Ryan Reynolds says he feels ‘so lucky’ after s…

Ryan Reynolds is showing heartfelt appreciation for the fans who have supported his journey as Deadpool for the past decade. Following his surprise appearance at San Diego Comic-Con, the actor took to social media to express his gratitude, describing himself as “so lucky” to spend time with the passionate Marvel community ahead of the highly anticipated release of Avengers: Doomsday.

The 49-year-old actor made one of Comic-Con’s biggest surprises when he secretly roamed the convention floor dressed in a full Deadpool costume. Blending into the crowd without security or special treatment, Reynolds interacted with fans, admired elaborate cosplay, and experienced the event from the perspective of an ordinary attendee. Later, he joined Marvel Studios’ Hall H presentation, where his unexpected appearance sparked cheers from thousands of fans.

Shortly after the event, Reynolds shared a behind-the-scenes video on X, reflecting on how far the Deadpool franchise has come. “The fans got Deadpool off the ground so many years ago,” he wrote. Marking 10 years since the release of the first Deadpool film and two years since Deadpool & Wolverine, the actor added that he felt “so lucky” to be among fans “whose unapologetic devotion brings so much joy to this world.”

Reynolds also highlighted how meaningful the experience was because it allowed him to enjoy Comic-Con without barriers. “No handlers, no security, no ropes. WHAT A GIFT,” he wrote, thanking everyone he met throughout the day. He praised fans not only for dressing as their favorite characters but also for helping create the vibrant culture that has made Comic-Con one of the world’s biggest celebrations of pop culture.

His Hall H appearance added even more excitement to Marvel’s presentation for Avengers: Doomsday. Remaining in character as Deadpool, Reynolds delivered several humorous remarks and exchanged jokes with Robert Downey Jr., who is returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Doctor Doom. While Marvel has yet to officially confirm the extent of Reynolds’ role in the upcoming blockbuster, his appearance immediately fueled speculation among fans.

The excitement surrounding Reynolds also comes as the actor has hinted that another Deadpool adventure is in development. Although he has not confirmed a release date or storyline, he recently revealed that he is actively working on ideas for the character’s future, keeping fans eager for what comes next.

With Avengers: Doomsday scheduled to arrive in theaters on December 18, 2026, Reynolds’ heartfelt message serves as a reminder that the success of Deadpool has always been driven by its loyal fanbase. As Marvel prepares for one of its biggest cinematic events, the actor’s gratitude has only strengthened the bond he shares with the millions of fans who continue to support the Merc with a Mouth.

Sanya Malhotra says desi ‘acts of service’ hurt women

Sanya Malhotra has spoken about breaking old patterns in her own family. She admitted she “forced” her mother to step back from the kitchen and focus on herself instead. According to her, the habit of women expressing love through nonstop service is not healthy. In many South Asian homes, she said, women spend their days caring for others while their own goals get set aside. She brought this up in a recent interview. Her own house followed the same pattern growing up. Women stayed in the kitchen. Men waited around for things to be handed to them. She said she didn’t fully see how much pressure her mother was under until she moved away to Mumbai. One memory stood out for her. Her mother once cried simply because she felt too sick to cook. Sanya told her that food had nothing to do with love. She explained that cooking is just one way people show care, not the only way it can be shown. That moment shifted things at home. Sanya started nudging her parents away from old habits. Her mother now listens when Sanya tells her to skip the kitchen for a day. She said it makes her proud watching her mother take time for herself in the mornings instead of rushing straight to chores. Her father was not left out either. Sanya said she often pushed him to do small things, like getting his own glass of water or making a simple meal. She admitted the change has not fully stuck yet, but she keeps reminding him. She connected all of this to her character in Mrs. In the film, she plays a newlywed whose entire identity gets swallowed by household duties. Sanya said many women tell her the story feels personal to them. That response, she said, leaves her both upset and hopeful, since even a small shift in mindset feels worth it to her. She also called out how sacrifice tends to get romanticised, especially when it comes to mothers. Women, she said, are often expected to give up their own dreams the moment they become parents. Talking about her mother’s past, Sanya revealed she once wanted to become a fashion designer. It took her years to understand her mother had dreams of her own beyond raising a family. As for the criticism Mrs received, Sanya said none of it bothered her. She said she has no interest in defending her views to people who never even watched the film. She last appeared in Netflix’s Toaster and is currently working on Bandar and Sundar Poonam.

