Saudi scholar greets Pakistan on I-DAY

ISLAMABAD : Prof. Ahmed Saad Alahmed, the president and acting rector of the university, extended ‘heartiest felicitations’ to the people of Pakistan from the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. Prof. Alahmed is a prominent Saudi scholar who is heading this university.

His message of felicitation expresses the profound bond of friendship between Pakistan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. “Pakistan was founded upon the conviction that binds us,” he said, adding that that conviction is the concept of “Muslim Ummah” and the “ties of faith”.

“This week, in the sanctified precincts of Makkah Almukarramah, that historic bond was consolidated once again through Makkah Accord,” he said, “The dignity and sanctity of one Muslim nation is the concern of all”.

He said he has a personal bond with Pakistanis because of his stay in this country. He said Pakistani people are blessed with the talent and resilience that few other nations can have. He said that he has no reason to doubt that International Islamic University Islamabad will take a prominent place in leading universities of the world.

He prayed for unity and peace among Muslim Ummah on this Independence Day.

International Islamic University Islamabad also held flag hoisting ceremony at Faisal Mosque to celebrate the Independence Day.

Diplomatic officials confirmed that the dead included seven citizens of Uzbekistan and one national from Tajikistan. The attack reflects Kyiv’s intensified campaign of long-range strikes targeting major fuel and energy hubs deep within Russia, which has created localized supply disruptions across several Russian regions. Local authorities in Tatarstan have declared an official period of mourning following the incident.

    Karachi is likely to experience cloudy and humid weather over the next 24 hours, with the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasting a chance of light drizzle in parts of the city tonight. According to the weather department, temperatures are expected to remain between 32°C and 34°C during the day. The city recorded a minimum temperature of  27.5°C over the past 24 hours. Sea breezes are blowing from the southwest at around 15 kilometres per hour, while the humidity level stands at approximately 75 per cent. The prevailing humid conditions may keep the weather uncomfortable despite the cloudy skies. Residents can expect generally overcast conditions, with the possibility of brief drizzle during the night.

    Two terrorists killed in Balochistan operation

    Security forces have killed two terrorists and wounded three others during an intelligence-based operation in Killi Zaik, Balochistan, according to security sources. The operation was launched after intelligence reports indicated the presence of suspected terrorists in the area. Security personnel moved in on the reported hideout and conducted a targeted operation. Two terrorists were killed during the operation, while three others sustained injuries. Security forces also recovered ammunition, hand grenades and materials believed to have been used for preparing improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Officials said security operations against militant groups in Balochistan are continuing as part of ongoing efforts to prevent terrorist attacks and dismantle militant networks operating in the province. The latest operation comes amid an increase in security activity across Balochistan. In recent days, security forces have conducted several intelligence-based operations in different districts of the province. On Sunday, seven terrorists were killed during an intelligence-based operation in the Lajay area of Kharan. The previous day, 10 terrorists were killed and several others were injured during an operation in the Shor Pard area of Khuzdar district. Earlier, 18 terrorists were reported killed in operations in Surab district. Eight of them were killed after an explosive device detonated prematurely, according to security officials. Security forces have also carried out operations in Panjgur, where five terrorists, including a key militant commander, were killed in the Sarkini and Chedgi areas. The intensified security operations come as Balochistan continues to face serious security challenges. The province has witnessed a rise in militant activity and casualties in recent months. A recent security assessment by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies showed a sharp deterioration in the security situation in Balochistan during July. According to the assessment, deaths linked to violence in the province increased from 109 in June to 372 in July. The number of security personnel killed also rose significantly, from six in June to 62 in July. The report further recorded an increase in militant deaths, with 238 terrorists reportedly killed in July compared with 75 in June. Civilian deaths also rose from 28 to 54 during the same period.

    ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary General Salman Akram Raja has acknowledged that the party is facing internal differences and grouping, saying that the lack of contact with party founder Imran Khan for the past nine months has made decision-making much more difficult. In a post on X, Salman Akram Raja said that, for the first time in the party’s history, there has been no contact with Imran Khan for nine months. He said that issues and disputes that were previously resolved within minutes through the party founder’s guidance now become the subject of long discussions. His remarks suggest that the absence of the jailed PTI founder has created a leadership gap, allowing disagreements within the party to become more visible. Raja also admitted that PTI had faced what he described as a “planned campaign” to weaken the party during this period. According to him, efforts were made from within the party to create problems, but senior leaders remained united and resisted those attempts. “I am grateful to Imran Khan’s senior colleagues who stood firm against these failed attempts,” he said. The PTI secretary general also claimed that another challenge comes from social media, where he said three different groups are active against the party’s interests. According to Raja, the first group consists of people who are formally linked to the media teams of PTI’s political opponents. The second group, he said, includes people within PTI who are seeking party positions and view certain leaders as obstacles to their ambitions. His statement is being seen as a rare public acknowledgment that internal rivalries and competition for positions exist within the party. Raja said the third group includes sincere PTI supporters who genuinely want Imran Khan’s release and the party’s success. He described them as passionate young people and older supporters who may not be fully aware of all developments. He argued that while emotional slogans are easy to raise, developing and following an effective political strategy requires patience, understanding and careful planning. Referring to calls for immediate action, Raja said that a political revolution cannot be achieved simply by gathering “one truck and 20,000 to 30,000 people.” He stressed that successful movements require well-thought-out strategies rather than emotional decisions. He added that every PTI worker wants Imran Khan to be released as soon as possible, but said the party must adopt practical and successful methods instead of relying on slogans alone. Raja’s comments come at a time when PTI has faced repeated speculation about internal divisions, disagreements over strategy and criticism exchanged on social media by supporters of different leaders. While he blamed external forces for trying to weaken the party, his remarks also indicate that internal competition, differences over leadership and disagreements about political strategy have become significant challenges for PTI during the prolonged absence of direct communication with its founder.
