Sanam Saeed backs Durefishan amid accent criticism

KARACHI: Actor Sanam Saeed has spoken out in support of Durefishan Saleem after the latter faced criticism on social media over her accent and dialogue delivery in the drama Dar-e-Nijaat.

The debate began after a scene featuring Durefishan, who plays Zaryab, gained attention online. In the scene, her character speaks to Zamil, played by Nameer Nawaz Khan, using a combination of Urdu and English.

Some social media users criticised the actor’s accent and delivery, while others questioned the way certain lines were written and performed.

Saeed criticised what she described as excessive online backlash against actors. She said repeatedly targeting a performer over the way they speak could be hurtful and unnecessary.

Her comments prompted further discussion among viewers, with many users agreeing that actors should not be subjected to personal attacks over performance-related issues.

Several viewers defended Durefishan and said her accent did not negatively affect the scene. They argued that criticism should focus on the overall performance rather than becoming a personal attack.

However, some users maintained that dialogue delivery is an important part of acting. They argued that an actor’s accent and pronunciation can influence how effectively a script reaches the audience.

Others said their criticism was directed at the writing and execution of the scene rather than Durefishan personally. They described such feedback as part of normal discussion surrounding television performances.

The online debate has once again highlighted the growing influence of social media on television dramas. Performances, dialogue and even actors’ accents can quickly become topics of public discussion after scenes are shared online.

Saeed’s comments have also sparked a broader conversation about the difference between constructive criticism and personal attacks on performers.

Durefishan has established herself as a prominent name in Pakistan’s television industry. She gained widespread recognition through Ishq Murshid, where she appeared opposite Bilal Abbas Khan

Eight killed as house roof collapses in Lahore

LAHORE: At least eight people lost their lives after the roof of a house collapsed in Lahore’s Harbanspura area late Wednesday night, prompting a major rescue operation by emergency teams. Rescue 1122 personnel, assisted by the district administration, rushed to the scene and began clearing the debris in search of people trapped beneath the rubble. Lahore Deputy Commissioner Capt (retd) Muhammad Ali Ijaz visited the site and supervised the ongoing rescue efforts. Heavy machinery was deployed to speed up the operation and ensure the safe recovery of survivors. Officials said rescue workers continued searching through the debris as fears remained that more people could still be trapped. The deputy commissioner directed all relevant departments to use every available resource to complete the rescue operation as quickly as possible. He also ordered an inquiry to determine the cause of the roof collapse. The latest tragedy comes weeks after another roof collapse at a tuition centre in Lahore claimed the lives of 14 children. Authorities had registered a case against the building owners and contractor after investigators found that excessive weight placed on the damaged roof had caused it to cave in. Earlier this year, four children were also killed and around 20 others injured when the roof of a classroom at a private school in Dera Ghazi Khan collapsed during construction work. An official investigation concluded that construction material placed on the roof had exceeded its load-bearing capacity, leading to the collapse.

Kevin Owens made an unforgettable return to WWE after spending more than a year away from in-ring competition, defeating Sami Zayn, Finn Bálor and Gunther in a thrilling Fatal Four-Way match at SummerSlam 2026 Night Two. The victory marked a major milestone for the former Universal Champion, who had been sidelined since April 2025 due to a severe neck injury. The injury forced Owens to pull out of a scheduled WrestleMania showdown against Randy Orton and raised concerns about his wrestling future. After undergoing successful neck fusion surgery in July 2025, Owens spent over a year recovering and rehabilitating before finally receiving medical clearance to return to action. His comeback at Minneapolis’ U.S. Bank Stadium was kept completely under wraps, making it one of the biggest surprises of WWE’s biggest event of the summer. The match was originally announced as a one-on-one number-one contender’s contest between longtime rivals Sami Zayn and Finn Bálor. However, moments before the bout began, SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis appeared on stage and announced that Gunther would also be entering the match, turning it into a Triple Threat contest. Just when fans thought the surprises were over, Kevin Owens’ entrance music suddenly blasted through the arena. Before he could capitalize, Sami Zayn fought back with a trademark Exploder Suplex into the corner, shifting the momentum once again and bringing himself back into contention. Owens patiently waited for the perfect opportunity to strike. As the action reached its climax, he stunned Gunther with his signature Stunner before immediately turning his attention to Zayn, his longtime friend and former tag-team partner. Owens delivered another devastating Stunner, leaving Zayn unable to recover. Without hesitation, Owens covered Zayn for the decisive three-count, completing a remarkable comeback in his very first match after returning from injury. The emotional victory not only showcased Owens’ resilience but also proved that he remains a top contender despite his lengthy absence from WWE programming. Fans celebrated his successful return, with many calling it one of the most memorable moments of SummerSlam 2026. By winning the Fatal Four-Way contest, Owens also secured a guaranteed future WWE Championship opportunity against reigning champion CM Punk. The result immediately sets up a highly anticipated title clash between two of WWE’s biggest stars, adding another blockbuster rivalry to the company’s championship picture. After overcoming a career-threatening injury and an extended recovery period, Kevin Owens has officially announced his return to the top of WWE, and his impressive SummerSlam performance suggests that his journey back to championship gold may only be beginning.