Rehman Bhola reportedly taken into custody after c…

Rehman, widely known as Rehman Bhola, was reportedly taken into custody following a clash and firing incident at the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) headquarters in Karachi’s Bahadurabad area. The reported detention comes shortly after Rehman Bhola was acquitted in the Baldia Factory fire case, drawing renewed public attention to his activities. According to local reports, Rehman Bhola was taken into custody from his residence in North Nazimabad late Sunday night. The reported operation followed a dispute and exchange of gunfire that allegedly occurred at MQM-P’s temporary headquarters in Bahadurabad. CCTV footage circulating on social media and cited in local media reports appears to show plainclothes personnel, uniformed police officers, and female officers escorting Rehman Bhola from his residence before taking him away in official vehicles. However, authorities have not publicly verified the authenticity of the footage. Despite widespread reports of the detention, police officials had not issued an official statement confirming Rehman Bhola’s custody by late Monday night. As a result, the exact legal basis for the reported action and the charges, if any, remain unclear. The reported detention follows tensions at the MQM-P headquarters, where a dispute reportedly escalated into a firing incident on Sunday evening. While the circumstances surrounding the clash are still being investigated, reports indicate that law enforcement agencies launched operations in different parts of Karachi following the incident. Media reports also suggest that several MQM office-bearers and workers were detained from various areas of the city as part of the ongoing investigation. However, authorities have yet to release an official count of those taken into custody or provide details regarding their alleged involvement. Rehman Bhola recently returned to the public spotlight after being acquitted in the Baldia Factory fire case, one of Pakistan’s most high-profile criminal cases. His reported detention has therefore attracted significant attention, although officials have not linked the custody directly to any specific criminal allegation. The investigation into the Bahadurabad incident remains ongoing. Law enforcement agencies are expected to examine available evidence, including CCTV recordings and witness statements, to determine the sequence of events and identify those responsible for the reported violence. Until an official statement is issued, many details surrounding Rehman Bhola’s reported detention and the broader investigation remain unconfirmed. Authorities are expected to provide further updates as the inquiry progresses.

Padikkal hits unbeaten ton as India dominate Sri Lanka

GALLE: Devdutt Padikkal marked his return to India’s Test side in spectacular fashion, scoring an unbeaten century as India finished the opening day of the first Test against Sri Lanka at 288-2 on Saturday. The left-handed batter, recalled as a late replacement for the injured Sai Sudharsan, remained unbeaten on 131 from 178 balls, striking 12 fours and a six. His composed innings put India firmly in control on a rain-affected day at the Galle International Stadium. Padikkal’s century was the first of his Test career and strengthened his case for a permanent place at No. 3. The 26-year-old had last played a Test in November 2024 but entered the match with confidence after scoring a hundred in India’s warm-up game in Colombo. He joined KL Rahul after opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was run out for 32 following a mix-up. The pair then produced a commanding 150-run partnership that shifted the momentum decisively towards India. Padikkal reached his half-century from 81 deliveries, while Rahul took 127 balls to register his 21st Test fifty. Rahul eventually retired hurt on 77 after suffering cramps but is expected to continue his innings on the second day. India captain Shubman Gill also fell for 16, attempting to clear mid-off against spinner Prabath Jayasuriya. Rishabh Pant, however, remained unbeaten alongside Padikkal on 27, leaving India with a strong platform for a big first-innings total. Sri Lanka’s fielding coach Jordon Gregory admitted his side had missed opportunities, while praising Padikkal’s discipline and temperament. Rain restricted the day to just 73 overs from the scheduled 90, prompting officials to bring Sunday’s play forward by 15 minutes. The Test is particularly significant as it marks India’s return to Sri Lanka for Test cricket after several years, with valuable World Test Championship points at stake. India have also maintained an unbeaten Test record against Sri Lanka since 2015. With Padikkal settled at the crease and Pant providing support, India will enter the second day with the clear opportunity to build a massive total and put Sri Lanka under early pressure. Still to bat: D. Jurel, R. Jadeja, M. Suthar, K. Yadav, M. Siraj, P. Krishna Fall of wickets: 47 (Jaiswal), 236 (Gill) Sri Lanka Bowling A. Fernando: 10-1-28-0 (1nb) L. Kumara: 10-1-51-0 K. Sindh announces August 4 school holiday

