Shagufta Ejaz on reason for becoming a YouTuber

Shagufta Ejaz has been a constant presence in Pakistani television since the PTV era, building a career that has spanned decades and generations of audiences. From her earliest roles in the golden age of state television to her continued prominence in contemporary drama, she has remained one of the industry’s most beloved and respected figures. In recent years, however, she has added an entirely new dimension to her public presence, stepping into the world of digital content creation and building a YouTube channel that has resonated with fans for its warmth, authenticity and the glimpses it offers of her family life.
Appearing as a guest on Star and Style, Shagufta Ejaz spoke about what prompted her to make that shift, and the answer was a family connection rather than a professional calculation.
The inspiration behind her YouTube journey was her son-in-law, Ali Hamza Baloch, who was already an established daily vlogger before she started her own channel. Shagufta explained that watching him work gave her a firsthand look at what the medium was capable of. She saw how deeply his audience connected with him, how his viewers followed his daily life and felt genuinely close to him through the screen, and something about that connection appealed to her. It was the kind of relationship with an audience that felt personal and immediate in a way that drama, for all its reach, does not always allow.
With his help, she launched her own channel, and the early days of the venture were a family effort in more ways than one. Her children stepped in to handle the editing at the beginning, helping her find her footing in a format that operates very differently from the structured, scripted world of television production. Over time, however, she took ownership of the process herself and now edits her own videos, a progression that reflects both her growing comfort with the medium and her characteristic commitment to doing things properly.
The content she produces has found a genuine audience. Fans have responded warmly to the homely, unpolished quality of her videos, which feature her family, her daily life and the kind of natural, unguarded moments that would never make it into a drama production. For an actress who has spent her career embodying carefully crafted characters, the channel offers something entirely different: just Shagufta Ejaz, being herself.
It is a quality that her audience clearly values, and one that speaks to why she has remained relevant across so many years and so many changes in the entertainment landscape. Whether she is performing a complex character on screen or talking to her camera at home, the authenticity that has always defined her work comes through in exactly the same way.

US Court blocks Trump plan to end immigrant work permits

BOSTON: A US federal judge has temporarily blocked the Trump administration from enforcing a policy that would have revoked work permits for thousands of immigrants and asylum seekers across the United States. The ruling allows affected individuals to continue working legally while the legal challenge against the policy proceeds in federal court. The decision was issued by US District Judge Nathaniel Gorton in Boston after immigrant rights organizations and labor unions filed a lawsuit challenging the administration’s immigration measures. The judge ruled that the policy should not take effect until the court fully reviews its legality. The disputed policy was introduced as part of the Trump administration’s broader immigration agenda following legislation passed by Congress in 2025. The law imposed new fees on asylum applications and introduced stricter rules governing employment authorization for people protected under Temporary Protected Status (TPS). If implemented, the new policy would have affected tens of thousands of immigrants who are legally living in the United States under humanitarian protections. Many of them were at risk of losing their legal right to work, making it difficult to support themselves and their families. Among those expected to be affected are TPS holders from El Salvador, Sudan, and Ukraine, many of whom have lived and worked in the United States for years. The policy was scheduled to come into effect this week before the federal court stepped in to halt its enforcement. The lawsuit argued that the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) acted unlawfully by implementing the new restrictions without following the proper legal process. The plaintiffs said the policy would cause severe financial hardship for thousands of families and disrupt businesses that rely on legally authorized immigrant workers. Judge Gorton’s order temporarily prevents federal authorities from cancelling work permits while the case remains under judicial review. The ruling does not permanently strike down the policy but ensures that existing work authorizations remain valid until the court reaches a final decision. The Trump administration has consistently pursued tougher immigration policies, including efforts to end Temporary Protected Status for people from several countries. Officials argue that TPS was intended as a temporary humanitarian measure and should not become a permanent immigration pathway. Earlier this year, the US Supreme Court allowed the administration to move forward with ending TPS protections for certain groups of Haitian and Syrian immigrants. However, the latest ruling prevents another major immigration measure from taking immediate effect. Immigrant advocacy groups welcomed the court’s decision, saying it protects vulnerable workers from losing their jobs and income while the legal dispute continues. They argued that the ruling provides temporary relief to thousands of families facing uncertainty over their future.

