Cambodian Rockets, Drones, and Shells Strike Thai Border Provinces

BANGKOK – Cambodian forces launched a multi-front assault on Tuesday morning, firing rockets, deploying suicide drones, and shelling areas across three northeastern Thai provinces, according to the 2nd Army Region. The attacks began around 4:50 a.m. with rockets launched from BM-21 multiple rocket launchers.

In Surin province, rockets struck the Ta Khwai and Ta Muen areas of Phanom Dong Rak district, as well as Chong Plot Tang and Chong Rayi in Kap Choeng district. In Si Sa Ket, impacts were reported in Phra Wihan, Phu Makua, Sam Tae, Phu Phi, and Chong Ta Thao areas within Kantharalak district. Suicide drones and bomb-carrying drones also targeted locations in Surin and Ubon Ratchathani, including Chong An Ma and Hill 561.

Artillery shells hit several locations across Si Sa Ket, Surin, and Ubon Ratchathani. The 2nd Army stated that Cambodia is intensifying efforts to seize the Phu Makua area but confirmed that Thai forces remain in control of key positions after responding with direct and indirect fire, significantly degrading the opponent’s capabilities.

In related operations, Thai soldiers targeted a deserted building used by scammers near Chong An Ma, destroyed anti-drone antenna towers in Si Sa Ket, and cleared an encroaching cashew plantation in the Chong Rayi area. Thai forces also retook the ancient Prasat Khana temple in Surin’s Kap Choeng district.

Meanwhile, the 1st Army Region reported that Cambodian troops fired rifle shots at Ban Nong Chan village in Sa Kaeo province on Monday afternoon. Thai soldiers responded and later retook an illegally occupied area in Ban Nong Ya Kaew village. During the operation, Thai forces discovered newly placed PMN-2 landmines and reported that Cambodian heavy weapons had targeted houses in Ban Khok Thahan village.

Defence Ministry spokesman RAdm Surasant Kongsiri stated Tuesday that Cambodia continues to provoke Thailand with weapons fire and landmine deployment, leaving Thailand no choice but to respond. “Thai military operations will continue until Cambodia shows it wants peace,” he said.

Army spokesman Maj Gen Winthai Suvaree condemned Cambodia’s rocket attacks as a violation of sovereignty and a serious threat to public safety, asserting that Thailand’s actions comply with international law. Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has vowed to continue military operations to protect Thai sovereignty and ruled out negotiations until Cambodia fully halts its attacks.

The latest clashes follow a period of heightened tension after a ceasefire agreement brokered in July and a peace accord signed in October under international observation.

    ISLAMABAD: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) collected Rs44 billion in income tax from the salaried class during July, the first month of the current financial year. The collection was higher than the amount collected from salaried individuals during the same month in the previous two years. FBR had collected Rs42 billion from the salaried class in July 2025 and Rs30 billion in July 2024. According to sources, the higher collection from salaried individuals came despite an overall decline in income tax collection in some sectors. The figures indicate that the salaried class continued to contribute a significant share of income tax revenue at the beginning of the new financial year. Sources said property buying and selling transactions increased during July this year. However, tax collection from property transactions remained lower compared with the corresponding period last year. The development comes after the government introduced changes to income tax rates for several salaried income brackets in the federal budget for the current financial year. The government reduced tax rates on annual incomes above Rs2.2 million as part of its budget measures. Under the revised tax structure, the income tax rate for individuals earning between Rs2.2 million and Rs3.2 million annually was reduced from 23 per cent to 20 per cent. Similarly, the tax rate for the annual income bracket of Rs3.2 million to Rs4.1 million was reduced from 30 per cent to 25 per cent. For individuals earning between Rs4.1 million and Rs5.6 million annually, the income tax rate was reduced from 35 per cent to 29 per cent. The tax rate for people earning between Rs5.6 million and Rs7 million annually was also reduced from 35 per cent to 32 per cent. Despite these reductions in tax rates, FBR’s collection from salaried individuals increased in July compared with the previous two years. The figures show that the tax contribution from the salaried class remained strong despite changes in the tax slabs.

