Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi held talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Tehran on Tuesday as diplomatic efforts continue to ease tensions between Iran and the United States.

The meeting focused on regional developments and matters of mutual interest. Iranian state media reported that the two ministers also discussed diplomatic and bilateral issues.

The meeting took place against the backdrop of continuing efforts to find a diplomatic way forward in the US-Iran conflict. Pakistan has remained engaged with regional partners as part of efforts to support dialogue and reduce tensions.

Iranian officials said Naqvi is expected to hold additional meetings with senior authorities during his visit to Tehran. Discussions are expected to cover bilateral relations, regional developments and issues affecting both countries.

The visit also comes around a month after Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni visited Islamabad. During that visit, Pakistani and Iranian officials held discussions on bilateral cooperation and regional matters.

Pakistan has maintained diplomatic contacts with both sides during the recent crisis. Islamabad has also sought to encourage dialogue as tensions between Tehran and Washington have increased.

Pakistan, along with Qatar, previously played a role in diplomatic efforts aimed at bringing Iran and the United States closer to an understanding. These efforts contributed to a memorandum of understanding between the two sides in June.

The latest meeting between Naqvi and Araghchi is therefore being viewed in the context of Islamabad’s broader diplomatic engagement with Tehran.

Officials have not released detailed information about the specific issues discussed during Tuesday’s meeting. Further details are expected after Naqvi completes his scheduled engagements with Iranian officials.

The event, organised with the support of the Russian Embassy, will feature screenings of four Russian movies. Organisers said admission will be free, but seating will be limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis. The organisers clarified that the event is open to the general public and is not restricted to invited guests. No seats will be reserved for embassy officials, special guests or any particular group. Visitors can choose to attend any of the four scheduled movie screenings. Families are also welcome to attend the event, providing they follow the age restrictions applicable to individual films. Organisers have particularly advised visitors to check the age classification before attending. Two of the movies are intended exclusively for adult audiences and will not be suitable for children. The film screenings are aimed at providing residents with an opportunity to experience Russian cinema and explore its cultural and artistic themes in an informal setting. Visitors are also permitted to take photographs and record videos during the event. However, they have been requested to respect other audience members and avoid creating disturbances. Guests have been asked not to use flashlights or make excessive noise while taking photographs or videos, so that the screenings can continue without disruption

The current environmental crisis marks the most severe dry spell to strike Karamoja in recent years, with the crucial rains failing completely since the start of the planting season in April. Health facilities across the region report a surge in children suffering from severe malnutrition, forcing desperate residents to seek low-paying, grueling work in informal gold-mining operations simply to purchase basic staples like maize and beans. The disaster comes amidst significant international aid reductions, particularly following severe budget cuts from donors such as USAID, which forced organisations like the World Food Programme to scale back assistance to over one million refugees in the country. In response, Ugandan officials and civil rights advocates emphasise that while emergency food distribution provides immediate life-saving relief, the government must prioritise long-term climate resilience, drought-resistant crops, and proper water infrastructure to permanently prevent recurring starvation in the region.

    Youth dialogue calls for climate action in Punjab

      A youth-led dialogue on climate action and greater youth participation in policymaking brought together parliamentarians, policymakers, environmental experts, civil society representatives and young people in Punjab. Pak Mission Society and Forman Christian College University jointly organised the event, where participants discussed climate policy, legislation and the role of young people in shaping environmental decisions. Parliamentary Secretary for Environment Kanwal Liaqat said Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz had identified climate change as a major priority after assuming office. She said the provincial government had since introduced several measures to address environmental challenges. Liaqat said brick kilns across Punjab must use zigzag technology to operate, while women environmental inspectors were helping strengthen monitoring and enforcement. She added that authorities were taking action against industries that pollute the air and water and were working to improve the condition of canals, streams and rivers. The dialogue also examined gaps in Punjab’s climate laws and policies. Members of Green Clubs presented five climate demands developed by children and young people, urging the government to give youth a stronger role in climate governance and policymaking. The event also featured a session titled “From Dreams to Reality: Advancing Youth-Led Climate Action in Pakistan,” moderated by environmental law expert Ahmed Rafi Alam. The concluding discussion focused on practical measures to address young people’s concerns and develop a roadmap for youth-led climate action in Pakistan. Participants included Rabia Chaudhry, Waqil Ahmed Khan, Dur-e-Shahwar, Dr Younas Zahid, Ahmed Rafi Alam, Hafiz Usman, Dr Abdul Qadir, Khurram Tauqeer and Shakeela Firdous.
