ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Member of the National Assembly Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar passed away after battling a prolonged illness, his family confirmed on Saturday. His death has been met with grief across political circles, with leaders and supporters paying tribute to his decades of public and political service.

According to his family, Malik Iqbal Channar had been ill for several weeks. During his illness, he suffered a brain haemorrhage and was admitted to hospital, where doctors performed surgery in an effort to save his life. Despite medical treatment, he could not recover and passed away.

Malik Iqbal Channar was serving as a member of the National Assembly from the NA-168 Bahawalpur constituency. He was considered a senior politician in the region and remained closely associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for many years.

Throughout his political career, Channar actively participated in public welfare initiatives and maintained close contact with his constituents. He was known within the party as a loyal worker and a committed representative who remained dedicated to serving the people.

Following the news of his death, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed profound sorrow and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.

In his condolence message, the prime minister praised the late lawmaker’s political, social and public contributions. He said Malik Iqbal Channar devoted his life to serving the people and strengthening the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz through his commitment and hard work.

Shehbaz Sharif said the country had lost a sincere public representative whose services would be remembered with respect. He described Channar as a loyal and ideological worker of the PML-N and a trusted companion of party president Nawaz Sharif.

The prime minister also recalled his personal association with the late parliamentarian. He said he had the opportunity to know Malik Iqbal Channar personally and work alongside him on several occasions during his tenure in the Punjab government.

He added that Channar’s loyalty, dedication and commitment to both the party and the people would always be remembered. The prime minister prayed for the departed soul and asked Allah Almighty to grant patience and strength to his family during this difficult time.

The passing of Malik Iqbal Channar marks the end of a long political career spent in public service. His death has created a sense of loss among party workers, political colleagues and residents of Bahawalpur, many of whom remembered him as a dedicated leader who remained connected to his constituency throughout his time in office.

Another issue raised by investigators concerns Mir Raza’s smartwatch. Officials said its forensic examination had also not been conducted. The police are also facing questions over why some investigative procedures were not carried out earlier.     Met Gala 2027 to honour British fashion designer

According to the museum, John Galliano: Horizons will explore the designer’s extraordinary career, tracing his creative evolution from his acclaimed 1984 graduation collection at Central Saint Martins to his work at Givenchy, Christian Dior, his own label, and Maison Margiela. The exhibition will feature garments, sketches, research books and archival material drawn from the Costume Institute’s extensive collection. Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, who has long admired Galliano’s work, praised the designer while announcing the exhibition. “There is no one more deserving of an exhibition of this scale than John Galliano,” Wintour said in a statement. She continued, “His body of work, at Dior, Givenchy, Margiela, his namesake label and more, combines erudition and creativity, darkness and light, the past, the present, the future all smashing together in a brilliant way.” The exhibition has been curated by Andrew Bolton, who explained the philosophy behind the project and why Galliano’s career remains an important subject in contemporary fashion. Rather than overlooking the controversy, the exhibition aims to place it within the broader context of Galliano’s life and career, examining both his artistic achievements and the consequences of his actions. With John Galliano: Horizons, the Metropolitan Museum of Art hopes to present a comprehensive look at one of fashion’s most influential and debated designers, while the Met Gala 2027 is expected to celebrate his lasting impact on the global fashion industry.

Authorities stated that the initial medical examination indicated signs of sexual assault, while the suspect was arrested from his residence shortly after the incident. The investigation remains ongoing. A day after the incident, the grieving mother spoke publicly for the first time, sharing the painful sequence of events that led to the loss of her daughter. Fighting back tears, she explained that she had returned home from work in the afternoon before taking her daughter to the market. After the child had eaten, she briefly went to a neighbour’s house for an urgent matter. She said the accused, identified as Manan, was the grandson of her paternal aunt and had been visiting their home for nearly one and a half years. Since he often spent time with the family and appeared caring toward her daughter, she trusted him. According to the mother, he offered to take the little girl for a walk, something he had done on previous occasions. When he brought the child back, the toddler was reportedly unconscious. The mother said her sister informed her that the child had been vomiting. Concerned, she took her to a nearby clinic, where doctors initially suspected that the vomiting might have been caused by spoiled milk. She returned home, gave her daughter oral rehydration solution (ORS), and put her to sleep. However, while changing the child’s diaper, the mother noticed bleeding. She recalled that her daughter had stopped responding, her heartbeat appeared to have slowed, and her lips had turned dark. Realising the seriousness of the situation, she desperately asked for help in taking the child to the hospital. The grieving mother said she had to take her daughter to the hospital herself because no one came forward to assist her. She also revealed that she does not live with her husband and claimed that very few relatives stood by her during the tragedy. According to her, even some close family members did not attend her daughter’s funeral. She further shared that the post-mortem examination revealed severe injuries, saying her daughter had suffered unimaginable cruelty despite being only 18 months old. Her emotional account has left many people devastated, with countless social media users expressing sympathy for the grieving mother and calling for the harshest possible punishment for those responsible. The incident has also sparked wider discussions online about child safety. While many users focused on demanding justice and stronger legal action against child abuse, others stressed the importance of never leaving young children unattended or in the care of anyone, regardless of how well they are known or trusted.