    Ex-army chief Qamar Bajwa undergoes Dubai check-up

    Former Chief of Army Staff General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa has been shifted to the United Arab Emirates for further medical examination and treatment. Family sources said Bajwa is currently in the UAE. He travelled abroad after completing his initial treatment in Pakistan. The former army chief was examined by a team of specialist doctors in Dubai. The doctors carried out a detailed medical check-up. According to family sources, Bajwa’s condition has improved considerably after the medical examination. However, the results of some important medical tests are still awaited. Doctors will review the remaining reports before giving their final recommendations. His further treatment and return to Pakistan will depend on the doctors’ advice. Family sources said Bajwa will stay in the UAE for a few days. He will remain with his son during his stay in the country. A final decision about his return to Pakistan will be taken after the doctors review all his medical reports. His family is also awaiting the doctors’ further instructions. Bajwa had suffered serious injuries around four and a half months ago. He reportedly slipped and fell at his residence. The accident caused injuries to his head and back. He was immediately shifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalpindi for treatment. The former army chief remained admitted to the hospital for around three weeks. He received treatment under the supervision of military doctors. At the time, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) officially confirmed that Bajwa had been injured after falling at his residence. The military’s media wing said he was receiving treatment at CMH Rawalpindi. His condition was monitored by doctors during his stay at the hospital. After completing his initial treatment in Pakistan, Bajwa later travelled to the UAE for further medical assessment. His current stay in the UAE is expected to continue until doctors complete their assessment. The results of the pending tests will help determine the next course of treatment. Family sources have not provided a specific date for his return to Pakistan. They said the decision will be made after consultation with doctors. General (retd) Qamar Javed Bajwa served as Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff from November 2016 to November 2022. He retired from the position after completing his tenure in November 2022.

    ECC approves hike in petrol, diesel dealers’ mar…

    ISLAMABAD: The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) has approved an increase in the dealers’ margin on petrol and diesel by Rs1.34 per litre. According to sources, the dealers’ margin on both petrol and diesel has been raised from Rs8.64 to Rs9.98 per litre. Vice Chairman of the All Pakistan Petrol Pumps Owners Association Nauman Butt thanked the prime minister and petroleum minister for approving the increase. The association said the government had fulfilled its long-standing demand by increasing the dealers’ margin by Rs1.34 per litre. Meanwhile, the government collected more petroleum levy revenue than both its target and the International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) estimate during the last fiscal year. According to Finance Ministry sources, petroleum levy collections exceeded Rs1.56 trillion during the previous fiscal year. More than Rs50 billion was also collected under the Climate Support Levy. Petroleum levy collections were around Rs100 billion higher than the government’s target and Rs21 billion above the IMF’s estimate. At present, a petroleum levy of Rs80 per litre is being charged on petrol. High-Speed Diesel carries a levy of Rs77.28 per litre. In addition, a separate Climate Support Levy of Rs5 per litre is being imposed on both petrol and diesel.

    Prisoner dies by suicide in Muzaffargarh jail

      A convicted murderer allegedly died by suicide inside Muzaffargarh District Jail, prompting authorities to launch an investigation into the incident. According to police, Shahid Iqbal Gabol, a resident of Alipur, had been serving a life sentence after a court convicted him of murdering his wife. Jail authorities said Gabol was also receiving treatment for a mental health condition during his imprisonment. Police said Gabol allegedly used a bedsheet to make a noose and hung himself from a grill inside the prison. Jail staff discovered him and informed the relevant authorities. Police from City Police Station said they have begun legal proceedings to determine the circumstances surrounding the death. Meanwhile, prison officials have launched an internal inquiry to establish whether any negligence by jail staff contributed to the incident and to identify those responsible, if any. Authorities are expected to examine the circumstances leading up to the death, including the prisoner’s mental health treatment and the security measures in place at the time of the incident.
