Priyanka Chopra reveals next Hollywood project with Russell Crowe

Priyanka Chopra has officially revealed her next Hollywood project, Bluefly, a science-fiction action thriller that will see her star alongside Academy Award winner Russell Crowe. The announcement marks another major international venture for the actress, who continues to expand her presence in global cinema with high-profile productions.

The actress shared the update with fans on Instagram on Thursday, posting a behind-the-scenes image and captioning it simply, “On to the next.” The brief message quickly drew widespread attention, with fans and celebrities alike celebrating the exciting casting announcement.

Bluefly will be directed by Nimród Antal, known for his work on action and thriller films. The screenplay has been written by David Frigerio together with William Eubank and Carlyle Eubank, promising a story packed with suspense, mystery and large-scale action.

Set against the backdrop of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, the film follows a grieving United Nations translator who unexpectedly becomes involved in a highly classified black-operations mission. The assignment centres on recovering a mysterious aircraft that was never meant to exist, forcing a Special Operations team to travel through dangerous militia-controlled territory.

As the mission unfolds, the team discovers that retrieving the aircraft may not have been the true objective. Hidden agendas, dangerous secrets and unexpected twists transform what initially appears to be a recovery operation into a fight for survival. The storyline is expected to combine military action, science-fiction elements and psychological suspense.

The film boasts an experienced production team, with Michael Jefferson, David Frigerio, Deborah Glover, Arianne Fraser, Delphine Perrier and Vanessa Yao Guo serving as producers. Their collaboration aims to deliver a large-scale thriller for international audiences.

Speaking about the project, producer Delphine Perrier described Bluefly as a gripping action thriller filled with surprising twists and an emotionally layered story. She also expressed confidence that director Nimród Antal and the film’s cast would bring the ambitious project to life for viewers around the world.

Priyanka’s Instagram announcement quickly attracted support from friends and colleagues across the entertainment industry. Her husband, singer Nick Jonas, reacted with fire emojis, while actress Huma Qureshi also showed her excitement in the comments section. Fans flooded the post with congratulatory messages, praising the casting and expressing enthusiasm about seeing Chopra and Crowe share the screen. Many described the pairing as one of the most exciting casting announcements of the year.

Russell Crowe adds significant star power to the project. The veteran actor remains one of Hollywood’s most respected performers, earning worldwide acclaim and an Academy Award for his iconic portrayal of Maximus in Gladiator. His addition is expected to elevate the film’s international appeal.

Meanwhile, Priyanka Chopra has a busy schedule ahead. Alongside Bluefly, she is preparing for her much-awaited return to Indian cinema with director SS Rajamouli’s upcoming film Varanasi. The project reunites her with Indian audiences after an eight-year gap and features an impressive ensemble cast, including Mahesh Babu and Prithviraj Sukumaran.

The Indian epic is currently slated for a theatrical release in April 2027, while production on Bluefly is expected to begin soon as Chopra continues balancing major projects across Hollywood and India.

Communal violence kills three in Nepal

Nepal’s Prime Minister Balendra Shah has appealed for peace and restraint after deadly clashes between Hindu and Muslim communities in the country’s southern region left three people dead and prompted authorities to impose curfews in several districts. In his first major national address since taking office in March, Shah urged citizens to remain calm and reject violence, calling on political leaders, religious groups, civil society and the media to work together to preserve national unity. “I appeal to everyone to exercise patience and help restore peace, harmony and brotherhood,” the prime minister said, while assuring the public that the government would conduct a fair and transparent investigation into the violence. The unrest began earlier this week in Sunsari district near the Indian border after a dispute reportedly erupted during a Hindu religious procession. The disagreement centered on loud music and the display of religious flags, which escalated into violent clashes between members of the Hindu and Muslim communities. Police intervened to disperse the crowds and opened fire during the confrontation. Two people were killed in the initial violence, according to officials. A third person later died during a protest in the neighbouring Siraha district despite a curfew being in force. Following the violence, authorities imposed strict curfews in Sunsari and nearby districts to prevent further unrest. Security forces have been deployed across the affected areas, while police remain on high alert to protect public property and maintain law and order. Police officials said security personnel are attempting to restore normalcy while using the minimum level of force necessary to prevent additional clashes. Authorities also warned against the spread of misinformation that could further inflame tensions. The government has pledged to identify those responsible for the violence and bring them before the courts. Officials said the investigation would be conducted impartially and that anyone found involved in the unrest would face legal action.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has warned that Pakistan will respond directly if India fails to change course, declaring that every drop of the country’s water is a “red line.” Addressing the inauguration ceremony of the Victory Monument in Islamabad, the prime minister said Pakistan wanted peace rather than war, but its desire for peace should never be mistaken for weakness. He said the country was committed to pursuing peace with dignity while remaining prepared to protect its sovereignty and national interests. Shehbaz Sharif described the Victory Monument as a symbol of the courage, determination and professional capabilities of Pakistan’s armed forces. He said the monument also paid tribute to the martyrs who sacrificed their lives defending the country and honoured the armed forces personnel who demonstrated exceptional bravery. China stands firm on economic strategy ahead of ke…

BEIJING: China has intensified its defence of its state-led economic model as it prepares for crucial trade discussions with the European Union and the United States, signalling that it is unlikely to make major policy concessions despite mounting international criticism. Beijing has repeatedly argued that its development strategy, which prioritises investment in advanced manufacturing and technology, remains essential for long-term economic growth. Chinese leaders maintain that the country’s industrial policies have helped strengthen innovation and global competitiveness, rejecting accusations that they distort international trade. The latest policy statements from China’s leadership indicate a commitment to maintaining its current economic direction. While officials acknowledge challenges such as weak domestic demand and excess production capacity, they continue to favour targeted policy support instead of broad consumer-focused stimulus measures. Chinese authorities have also dismissed Western claims of industrial overcapacity, describing such criticism as politically motivated. They argue that China’s manufacturing success reflects its stage of economic development and benefits global consumers through affordable, high-quality products. Ahead of expected meetings between President Xi Jinping and US President Donald Trump later this year, as well as upcoming negotiations with the European Union, Beijing has adopted a more confident tone in defending its economic policies. Analysts believe the messaging is intended to establish clear limits on what China is willing to negotiate while encouraging greater understanding of its development model. China has also sought to counter warnings of a new “China shock” by portraying its industrial expansion as an opportunity for global economic growth. However, many Western economists argue that China’s reliance on exports, combined with subdued domestic consumption, continues to create imbalances that affect international markets. Although Beijing has slowed public investment by tightening oversight of local government spending, officials acknowledge that supply and demand remain uneven. Authorities have pledged to reduce destructive price competition among manufacturers and have reiterated their intention to strengthen consumer demand, though without announcing sweeping structural reforms. Chinese policymakers have also recognised that the country’s traditionally low household consumption cannot remain a permanent feature of its economy. While official publications describe the existing model as historically appropriate, they also suggest gradual adjustments will be necessary to ensure sustainable long-term growth. Despite these acknowledgements, Beijing remains cautious about implementing rapid reforms, fearing that abrupt policy changes could undermine economic stability. International studies continue to raise concerns over China’s economic practices. Recent research suggests that government subsidies have played a significant role in boosting the global market share of many Chinese companies, while other reports attribute much of China’s export growth to weak domestic consumption and industrial overcapacity. Analysts also note that China continues to invest in productive assets at a much faster pace than Europe and the United States, even though returns on those investments have declined. Many experts believe Beijing’s increasingly assertive defence of its economic model reflects growing confidence that it can manage trade tensions with Western partners without fundamentally changing its industrial strategy.
