) That means the family could potentially be maintaining three properties across two countries. Financial pressure has therefore become part of the conversation surrounding their relocation. Page Six reported that the couple’s annual expenses could reach around $6 million, including staff, security, mortgages and other lifestyle costs. The publication also reported that their previous major entertainment deals have become less lucrative, with Spotify no longer involved and Netflix’s relationship reportedly reduced. (Page Six) However, it is important to separate confirmed information from speculation. There is currently no confirmed public listing showing that the Montecito mansion is officially for sale. In fact, TMZ reported that the couple plans to keep the California property despite their UK move. People has similarly reported that the Sussexes intend to retain the mansion. (TMZ) Another property has faced more direct sale speculation. In early August, The News reported claims that Harry and Meghan could consider selling their Portuguese retreat because of its ongoing costs. Those claims were based on unnamed sources and have not been independently confirmed by the couple. (thenews.com.pk) For Meghan, the situation highlights the challenge of maintaining an expensive international lifestyle while building new income streams. Her As Ever brand remains an important part of her business plans, while Harry continues his charitable work. For now, the Montecito mansion remains in the Sussexes’ hands. Whether it eventually becomes “the one on the chopping block” remains uncertain, but their return to Britain has undoubtedly placed their property portfolio and finances under a much brighter spotlight.
