Christopher Nolan has built a career on pushing cinematic boundaries with thought-provoking blockbusters such as Inception, Interstellar, The Dark Knight trilogy and the Oscar-winning Oppenheimer. But despite his success across multiple genres, the acclaimed filmmaker says there is one type of movie he has no desire to direct anytime soon—a romantic comedy. 

While promoting his latest epic, The Odyssey, during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Nolan was asked whether fans could ever expect him to make a romantic comedy. Although the question was posed jokingly, the director gave a surprisingly thoughtful answer, admitting that the idea genuinely intimidates him. 

“I think doing a rom-com would be incredibly difficult,” Nolan said. “I love watching those movies.” However, he explained that making audiences laugh consistently is one of the toughest challenges in filmmaking, giving immense credit to directors and actors who specialize in comedy. 

The two-time Academy Award winner went on to explain why comedy demands a unique level of precision. According to Nolan, filmmakers working in dramatic or suspenseful genres have more room for interpretation if a particular scene doesn’t resonate with viewers. Comedy, on the other hand, leaves little room for error because jokes either land—or they don’t. That pressure, he admitted, is enough to make him “terrified” of attempting the genre himself. 

Nolan’s comments have quickly sparked discussion among movie lovers, many of whom praised his honesty. Fans pointed out that although the filmmaker has mastered science fiction, historical drama, superhero films, psychological thrillers and war epics, his willingness to acknowledge the difficulty of comedy reflects his respect for fellow filmmakers. 

Interestingly, while Nolan appears reluctant to direct a romantic comedy, he recently revealed that The Odyssey has increased his interest in another genre—horror. The filmmaker said working on the mythological adventure, which features several frightening sequences, has left him eager to explore horror further, provided he finds the right story. 

The Odyssey, starring Matt Damon, Tom Holland and Anne Hathaway, marks another ambitious project for Nolan. Shot entirely using IMAX cameras, the film has received praise for its scale, practical effects and emotional storytelling, continuing the director’s tradition of delivering visually spectacular cinematic experiences. 

Although fans may never see Christopher Nolan helm a lighthearted romantic comedy, his candid remarks highlight the immense respect he has for the genre. For now, the celebrated filmmaker remains committed to telling bold, ambitious stories—while happily leaving romantic laughs to directors who have mastered the art of comedy.

He said the significant flow of funds into manufacturing demonstrates renewed confidence in Pakistan’s industrial sector. He further stated that increased financial support for the trade and agriculture sectors has contributed to higher production, stronger commercial activity, and improved investment by private businesses. Enhanced credit availability, he said, is helping enterprises expand operations, create employment opportunities, and strengthen overall economic performance. Shahzad described the record lending as a positive indicator of the country’s economic recovery, saying that rising private-sector borrowing reflects improving investor sentiment and greater confidence in Pakistan’s financial system. He added that sustained access to bank financing would remain essential for maintaining economic momentum, boosting productivity, and supporting long-term, sustainable growth.

    Israeli strikes kill two in Gaza as hospital medicine warehouses are destroyed

    Two Palestinians were killed in an Israeli air strike in Gaza on Saturday, while separate strikes destroyed warehouses storing medical supplies for Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital, raising new concerns about access to healthcare in the territory as uncertainty continues over a possible agreement between Israel and Hamas. In another strike earlier the same day, two warehouses near Al Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al Balah were destroyed. Gaza’s Health Ministry said the buildings contained essential medicines and medical equipment used by the hospital to treat patients, including those receiving dialysis for kidney failure. Other supplies such as wound care materials and gauze were also stored there. The attack also damaged two additional medical storage facilities and the hospital’s outpatient clinic. Hospital officials said no injuries were reported among staff or patients during the incident, but they warned that the destruction of medical supplies would make it more difficult to provide treatment to those in need. Dr Khalil al Daqran, who works at the hospital, condemned the strike and said the destroyed warehouse contained critical medical resources needed for daily operations. He said the loss of the supplies would place further strain on healthcare services already struggling under difficult conditions. Witnesses said Israeli forces issued an evacuation warning before carrying out the strike. The Israeli military did not immediately comment on the attack targeting the warehouse complex.     The Lahore High Court has issued a 265-page detailed judgment in cases related to smog and environmental degradation, warning that continued damage to nature could leave future generations without essential natural resources. The court said human activities have pushed the environment and climate to a critical stage. Pollution, excessive use of natural resources and environmental degradation are intensifying rapidly, making immediate and effective action necessary. The judgment stressed that environmental protection is not solely the responsibility of government departments. Citizens, institutions, businesses, educational organisations and local authorities must also play their part. The court expressed serious concern over the rapid decline in groundwater levels, describing the situation as extremely dangerous. It stressed that water remains essential for human survival and warned that its unnecessary consumption and wastage could create severe problems for future generations. The court directed relevant authorities to introduce practical measures to conserve water and reduce unnecessary consumption. As part of its water conservation measures, the court directed authorities to ensure that water used for ablution at mosques is collected instead of being wasted. The court ordered that the collected water should be reused for watering plants and greenery. It observed that even small conservation measures could have a significant impact when implemented on a large scale. The judgment highlighted the strong connection between environmental protection and fundamental human rights. The court noted that the right to a clean, healthy and sustainable environment has gained constitutional significance in Pakistan following the insertion of Article 9A into the Constitution. It called for long-term policies to protect air, water, soil, trees and other natural resources instead of relying only on temporary measures during severe smog episodes. The court warned that continued neglect of the environment could cause irreversible damage. It stressed that authorities must treat environmental protection as a permanent priority rather than responding only when smog or other environmental emergencies become severe. The Lahore High Court has issued several directions during the long-running smog case covering air pollution, tree plantation, groundwater conservation and urban environmental management. Through its continuing supervisory role, the court has also monitored the implementation of these measures by government departments and environmental bodies. The judgment called for collective action and changes in human behaviour to tackle Punjab’s growing environmental challenges and protect natural resources for future generations.
