Shan Masood, Imam-ul-Haq steady Pakistan against West Indies

TAROUBA: Pakistan produced a strong response against the West Indies on the second day of the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

The visitors reached 199 for three at stumps. They still trail the West Indies by 112 runs after the hosts were bowled out for 311.

Shan Masood led the recovery with an unbeaten 88. He faced 137 deliveries and struck 11 boundaries.

Imam-ul-Haq also played an important innings. He scored 63 from 102 balls and shared a 155-run partnership with Shan.

Pakistan suffered an early setback when debutant Azan Awais was dismissed for a duck. Kemar Roach bowled him in the second over.

Shan and Imam then took control of the innings. They attacked the West Indies bowlers and kept the scoreboard moving.

Shan reached his half-century from only 46 balls. Imam also completed his fifty during the partnership.

Imam eventually fell after making 63. Shamar Joseph took his wicket, ending the strong second-wicket stand.

Captain Babar Azam then joined Shan at the crease. He scored 23 before edging Jayden Seales to wicketkeeper Shai Hope.

Salman Ali Agha was unbeaten on nought when bad light stopped play. Pakistan finished the day with seven wickets still in hand.

Earlier, Pakistan’s fast bowlers completed a strong effort to dismiss the West Indies for 311.

Mohammad Ali was the leading wicket-taker. He finished with four wickets for 50 runs.

Mohammad Abbas also impressed with three wickets. Khurram Shahzad claimed two wickets.

Shai Hope was the West Indies’ top scorer. He made 92 runs, falling just eight runs short of a century.

Kavem Hodge contributed 84 before being dismissed early in the morning session.

Hodge had resumed the day on 83. He added only one run before edging Khurram Shahzad to second slip, where Salman Ali Agha completed the catch.

Hope continued to resist after Hodge’s departure. He formed useful partnerships with Justin Greaves, Roston Chase and Shamar Joseph.

Pakistan eventually broke through the lower order. Mohammad Ali dismissed Greaves and later removed Hope.

Shamar Joseph made a quick 23. His innings included four boundaries and a six.

Ali then bowled Jayden Seales to complete the West Indies innings at 311.

Pakistan now have a strong opportunity to reduce the deficit and potentially take a first-innings lead. Shan Masood remains at the crease and will resume on 88 when play begins on the third day.

The permission was reportedly discussed during the recent visit of Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf to Iraq. Oil flows through the waterway have fallen sharply from pre-war levels. US officials said an average of around 8 million barrels of oil a day was moving through the strait, compared with more than 20 million barrels before the conflict. The disruption has contributed to higher oil prices and raised concerns about wider effects on the global economy.     JI Secretary General Ameerul Azeem passes away

    Ameer-ul-Azeem, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan, has passed away after a prolonged illness. His funeral prayers will be offered at 5:00 pm today at Mansoora, Lahore. A Jamaat-e-Islami spokesperson confirmed his death, saying he had been battling cancer for a long time. Before becoming the party’s Secretary General, he served for many years as the central Secretary for Information. Born in Lahore in 1958, Ameer-ul-Azeem completed his matriculation from Islamia School Sant Nagar and his intermediate studies at Islamia College Railway Road. He later earned a BSc in Physics and Double Mathematics from Islamia College Civil Lines and an MBA from the University of the Punjab. He became associated with Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) during his school years and later served as the elected president of the Punjab University Students’ Union. He also held the position of Nazim-e-Aala (Chief Organizer) of IJT. During General Zia-ul-Haq’s rule, Ameer-ul-Azeem led a long march demanding the restoration of student unions and was imprisoned for his role in the movement. While in jail, he was elected as the head of Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba. He later served as Jamaat-e-Islami’s central Secretary for Information, Secretary General of the party’s Lahore chapter, and Ameer of Lahore. In 2019, he was appointed Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan by then party chief Siraj-ul-Haq following consultation with the party’s Central Shura.

Their bilateral trade is estimated at around $43 billion. Saudi Arabia also remains an important supplier of crude oil to India. It reportedly meets around 14% of India’s crude oil requirements. Pakistan and Saudi Arabia also have a long history of defence cooperation. Pakistan has provided military training to Saudi forces. Pakistani military personnel have also been deployed in Saudi Arabia at different times. The Indian analysis claimed that Pakistan sent around 8,000 military personnel and 16 JF-17 fighter jets to Saudi Arabia during 2026. It also referred to reports about possible Pakistani drone support and Chinese-made air defence systems. These developments were reportedly linked to Saudi Arabia’s security concerns and attacks involving drones. The relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye has also expanded significantly in recent years. The two countries have increased cooperation in defence technology and military production. Pakistan has acquired Turkish-made warships and other defence equipment. Türkiye has also supported the modernisation of Pakistan’s naval capabilities. The two countries are also cooperating in the field of unmanned aerial systems. Pakistan has acquired Turkish Bayraktar Akıncı drones. Both sides have discussed and worked on expanding cooperation in drone technology. Türkiye’s KAAN stealth fighter has also attracted interest from Pakistan. However, no final purchase agreement for the aircraft has been confirmed.
