Thailand Closely Monitoring Thai-Cambodian Border Amid Reports of Tank Deployment, Says NSC

BANGKOK, Thailand — Thailand is actively monitoring the situation along its border with Cambodia following reports that China has delivered tanks to Cambodia, some of which have reportedly been deployed near the frontier, according to the National Security Council (NSC).

Hun Sen Denies Reports of Foreign Troops in Cambodia

NSC Secretary-General Chatchai Bangchuad described the current border situation as “delicate and fragile.” However, he stressed that both countries continue to observe an existing ceasefire agreement and that the situation remains manageable at the local level.

“Communication channels between the two countries are still functioning despite occasional friction,” Chatchai said. “While there may be some clashes or disagreements, there is still room for dialogue, allowing progress to continue.”

On the maritime front, Cambodia has moved to pursue compulsory conciliation under the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) regarding overlapping boundary claims with Thailand. Chatchai said the issue is being handled by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is preparing detailed responses and considering appropriate measures.

Chatchai addressed recent remarks by Cambodian acting head of state Hun Sen, who suggested Cambodia could use both negotiation and military force to reclaim territory. He advised viewing the comments within their proper political context.

“Hun Sen has to speak within that political context,” Chatchai noted. “Thailand will follow the appropriate approach as outlined by the prime minister.” He added that it is still too early to determine whether Hun Sen would pursue such actions, but confirmed that Thai authorities are prepared and will continue close monitoring.

Meanwhile, Hun Sen himself pushed back against what he called misreporting by some Thai media outlets. Speaking at a meeting with local councils and officials from Siem Reap and Oddar Meanchey provinces on Tuesday, he insisted that Cambodia remains committed to peaceful resolution of border issues.

“I did not call for military measures. I clearly emphasized peaceful means,” Hun Sen said, referring to earlier comments made at a displacement centre known as Waiting Village. He added that peaceful solutions will remain a core part of the Cambodian People’s Party’s political platform for the 2027 and 2028 elections.

Hun Sen urged Thai journalists to report his statements accurately and in full context, cautioning political leaders against relying solely on potentially distorted media accounts.

    Hyderabad police issue 45 e-challans

    Hyderabad Police have issued 45 e-challans for various traffic violations after introducing the e-challan system in the city. According to a police spokesperson, SSP Hyderabad Shahzeb Chachar directed officers to use modern technology to strengthen traffic law enforcement. Officers issued the challans through a mobile application after recording violations at different locations. DSP Hussainabad Ghulam Akbar, DSP Traffic Latifabad Masood Arain and SO Auto Bhan Faisal Ali supervised the operation. Police are paying particular attention to violations on Auto Bhan Road, including parking in no-parking areas, driving in the wrong direction, one-way violations and signal jumping. SSP Shahzeb Chachar has instructed officers to take action against traffic violators without discrimination and ensure motorists follow traffic rules. Hyderabad Police have also urged citizens to park only in designated areas, follow the correct direction of traffic and obey signals and other road regulations.

    QUETTA: A targeted anti-polio vaccination campaign will begin on Monday across 62 high-risk union councils in 13 districts of Balochistan as health authorities intensify efforts to stop the spread of the poliovirus and protect children from lifelong disability. According to the Provincial Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), the campaign will cover 209,557 children under the age of five. Trained vaccination teams will visit homes and designated centres to administer oral polio vaccine free of charge. Officials said 862 mobile vaccination teams have been deployed to conduct the campaign. In addition, 61 fixed vaccination centres and 72 transit vaccination points have been established to ensure that children travelling with their families or living in hard-to-reach areas are not missed. The EOC said the campaign is focused on high-risk union councils where the threat of poliovirus transmission remains significant. Health authorities noted that the virus continues to circulate in some parts of the province, making regular vaccination campaigns essential to prevent new infections. Officials stressed that polio is an incurable disease that can cause permanent paralysis, but it is completely preventable through timely vaccination. They urged parents to cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that every eligible child receives polio drops during the campaign. The EOC warned that every child who remains unvaccinated increases the risk of virus transmission within the community. Officials said even a small number of missed children can allow the virus to continue circulating and endanger other children. The campaign will be carried out in Barkhan, Dukki, Jaffarabad, Jhal Magsi, Loralai, Qila Saifullah, Nasirabad, Sherani, Sohbatpur, Usta Muhammad, Zhob, Ziarat and Mastung. Special arrangements have been made in these districts to achieve maximum vaccination coverage. Health authorities said supervisors and monitoring teams will oversee the campaign to ensure transparency, improve performance and address any operational challenges. Officials added that vaccination teams have been instructed to reach every household in the targeted areas.

