Jason Sudeikis is celebrating his Kansas City roots after bringing his beloved hometown to the center of the Ted Lasso season 4 premiere.

The 50-year-old actor and comedian, who stars as the warm-hearted football coach Ted Lasso, recently spoke with PEOPLE about returning to Kansas City with several of his castmates. For Sudeikis, filming there was more than simply another location shoot. A special homecoming

Sudeikis grew up in the Kansas City area and has maintained a strong connection to the city. He frequently returns for charity events and other appearances, but bringing the Ted Lasso cast there created a different experience.

Some of his co-stars, including Hannah Waddingham and Brendan Hunt, were already familiar with Kansas City. For Juno Temple and Jeremy Swift, however, the 10-day shoot offered an opportunity to experience the city for the first time.

The season 4 premiere, titled “Home,” puts Kansas City at the heart of Ted’s story. The episode features recognizable locations and local touches, making the city feel like an important character rather than simply a backdrop.

One memorable stop is Gates Bar-B-Q, a Kansas City institution that has been serving barbecue since 1946. In the episode, Ted introduces his British friends to the local favorite, giving viewers a taste of the city’s famous food culture.

The Kansas City setting also has deeper meaning for Ted. At the end of season 3, he returned home to be closer to his son, Henry. When Sudeikis initially considered the story complete, he felt Ted had already made his way back to Kansas City.

    PDMA issues high alert as heavy monsoon rains claim lives, trigger flooding across country

    Lahore: The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a 24-hour high alert as torrential monsoon rains continue to batter large parts of Pakistan, resulting in loss of life, widespread flooding and extensive damage to homes and infrastructure. In Punjab, at least eight people were killed and 37 others injured after roofs and walls collapsed during heavy rainfall. Four fatalities were reported in Gujranwala, while a child drowned in an underpass in Kamalia after being swept away by accumulated rainwater. Three more people lost their lives in separate roof collapse incidents in Pakpattan and Sahiwal. Torrential rains inundated streets, residential neighbourhoods and commercial areas in Sialkot, while low-lying areas of Faisalabad were submerged, major roads were flooded and traffic was severely disrupted. A woman and a young girl were also injured after the roof of a house collapsed in Faisalabad. Heavy showers were also reported in Wazirabad, Kamalia, Hafizabad, Pindi Bhattian, Bhera, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Layyah and Dera Ismail Khan, leaving roads and streets submerged. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned of flash floods in hill torrents and seasonal streams, while urban flooding remains a significant concern in Gujranwala, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara and Sahiwal over the next 48 hours. According to official rainfall data, Gujranwala received 142 millimetres of rain, followed by Mandi Bahauddin with 133 millimetres, Narowal with 95 millimetres, Sialkot with 85 millimetres and Hafizabad with 70 millimetres. In Lahore, two people were killed and two others, including a woman and a young child, sustained injuries when the roof of a house collapsed in (Kot Babu Khan) Raiwind. The roof, reportedly constructed with wooden beams, gave way during the heavy downpour. Rainfall was also recorded across several areas of Lahore, including Lahore High Court, Kalma Chowk, Mall Road, Ring Road, Model Town, Hamdard Chowk, Gulshan Ravi and Samanabad, where the highest rainfall of 4.2 millimetres was recorded. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, at least 14 people have lost their lives and 19 others have been injured in rain-related incidents. The victims include six children and two women. According to the PDMA, six houses were completely destroyed, while 22 others sustained partial damage. Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister Amjad Hussain visited the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), where NDMA Chairman Lieutenant General Inam Haider briefed him on preparedness measures and the risks associated with the ongoing monsoon season. Authorities also reported low-level flooding in the Jhelum, Sutlej, Ravi and Chenab rivers, although water levels remain within their channels. PMD official Dr. Irfan Virk said the weather advisory issued for July 18-25 had already warned of widespread monsoon activity. He said heavy rainfall is expected to continue over the next two days, particularly in Mansehra, Upper and Lower Dir, Swat, Chitral, Battagram, Kohistan, Peshawar, Swabi, Mardan, Kurram, Kohat, Karak and Dera Ismail Khan. Officials said the current weather system is expected to persist over central Pakistan for another two days before gradually weakening. Citizens have been advised to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel to flood-prone areas and follow official safety advisories due to the continued risk of flooding, structural collapses and other rain-related hazards.

