Sri Racha Officials Inspect Watermelon Farm After Villagers Complain of Foul Odors from Pesticide Spraying
SRI RACHA, CHONBURI — On August 13th, 2026, local agricultural and public health officials inspected a large watermelon plantation in the Bo Win subdistrict following complaints from nearby residents about persistent foul smells from pesticide spraying.
The team, led by Mr. Arthit Thongphim, Sri Racha District Agricultural Officer, included Petty Officer First Class Yutthana Mora, Director of the Public Health and Environment Division of Bo Win Subdistrict Administrative Organization (SAO); Mr. Apichat Nunchuai, village headman of Moo 3, Bo Win; Mr. Sane Kratayphet, vice chairman of the Bo Win SAO Council; and aides to the Member of Parliament for Chonburi Constituency 6 from the People’s Party.
They examined the more than 120-rai watermelon field located behind Ta Jui weir in Moo 3. The inspection followed complaints from residents of Prabhasorn Village 8, where more than 300 of the approximately 1,500 households reported regular disturbances from the strong odors released during pesticide applications. The grievances were lodged through Mr. Narinthorn Thanasabhakdi, president of Prabhasorn Village 8.
Officials checked the fertilizers and pesticides used on the farm to determine whether they posed any health risks to the surrounding community. The inspection concluded that the substances are not hazardous to public health and that the primary issue is the unpleasant smell.
Mr. Charoon Lopyam, 58, the farmer who rents the 120-rai plot to grow watermelons, stated that he would immediately stop planting in any areas affecting residents to avoid causing further inconvenience. He expressed hope that the officials and community members who visited the site would feel reassured by the findings.
The authorities’ visit was to address residents’ concerns and ensure farming practices do not unduly disrupt nearby neighborhoods.