The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department has announced that all public and private educational institutions across the province will remain closed on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, in observance of the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA). According to an official notification issued by the department, the holiday will be observed on 20th Safar 1448 AH, marking the annual commemoration of Chehlum. The decision applies to all government and privately managed schools operating under the administrative control of the School Education and Literacy Department throughout Sindh. The notification stated that the closure was approved following a decision taken during a meeting of the provincial Steering Committee held on February 12, 2026. It confirmed that all educational institutions under the department’s jurisdiction would remain closed on August 4 to facilitate the observance of the religious occasion. Chehlum is observed every year on the 20th of Safar and marks the conclusion of the 40-day mourning period following the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), his family members, and companions in the historic Battle of Karbala in 680 AD. The occasion holds immense religious significance for Muslims, particularly for those who participate in mourning gatherings and commemorative processions held across the country. As part of the annual observances, mourning processions featuring Alam, Tazia, and Zuljinah are expected to take place in several cities and towns across Sindh. Thousands of devotees traditionally participate in these events to pay tribute to the sacrifices made by Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala. In light of the large public gatherings expected during Chehlum, the Sindh Home Department has also announced additional security measures aimed at maintaining law and order throughout the province. A day before the school holiday notification was issued, the Home Department imposed a province-wide ban on pillion riding for the day of Chehlum. The temporary restriction is intended to strengthen security arrangements and minimise the risk of any untoward incidents during the religious processions and gatherings. Authorities have clarified that the ban forms part of a broader security plan implemented each year for major religious occasions. Law enforcement agencies have been directed to ensure strict compliance with the measures while facilitating the safe conduct of mourning events. In a separate notification, the Sindh Home Department also announced the extension of Section 144 across the province for another month. The renewed restrictions came into effect on August 1 and will remain in force as part of ongoing efforts to preserve public order. Under Section 144, several activities have been prohibited throughout Sindh, including wall chalking, public rallies, demonstrations, and the open display of weapons. The restrictions are designed to prevent any activities that could disrupt peace or pose security concerns during the mourning period. The provincial government has urged citizens to cooperate with the authorities and follow the issued guidelines to help ensure that Chehlum observances are conducted peacefully and securely across Sindh.

Cuban president accuses US of attempting to seize island amid economic pressure

Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel has denounced Washington’s escalating pressure campaign against Cuba as a “genocidal policy”, alleging that the United States is seeking to “appropriate” the nation. Speaking in Pinar del Río during the 73rd anniversary of the Moncada Barracks assault, Díaz-Canel stated that “Cuba is today waging a historic battle … against the walls of a genocidal policy whose objective is to suffocate an entire people in order to appropriate the country”. He further described the US blockade as “a weapon of war” that “causes deaths” and accused Washington of attempting to trigger a “social explosion with the sole aim of installing governments aligned with its imperial interests”. The sharp condemnation comes amid severe energy shortages, rolling blackouts, and financial distress brought on by expanded US sanctions, an oil blockade, and recent restrictions targeting Cuba’s overseas medical missions program. While Washington maintains that Cuba poses a regional security threat, Díaz-Canel called for national unity and the implementation of recent economic reforms, reaffirming that Cuba’s political model remains non-negotiable.