    Turkish President Erdogan: Makkah pact to reshape regional security

    Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said the joint defence agreement signed by Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia will strengthen security cooperation and contribute to peace and stability in the region. During the visit, Erdogan said he met with Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The three leaders subsequently signed a joint defence agreement, according to Erdogan. He said the agreement is based on the principle of collective defence and would further strengthen security and military cooperation among the three countries. Erdogan said the pact would also encourage joint projects in the defence industry and facilitate stronger cooperation in combating terrorism. The Turkish president said the agreement reaffirmed the right to self-defence recognised under Article 51 of the United Nations Charter. He stressed that the agreement was not directed against any country. Instead, Erdogan said the pact remained open to brotherly countries that seek peace, prosperity and stability in the region. He added that Türkiye would continue to pursue its principled position of resolving conflicts and crises through dialogue and diplomacy. Erdogan also expressed hope that the visit to Makkah and the agreement reached by the three countries would bring peace, stability and prosperity to the wider region. The agreement marks a significant step in defence cooperation between Türkiye, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia and establishes a framework for closer coordination against shared security threats.

    KARACHI: The father of young Karachi resident Mir Raza has expressed confidence in the newly formed investigation team. He said he felt, for the first time in 13 days, that the investigation was moving in the right direction. Mir Raza’s parents, lawyer Jibran Nasir and members of the new investigation team visited locations connected to the case. The visit was aimed at reviewing important points and gathering information that could help investigators understand what happened. Jibran Nasir said the family had identified several important locations on its own. These locations were later shown to the police. He said Mir Raza’s parents were cooperating fully with the investigators and answering their questions. Nasir said the investigation team was waiting for the results of samples collected during the post-mortem examination. He said additional samples obtained after the exhumation had also been sent to a forensic laboratory. The lawyer said the family now believed that an honest and serious officer was handling the investigation. He said the family had earlier faced difficulties in getting the matter investigated properly. Mir Raza’s father, Mir Hussain, said the family still wanted clear answers about his son’s death. He said the exact circumstances surrounding the incident had not yet been established. According to him, the initial investigation should have been more effective. He said timely and proper action at the beginning could have taken the case to a different stage. Mir Hussain said the new investigation team was listening to the family’s concerns. He said investigators were considering the information provided by the parents. The family, he added, now had greater confidence in the process. He said the main objective was to establish what happened to Mir Raza and how the incident took place. The family wanted every aspect of the case to be examined. Mir Hussain said Mir Raza’s kitchen was located around half a kilometre from the site of the incident. He also said information about three suspicious individuals had already been shared with the police. The victim’s father further alleged that the previous investigation team had not properly shared details of the inquiry with the family. He hoped the new team would maintain transparency and investigate the case from all possible angles. The family said it would continue cooperating with investigators. Cooperation in this area could support the adoption of modern aquaculture techniques while providing opportunities for technical collaboration and investment. The initiative is expected to contribute to the development of more efficient fish-farming practices and strengthen cooperation between relevant institutions and businesses in Pakistan and Belarus. Proposal for Agricultural Machinery Testing Centre During the meeting, Rana Tanveer Hussain proposed the establishment of a universal agricultural machinery testing facility or centre at the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC), with financial and technical assistance from Belarus. The proposed centre would provide a platform for testing agricultural machinery and assessing its suitability for use in Pakistan’s farming sector. The Belarusian side took note of the proposal and agreed to examine the initiative further. As part of the process, the two sides agreed to conduct a detailed assessment of the proposed facility. This will include identifying the machinery and equipment required for the centre and evaluating locations suggested by Pakistan for establishing machinery testing stations. Pakistan and Belarus also agreed to facilitate exchange visits by highly qualified technical experts by the end of 2026. The visits are expected to help specialists assess technical requirements, exchange expertise and explore practical mechanisms for implementing the proposed cooperation. Pakistan Seeks Practical Outcomes Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasised the need to transform bilateral cooperation into practical commercial, technological and institutional results. He said Pakistan was interested in expanding its engagement with Belarus in emerging areas of agriculture and food security, while creating greater opportunities for farmers, businesses, investors and technical experts. The minister highlighted the importance of stronger institutional and private-sector linkages to ensure that agreements between the two countries translate into tangible economic benefits. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the growing cooperation between Pakistan and Belarus and reaffirmed their commitment to expanding collaboration in agriculture, food trade, fisheries, technology and agricultural machinery.