Sources described the development as a positive sign for Imran Khan and his family after a prolonged period of restrictions on family access. According to sources, authorities may continue easing restrictions on family meetings as long as the agreed SOPs remain in place and relatives comply with them. The understanding also requires family members who meet Imran Khan to refrain from making political comments or addressing the media after leaving the prison. The arrangement has also surfaced during proceedings before the Supreme Court, where assurances regarding compliance with the conditions have reportedly been given.     Islamabad / Karachi: The Sindh Healthcare Commission came under intense scrutiny in the Senate after lawmakers questioned its ability to control illegal medical practices and respond effectively to the growing HIV situation in Sindh. Senators raised concerns over delayed action, staff shortages, and legal weaknesses that they said were limiting the Commission’s performance. The issue was discussed during a meeting of the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services, Regulations and Coordination chaired by Senator Amir Waliuddin Chishti. The meeting was attended by Senator Syed Masroor Ahsan, Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri, Senator Nadeem Ahmed Bhutto, Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt, Senator Anusha Rehman Ahmad Khan through Zoom, Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal and Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani along with senior federal and provincial health officials. Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt questioned why FIRs had still not been registered against those responsible in connection with the HIV situation, while Senator Syed Masroor Ahsan expressed dissatisfaction over delays in action and questioned the role of the Sindh Healthcare Commission in preventing the spread of the disease. Responding to the Committee, the Chief Executive Officer of the Sindh Healthcare Commission said the Commission had already registered several FIRs against medical quacks. However, he stated that weaknesses in the existing legal framework allowed many accused to obtain bail shortly after arrest. He informed the Committee that amendments to the law were being prepared to strengthen action against quackery. The CEO also disclosed that the Commission has only around 170 officials serving across the entire province, highlighting a serious shortage of human resources. Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri questioned why the Commission remained understaffed and asked whether the issue had been formally raised with the Sindh Government. Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal requested the Committee Chairman to issue directions so the matter could move forward. Senator Syed Masroor Ahsan stressed that the Government should acknowledge administrative shortcomings wherever they exist. He also asked how many times the Sindh Healthcare Commission had formally requested additional staff from the Provincial Government. The discussion also focused on the governance structure of the Commission. Members were informed that after the 18th Constitutional Amendment, the Sindh Health Department no longer exercises administrative control over the Sindh Healthcare Commission. Federal Minister Syed Mustafa Kamal suggested that legislative measures should be considered to address governance-related issues affecting provincial institutions. The Committee also examined the appointment process for members of the Sindh Healthcare Commission Board. The Secretary Health informed members that the Department did not have the authority to appoint or remove Board members. Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri observed that such limitations weaken accountability, while Senator Nasir Mehmood Butt expressed concern that the Chief Executive Officer of the Commission was not administratively answerable to the Secretary Health. Earlier in the meeting, Sindh Labour Minister Saeed Ghani informed the Committee that two inquiries had been conducted into the Valika Hospital incident, during which 37 officials were identified for disciplinary action. He said the inquiry findings had not been made public due to security considerations but assured the Committee that strict action would be taken against those found responsible. He also informed members that the Sindh Government had established a social security fund to support families affected by HIV.
