Pakistan clinch Hockey5s silver, qualify for World Cup

MUSCAT: Pakistan secured the silver medal at the Men’s Asian Hockey5s Championship 2026 and booked a place in the FIH Hockey5s World Cup.

The national team finished runners-up after losing 3-1 to arch-rivals India in the final in Muscat, Oman.

Despite missing out on the title, Pakistan’s overall campaign was a major success. The team produced several strong performances during the tournament and reached the final after competing against some of Asia’s top sides.

The silver medal was enough to secure Pakistan’s qualification for the 2026 Hockey5s World Cup. The achievement gives the national side another opportunity to compete on the global stage.

Pakistan’s campaign was also highlighted by an individual award for forward Adeel. He was named the Player of the Tournament for his impressive performances.

Adeel played an important role in Pakistan’s run to the final. His attacking contributions and consistent performances made him one of the standout players of the competition.

The final, however, belonged to India. The arch-rivals scored three goals while Pakistan managed only one.

Pakistan fought to stay in the contest but could not overturn the deficit. India eventually secured the championship title with a 3-1 victory.

The result did not overshadow Pakistan’s successful tournament campaign. Reaching the final and qualifying for the World Cup are important milestones for a team seeking to rebuild its position in international hockey.

The Pakistan Hockey Federation praised the players and coaching staff for their efforts throughout the championship.

PHF President Mohyuddin Ahmad Wani congratulated the national squad on winning the silver medal and securing World Cup qualification.

He also praised Adeel for earning the tournament’s top individual award.

The federation said the achievement reflected the hard work of the players, coaches, management and support staff.

Pakistan’s progress in Hockey5s is being viewed as a positive development for the country’s hockey programme. The shorter format requires speed, quick decision-making and strong attacking play.

The team will now shift its focus towards the FIH Hockey5s World Cup.

The qualification provides Pakistan with an opportunity to test itself against the best teams from around the world.

From public disputes and legal issues to discussions about his marriage, the social media personality frequently finds himself in the spotlight. While he has a large following, his outspoken personality and extravagant lifestyle have also made him a polarizing figure, with some fans strongly supporting him while others criticize his approach. In a recent interview with 24 Digital, Rajab Butt opened up about his latest controversies, public disagreements and the reasons behind his highly visible lifestyle. During the conversation, the YouTuber addressed a topic that has repeatedly sparked discussion online: his habit of openly displaying his wealth. Rajab Butt has often shared glimpses of his expensive purchases, luxurious lifestyle and business activities with his audience. He has also previously claimed that he has achieved billionaire status through his YouTube career and various business ventures. His claims and lifestyle have generated considerable discussion among social media users, with many questioning why he chooses to make so much of his financial success public. Explaining his perspective, Rajab Butt said that showing his wealth is closely connected to the nature of his work as a content creator. According to him, if he purchases something expensive, it naturally becomes part of the content he creates for his audience. He gave the example of buying a car worth Rs 5 crore, saying that if he spends such a huge amount on a vehicle, he would make a vlog about it rather than keeping the purchase completely private. For him, such moments are not simply personal experiences but also opportunities to create content and keep his viewers interested. Rajab further pointed out that content creators have increasingly turned everyday occasions into material for their videos. He noted that YouTubers can create content even from events such as birthday celebrations, suggesting that almost every aspect of a creator’s lifestyle can become part of their online presence. He explained that he follows the same approach. Since his career depends on producing engaging videos, he believes he has to make his content interesting enough to hold the audience’s attention. Sharing expensive purchases, cars and other aspects of his lifestyle is therefore part of the entertainment value he offers to his viewers. His comments provide an insight into how Rajab Butt views the relationship between his personal life and his career. Rather than treating his wealth as something that should always remain private, he considers it a source of content that can help attract viewers and generate interest. For Rajab Butt, displaying his wealth is ultimately connected to the demands of being a modern YouTuber. As social media continues to blur the line between private life and entertainment, he appears comfortable turning major personal milestones, purchases and lifestyle choices into content for his audience.