Chris Martin’s unreleased James Bond demo heads to auction

An unreleased demo recorded by Coldplay frontman Chris Martin during his early attempts to write a James Bond theme song is set to go under the hammer, offering fans a rare glimpse into one of the band’s long-running ambitions. The recording, believed to be around 27 years old, has never been officially released or publicly heard. According to auction details published by Wax Poetics, the cassette features Martin performing an acoustic version of The World Is Not Enough, a song reportedly written with the hope of becoming the theme for the 1999 James Bond film of the same name starring Pierce Brosnan. However, the demo was never submitted to the filmmakers and remained in private archives for more than two decades. The recording is being described as an unreleased, unheard cassette, making it a significant collector’s item for both Coldplay fans and James Bond memorabilia enthusiasts. As of publication, bidding for the rare demo had reached $1,000, with expectations that interest could increase before the auction closes. Martin has previously spoken about Coldplay’s repeated attempts to secure a Bond theme song. During an interview with NME in 2021, the singer revealed that the band had spent years trying to write music suitable for the iconic film franchise. “We kept trying to write one for 20 years, but never submitted them,” Martin said. Reflecting on those efforts, he added with characteristic humour, “We have Bond themes for about five movies, but they’re not very good, to be honest.” Martin also joked that Coldplay’s musical style may never have been the right fit for the world-famous spy. Speaking about James Bond’s personality, he said, “I don’t know if we’re spiritually on the same trip as James… He’d be like, ‘That’s not what I’m into at all, fellas. I like guns and sh*t.’” The Bond demo forms part of a much larger collection of early Coldplay recordings assembled by British producer Chris Allison, who worked with the band during their formative years on the The Blue Room EP before they achieved global fame. The archive includes several rare recordings, such as original DAT mixes, alternate versions of early tracks and a previously unheard version of We Never Change, providing a fascinating look at Coldplay’s musical development before the release of their debut album. Collectors believe the auction could attract strong interest because it combines two globally recognised names—Coldplay and the James Bond franchise. Unreleased recordings connected to either have historically generated considerable attention among music enthusiasts. Although Coldplay never recorded an official Bond theme, Martin’s comments over the years have shown that contributing to the franchise remained a long-standing dream for the band. The newly surfaced cassette offers fans a chance to hear one of those early attempts and provides a unique piece of Coldplay history that has remained hidden for nearly three decades.

Raja Pervaiz Ashraf urges PPP to boycott final AJK…

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Sunday said the party should consider rejecting the results of the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections and boycott the third phase of polling, alleging widespread irregularities and electoral misconduct. Speaking at a press conference alongside PPP leader Sherry Rehman and other party members in Islamabad, the former prime minister clarified that the proposal reflected his personal opinion, adding that the final decision would be made by the party’s central leadership. Ashraf alleged that the elections were neither free, fair nor transparent, warning that such results would fail to gain public acceptance. He said political workers were well aware of constituencies where the party had strong support and accused the authorities of manipulating outcomes in areas where the PPP expected to perform well. Expressing disappointment over the second phase of the AJK elections, he said the PPP had already submitted documented evidence of irregularities during the first phase. He referred to one constituency where polling could not be held because election materials allegedly failed to reach polling stations. Ashraf questioned the explanation, saying election materials are normally delivered a day before polling and not on election day. He argued that such failures reflected serious administrative shortcomings. The PPP leader also alleged that party workers were assaulted and forcibly removed from polling stations during voting. He said the PPP had formed a joint committee with its coalition partner, the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), after the first phase in the hope that the Election Commission would ensure greater vigilance during the second phase. However, he claimed that similar incidents were repeated despite those efforts. While acknowledging that the PML-N remains a coalition ally, Ashraf questioned the party’s role in the alleged irregularities. He asked whether such conduct was consistent with democratic values and said transparent elections were the Election Commission’s foremost constitutional responsibility. He further alleged that the Chief Election Commissioner had failed to take action on any major complaint and accused the Election Commission of acting under the influence of a political party. According to Ashraf, the overall conduct of the elections suggested that the process had been pre-planned. The former prime minister also alleged that current AJK Speaker and Acting President Chaudhry Latif Akbar was physically attacked by PML-N supporters. He claimed that Akbar was abused, assaulted and punched during the incident, criticising attempts to describe the episode as a mere verbal altercation. Ashraf further claimed that a long-time PPP worker was killed in the Khawra constituency and questioned the credibility of an electoral process in which, he alleged, violence had overshadowed voting. He also referred to the Kotli constituency, where polling reportedly could not be completed because election materials did not reach polling stations, saying it was the Election Commission’s responsibility to ensure timely delivery. He added that voting was also suspended at several polling stations in the constituency of Bazil Naqvi.