Pakistan keeps petrol and diesel prices unchanged …

The Government of Pakistan has decided to keep petrol and diesel prices unchanged for the next two days after implementing fuel price increases over five consecutive days. The Petroleum Division of the Ministry of Energy issued an official notification confirming that current prices will remain in effect on July 26 and 27, 2026. According to the notification, the price of petrol will remain at Rs. 335.18 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) will continue to be sold at Rs. 383.46 per litre during the two-day period. The decision comes after a series of recent adjustments to petroleum prices under the government’s revised pricing mechanism. Authorities said no further changes would be made during the specified period, providing temporary stability for consumers following multiple increases. The latest notification confirms that the existing fuel rates announced on July 25 will remain effective through July 27. Officials from the Petroleum Division stated that the move is in line with the government’s current fuel pricing policy. Just a day earlier, the government had raised petrol prices by Rs. 3.66 per litre and high-speed diesel prices by Rs. 4.80 per litre. Those increases followed another hike in which petrol became Rs. 4.40 per litre more expensive and diesel increased by Rs. 3.62 per litre. Before the latest revisions, petrol was priced at Rs. 331.52 per litre, while high-speed diesel was available at Rs. 378.66 per litre on July 24. The recent adjustments reflect ongoing fluctuations in petroleum pricing driven by changes in international oil markets and domestic pricing policies. Fuel prices play a significant role in Pakistan’s economy, influencing transportation costs, industrial production, and the prices of essential goods and services. Any increase or decrease in petroleum prices has a direct impact on businesses and household budgets across the country. The government’s decision to maintain current prices for two days is expected to provide short-term certainty for consumers and businesses. However, future revisions will continue to depend on global oil prices, exchange rate movements, and the government’s fuel pricing framework. Motorists and businesses are advised to follow official announcements from the Petroleum Division for any future changes in fuel prices. The current notification confirms that petrol and diesel rates will remain unchanged until the end of July 27, unless a new directive is issued by the government.

Ukraine submits peace proposals to US as Zelenskiy warns of autumn Russian draft

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy announced that Kyiv has delivered fresh peace proposals to American negotiators aimed at ending the conflict with Moscow. He simultaneously warned that Russia intends to use its upcoming parliamentary elections to launch a new, large-scale military mobilisation. Speaking in his nightly address, Zelenskiy stated that the proposals handed to the United States focus on bolstering Ukraine’s defence capabilities, particularly air defence, while urging Washington to exert diplomatic and economic pressure on the Kremlin to halt the war. The movement in negotiations comes as U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner prepare for potential visits to both capitals, following a period where diplomatic efforts had largely stalled. Kyiv continues to press for an immediate ceasefire after nearly four and a half years of fighting, whereas Moscow insists any agreement require Ukraine to permanently cede four claimed regions. Zelenskiy also cited Ukrainian intelligence reports indicating that Russian President Vladimir Putin plans to exploit September’s parliamentary polls to orchestrate a rapid autumn draft. “They are preparing for mobilisation in the autumn, immediately after the imitation of parliamentary elections,” Zelenskiy said, estimating that Moscow aims to draft several hundred thousand additional personnel by the end of the year, alongside ongoing voluntary contract recruitment. The electoral warning follows a decision by Russia’s Supreme Court on Monday to bar the liberal Yabloko party, the country’s sole registered anti-war political group, from contesting the upcoming election. Kremlin officials have denied plans for a mandatory draft, pointing to 200,000 voluntary sign-ups recorded in the first half of the year.

Gulf conflict pushes oil above $100

Global oil prices continued their sharp upward trend on Friday as escalating conflict in the Gulf region raised fresh concerns about energy supplies and the outlook for the world economy. The sustained rise in crude prices has increased fears of renewed inflation, unsettled financial markets and strengthened expectations that central banks may keep interest rates higher for a longer period. Brent crude was trading at around $100 per barrel after briefly crossing $102, its highest level in nearly two months. Oil prices have climbed by almost 40% during the month, driven by growing concerns that the conflict could disrupt major shipping routes used for transporting crude oil. The latest increase comes as military tensions involving the United States, Iran and the Iran-backed Houthi movement continue to intensify. Attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea have heightened concerns about the safety of one of the world’s busiest maritime trade routes. At the same time, uncertainty surrounding shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has added to worries over global oil supplies. Analysts say the combination of risks to both the Red Sea and the Strait of Hormuz has significantly increased market uncertainty. Any prolonged disruption in these waterways could reduce oil exports from the Middle East and place additional pressure on global energy markets. The rise in crude prices has also revived concerns about inflation. Higher oil prices generally increase transportation, manufacturing and production costs, which can eventually lead to higher prices for goods and services. Economists warn that this could slow progress in reducing inflation across many countries. Global financial markets reacted cautiously to the latest developments. Major Asian stock markets recorded notable losses as investors worried about the combined impact of geopolitical tensions, rising energy costs and uncertainty over future economic growth. Investors increasingly shifted towards safer assets amid concerns that market volatility could continue. The outlook for monetary policy has also changed. Financial markets now expect that major central banks, including the US Federal Reserve, could delay planned interest rate cuts or even consider further rate increases if higher energy prices continue to fuel inflation.