Trump hosts Netanyahu, Zelensky for high level tal…

WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump is set to meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House on Tuesday, as the wars involving Iran and Ukraine enter what officials describe as a decisive and highly sensitive phase. The two leaders are in Washington to attend a memorial service for Senator Lindsey Graham, a prominent Republican ally of Trump and a strong advocate of military support for Ukraine. However, the diplomatic spotlight has shifted to their separate meetings with the US president, which are expected to focus on two of the world’s most volatile conflicts. Trump’s relationship with Zelensky has improved significantly in recent months as Ukrainian forces have slowed Russian advances and intensified strikes on Russian energy infrastructure. Ahead of his meeting, Zelensky said strengthening anti-ballistic missile defence and expanding strategic cooperation with the United States were his top priorities, stressing that efforts to bring peace closer must continue. Despite renewed diplomatic contacts, there is little indication that either the Ukraine war or the widening confrontation involving Iran is nearing an end. Following the collapse of a ceasefire linked to the Iran conflict, Trump has said he paused US airstrikes to allow diplomacy another opportunity, while continuing consultations with regional allies. Netanyahu arrives in Washington amid signs of growing frustration within theWhite House over the lack of progress toward a broader settlement related to Iran. Tensions between Trump and the Israeli leader have become more visible in recent weeks, including reports of a heated phone conversation in June that was later publicly acknowledged by Trump. According to sources familiar with the discussions, Netanyahu is also seeking to reinforce his political standing ahead of Israel’s October 27 election. A public display of close coordination with Trump could help him domestically, where he has faced pressure in opinion polls. Before departing for Washington, Netanyahu said the talks would focus primarily on Iran, while also addressing regional security and efforts to expand peace agreements with Arab states. A White House official said Trump plans to discuss the Iran conflict, tensions between Israel and Lebanon, and the future of the Abraham Accords. The administration is reportedly continuing efforts to encourage Saudi Arabia to join the accords, although Riyadh has maintained that any normalisation with Israel would require a credible pathway toward Palestinian statehood. Trump struck a notably warmer tone when speaking to reporters aboard Air Force One, describing Netanyahu as a strong wartime leader and saying the two had worked well together.Zelensky is expected to hold a brief private meeting with Trump, likely without media present. Ukrainian officials say securing additional Patriot missile interceptors is their most urgent request, as Russian missile and drone attacks continue almost daily. The Ukrainian president is also expected to push for expanded air-defence cooperation, progress on a drone agreement with the United States, and discussions on Trump’s proposal to allow Ukraine to produce Patriot interceptors under licence. White House officials said the meeting with Zelensky would focus on the ongoing peace process between Russia and Ukraine and reiterated that the administration believes the time has come to seek an end to the war. After the White House talks, Zelensky is expected to visit Capitol Hill for meetings with all 100 US senators, underscoring the continuing bipartisan interest in Ukraine’s defence despite growing debate over the pace and delivery of American military assistance.

Messi returns as Inter Miami held to draw

Lionel Messi made his long-awaited return for Inter Miami on Saturday after an extended break following the FIFA World Cup, helping his side earn a 2-2 draw against Columbus Crew in Major League Soccer (MLS). The Argentine captain featured for the first time since the World Cup final, coming off the bench in the second half. Although he created several dangerous moments and came close to scoring, he was unable to find the net in his comeback appearance. The match was delayed by 40 minutes due to bad weather before Inter Miami made a bright start. Veteran striker Luis Suarez opened the scoring in the 16th minute, continuing his impressive run of form with his seventh goal in four matches. Columbus Crew restored parity in the 34th minute after an own goal by Casemiro. However, Inter Miami regained the lead before halftime when Suarez provided a precise assist for Noah Allen, who headed the ball into the net. The visitors refused to give up and found the equaliser late in the match. Midfielder Brais Mendez, making his debut for Columbus Crew after joining from Spanish club Real Sociedad, curled home a free kick in the 84th minute to secure a share of the points. The draw brought an end to Inter Miami’s six-match winning streak, though the club remained second in the MLS Eastern Conference standings. In another MLS fixture, Polish striker Robert Lewandowski delivered a memorable performance in his first home appearance for Chicago Fire. The veteran forward scored twice to inspire his team to a 2-1 victory over Charlotte FC. Lewandowski netted his first goal for Chicago to cancel out Charlotte’s early lead before scoring again moments later. He completed his brace in the second half, helping Chicago register its first league win since the World Cup break. Messi’s return and Lewandowski’s impressive display added fresh excitement to the MLS season as several international stars resumed club action following the conclusion of the World Cup.
